where am i a good dinosaur is about
harlow and spot on this incredible
journey out in the wilderness
we need to get home and in order to
bring reality to that world and the
frontier we needed to go on our own
journey first
we knew it was going to be set in the
west so the art department and story
team did a research trip to that area it
was awe-inspiring how huge those
landscapes were and so what a perfect
place to make a dinosaur feel tiny
where's home we wanted to have the
feeling of being lost like our own spot
so we went on a horseback ride up into
the grand tetons
at one point arlo falls into the river
so we went on a river rafting trip to
feel what it would be like to go down a
rapid
let's go
and then we went to a cattle ranch to do
some herding
because we were in big sky country you
feel like you can see forever we needed
to think about how we were going to do
clouds
in the past the matte paint department
used to paint clouds by hand they would
look beautiful but we couldn't make them
move very easily a big part of the
dinosaur was to figure out a way to make
sure that our clouds could move
we wanted to give nature a feeling that
it's breathing that it's alive
so we had the idea let's try to do all
3d volumetric clouds

we built a completely new tool set the
clouds exist in 3d space and so they
feel a lot more real they move when the
wind picks up and when the storms pick
up they'll
evolve
the environments are incredibly
immersive and beautiful because they
were made by people that poured their
heart and soul into it

this is one of the most visually
stunning films that pixar has done and
the skies are just a beautiful part of
it

a good dinosaur is about arlo he finds
himself
lost out in the wilderness and he has to
find his way back home again he meets an
amazing friend along the way what is his
name i don't know i name him i keep him
kill her stinky
when he finds arlo he kind of attaches
himself to him and they set off on a
journey of a lifetime
it's a really simple coming-of-age story
that break away from the parents for the
first time
before you take that first step but on a
much larger scale it's about this
journey that they're on this quest to
get back home and what they learn along
the way
about friendship and things that are
really important in life
i'm done being scared if you ain't

uh what if the asteroid that destroyed
the dinosaurs
missed
in the animal kingdom one of the keys to
survival is to outwit your enemy
but there's not a single species on
earth that could have outsmarted a mount
everest sized asteroid hurtling towards
earth at 30 kilometers per second
but what if the chick syllab meteor had
missed would the dinosaurs still be
alive today
what if these gargantuan creatures were
actually still around
our mammal ancestors that were running
underfoot
avoiding becoming hors d'oeuvres by
t-rex
probably would have stayed just that way
had they gotten much bigger you become a
much bigger meal
for the carnivorous dinosaurs that were
ruling the earth
so what you really had to do was remove
the dinosaurs from the ecosystem
that pries open an ecological niche
enabling
our mammal ancestors to aspire to become
something more than just the rodents
that they were
of the day but imagine though
if the dinosaurs were localized to one
land mass
and we had our mammal ancestors on
another land mass it's possible you
could have dinosaurs continuing and then
mammals evolving to become humans
and then one day
they sail across the oceans
and meet one another
and the dinosaurs eat us
that's probably exactly how that would
play out
we'll probably never have to worry about
roaming herds of theropods disrupting
our rush hour commutes but this sure is
fun to think about
for the universe
