Oh, hey there. I totally just woke up.
[Music]
Just kidding. He's still wearing
pants. Just what I paid for. You got to
make this painful
magic.
[Music]
Hello, this is Taylor. If you are new
here, I am a 24-year-old management
consultant and part-time YouTuber living
and working in the Big Apple. Today, I
am making a very conscious effort to
have a more active day than I have had
recently. I know everyone goes through
these days, but I've just been in a
little bit of a funk. the weather hasn't
been great here and I've just been kind
of lying in bed with not a ton of
motivation to do much. It's been very
interesting navigating this postgrad
part of life in that when I was in
college all of my friends lived so close
to me. You know, we all lived on the
same block basically. So, you don't
really have to put in a ton of effort to
see them on a day-to-day basis versus
here in New York. It's a huge city and
even though I have lots of friends
living here, you still have to put in a
lot more of an effort, at least in my
experience. So, that's what I'm doing
today. I'm excited. and I have plans
with a couple of my good friends. And
even though it's a gloomy day right now,
it's actually supposed to be a perfect
day. It's going to clear up in the next
hour or so based on my weather app. So,
I'm going to respond to some emails in
the meantime and I will see you guys
when I hit the town.
[Music]
I've been falling off the saddle. Yummy.
in a hard
place. Is your heart in the right place?
All right, this is off topic, but I got
a notification from YouTube that someone
is straight up posting my videos. Like,
not a little portion of them, not a
reaction. They're just posting my full
length videos. It's like, what are you
doing? Don't do that. So, I reported it
obviously. I'll keep you guys updated.
[Music]
Oh, another update. I just got a little
invitation. I'm graduating. For those
who don't know, I was part of the class
of 2020. I did my undergrad at UPEN
Wharton Business School. And yeah, cuz
of CO, we never officially graduated in
person at least. And we're doing it in 2
weeks. Graduation vlog to come. I think
it'll be fun. At first, I was like, 2
years later, like I don't know, it's
just kind of weird. But now enough time
has passed where it will be a really fun
reunion. So, I'm actually very excited
for it. And I just ordered a dress on
Poshmark for my graduation. All right,
back to emails. Stop distracting me.
[Music]
Talk about vlogging in public. I'm
literally using a like a selfie stick
type thing. Anyway, I don't care. Out
and
about. Going to meet a friend
for lunch down in West Village. And I'm
going to walk. It's a bit of a walk for
me, but when the weather is perfect and
I can take the high line, I do. So,
we're walking Hudson Yards first. Going
to grab a coffee. Anyway, I'll just show
[Music]
you. Probably look like a tourist in Man
[Music]
City. Should have worn a
hat. Guilty puncher.
[Music]
And would this be a Taylor Bell New York
City vlog if I didn't talk about some
real estate development that I see
around me? This incredibly unique
building at 520 West 28th was designed
by the famous late architect Zaha Hadid.
It's a collection of 39 condos ranging
from 3.8 to $14 million a pop based on
what I read online. I didn't buy one.
And whether you think this building
looks out of place or not, I personally
marvel at it every time I walk past it.
Zaha Hadid's work is largely defined by
curves that are inspired by nature, and
these condos are clearly no exception.
Part of why I love walking on the
Highline so much is because there is
such a cool mixture of old brick
apartments and multi-million dollar
futuristic developments like this one
that line the whole entire walkway. Now,
whether I'd want to live right on the
Highline at the ground level where
people would be staring into my windows
all day is a different story. But at the
very least, I think it's all very fun
and neat to look at, which is why the
Highline is one of the top sites that I
recommend to people who are visiting New
York City for the first
time. And for this shot, a guy noticed
that I'd set up my camera, so he stopped
walking to not get in the shot. Oh, it's
fine. Thank you, though. Big coffee.
[Music]
Just got off the
Highline. It's
[Music]
bright. One of my favorite places in New
York. Walking through West
Village in the spring with the birch
turpin. Just got lunch with my friend
Laur. We went to college together. Oh,
hi. Didn't see you. Remember to like and
subscribe and press the notification
button down below. Down below. Down
below. She said it best. Do it. Do it.
All right. Just finished
lunch. Oh, so nice. Fun fact, I used to
live right around here during one of my
internship trips. Definitely different
than where I live right now. It's a lot
more quaint, more of a village. I mean,
we're in West Village, so it's a
villagey feel, but I don't know. Might
move back. All
right, I forget to film the stuff that I
do, but I just spent a while in B&H
Photo, which is like a huge photo store.
Photo, lighting, audio, etc. Anyway, got
some goodies. It's expensive, but
hopefully over time I'll get my videos
to be better. So, yeah.
[Music]
Woo! You've been pepper sprayed.
I just did a lot of walking. I'm going
to show you guys what I got. Some of you
guys might know that I still film my
videos on my phone. And if you have an
iPhone, like they film in 4K. There's no
excuse. Like some people say, "Oh, I
need these all this fancy equipment to
start a YouTube channel." No, you don't.
I will say audio is more important than
visual. I mean, of course, visual is
important, but studies show that
consumers care a lot more about having
crisp audio versus crisp video. I mean,
you know, probably good to have both.
But anyway, that is a nice little segue
into what I got. I got things for crisp
audio. So, I actually have a really
solid microphone that I use for my
sitdown videos. It's the Blue Yeti. It's
the one that a lot of people use for
podcasts and such, but since I moved to
New York and moved into this apartment
and it has 11t ceilings. That's the
final answer, by the way. I think in
some videos, even my apartment video, I
said that it's 12t ceilings. It's
actually 11. Nonetheless, very tall
ceilings and I don't have a ton of
furniture in here. I don't have a rug,
no curtains, so the sound absorption is
not very good. It's kind of echoey. You
can probably hear it right now. And it's
fine, but it's not up to my standards. I
started my YouTube channel from home at
my parents house in Los Angeles, and I
film in my parents' bedroom. It's
carpeted, couch, blankets, all that good
stuff. The acoustics in that room are
just insanely good. So, even though this
might not sound terrible to you, it's
just not up to what I'm used to.
Long-winded way of saying I got some
things to up my audio game. So, these
are not cheap, but they're the road
wireless
goto 2. Yeah, not sponsored. And I
bought the separate lavalier. Lava, is
that how you pronounce it? Lavalier.
See, I don't know much about this stuff,
but this is a little mic that clips onto
your shirt. And then the receiver, it
will clip directly into my phone because
I got the iPhone adapter. So, anyway,
hopefully with the little microphone
here, it will be more crisp than my
iPhone's microphone. Plus, it will give
me the freedom to walk around and, you
know, I can be all the way over there,
not facing the camera, and it will still
hopefully sound really crisp. So, let's
open these
up.
Wow, look at that. The lavalier. Is it
lavalier or lavalier? Tomato tomato.
Wow, it's so tiny and cute. Smells good.
And the
adapter. All right, guys. I'm still
using the mini mic. How does it sound?
It's also great because I don't have to
yell. Not that I had to yell before, but
for some reason without the mini mic, I
feel like I had to. Anyway, now I'm
going to go meet up with my other friend
Catherine for a nice little sunset walk
along the Westside Highway.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Gorgeous. Oh my goodness. Okay, I'm
going to go downstairs early to get a
closer look at that sunset before I go
on my walk.
[Music]
Nice little bike ride home to finish off
the
[Music]
day. Hello, guys. I just got back. I got
back a little bit ago, actually.
[Music]
I was craving ramen. I don't always eat
in bed, but when I do, I make sure to
get something very precarious. Keeps
things interesting. I also got this
brown sugar milk tea. I don't even want
to know how many calories is in this. It
is so good. M yum. But I have walked
25,000 steps today, which is a lot. And
it feels great. Like my feet are a
little sore, but yeah. I don't need to
go over the whole path of today again,
but just got back from such a lovely
walk with my friend Catherine. We did
the Westside Highway, but we didn't go
in a straight line. We like went on any
little pier or any outshoot that there
was. We followed the perimeter. So, a
lot of walking and just really, really
nice conversation. Got back here, saw
that I walked 25,000 steps, pat myself
on the back a little bit, ordered dinner
from GrubHub. Thank you again, GrubHub,
for sponsoring this video. And now here
we are. This was a nice change of pace
from the few days that I had where I
just didn't feel any motivation. It
happens sometimes. The weather plays, at
least for me and lots of people, the
weather plays such a big part. When it's
gloomy and rainy outside, just the
California person in me, which is almost
100% of me, I don't love it. And then
the second that the weather was perfect,
I walked 25,000 steps. That's how I know
I will eventually settle down somewhere
warm. And also very excited about the
new mini mic addition to my arsenal. It
represents a new investment for the
YouTube channel, or it doesn't represent
it. That's exactly what it is. But I'm
starting to slowly upgrade each piece of
equipment little by little. I have some
new lighting, some soft boxes coming on
Friday, and then eventually a camera.
But the iPhone does a damn good job if I
may say so. So, we'll see how long I sit
on that one. Thanks for joining me
today, guys. Go outside, take a walk if
the weather's nice, and I'm going to be
doing a lot more of it now that spring
has sprung in the city. Like and
subscribe if you made it this far, and I
will see you very soon in the next one.
Turtle out.
[Music]
I can't think of something more
unnecessary than that.
