episode welcome Bob hi Lisa thank you
for having me I'm really excited about
today's topic because I know a lot of
Learners struggle with speaking English
when they don't have a partner to
practice with but the good news is you
don't need a
partner there are many creative ways to
practice alone that's right so if you're
ready to take your English speaking
skills to the next level stay with us
until the end let's get
[Music]
started all right Bob let's jump right
into it what is the first way people can
practice speaking English alone the
first way is thinking in English
this is one of the easiest ways to
practice and you can do it anywhere for
example when you wake up in the morning
try to describe your day in
English instead of saying I need to
brush my teeth in your native language
say it in English that's a great tip I
do this when I'm cooking I say things
like now I'm cutting the vegetables next
I will fry them it really helps me to
stay in the English mindset
exactly the more you think in English
the easier it becomes to speak
fluently all right let's move on to the
second way talking to yourself ah I love
this one some people might think it's
weird to talk to yourself but it
actually
works yes you can stand in front of a
mirror and have a conversation with
yourself pretend you're introducing
yourself to someone new say things like
hi my name is Bob I love teaching
English what about you and then answer
your own question that sounds fun and if
you make mistakes no one will hear you
so you don't have to feel shy
exactly it's a safe way to build
confidence now let's talk about the
Third Way reading out loud oh this one
is so helpful when you read a book an
article or even a social media post post
read it out loud instead of in your head
it helps with pronunciation and fluency
yes and you can even try to act like a
Storyteller add some emotions and
expressions while reading for example if
the sentence says the little boy was
very happy don't just read it flatly say
it with
excitement that's a great tip all right
what's the fourth way the fourth way is
shadowing
this means listening to a native speaker
and repeating what they say as quickly
as
possible oh I've tried this with
podcasts and movies I pause after each
sentence and try to copy the speaker's
pronunciation and Rhythm yes it's a
great way to improve pronunciation and
intonation if you do this every day you
will sound more natural when you speak
English that's amazing and finally
what's the last way the last way is
recording yourself many people feel
nervous when speaking but if you record
yourself and listen to it you can hear
your mistakes and improve that's a great
idea sometimes we don't realize how we
sound until we listen to
ourselves exactly and over time you'll
notice your progress so don't be afraid
to try
it these are fantastic tips Bob but I
have a question
what if someone doesn't feel motivated
to practice alone how can they stay
consistent that's a great question Lisa
motivation is key one way to stay
motivated is to set small achievable
goals for example decide to practice
speaking for just 5 minutes a day once
it becomes a habit you can increase the
time that makes sense if the goal is too
big people might feel overwhelmed and
give up exactly another trick is to
reward
yourself if you practice speaking every
day for a week treat yourself to
something you enjoy maybe a nice coffee
or watching your favorite show in
English I love that idea and what about
using technology are there any apps or
tools that can help
absolutely there are many apps like Elsa
speak speechling and even Google
translates voice feature you can speak
into these apps and they will give you
feedback on
pronunciation that's so useful and
another idea is to keep a speaking
journal every day you can record a short
voice note about your day your thoughts
or even a new word you
learned yes that's an excellent idea and
over time you'll have a record of your
progress which can be really motiv ating
wow these extra tips are so helpful
thank you Bob for sharing so much
valuable
[Music]
advice now it's time for a fun fact did
you know that even native English
speakers talk to
themselves really yes studies show that
talking to yourself can help you think
clearly solve problems and even boost
your confidence so when you practice
speaking English a alone you're not just
improving your language skills you're
also training your brain that's
fascinating so Learners shouldn't feel
embarrassed about talking to themselves
it's actually a smart way to learn
exactly so everyone keep practicing and
don't be
[Music]
shy wow today's episode was full of
useful tips let's do a quick recap the
five ways to practice speaking English
alone are think in English talk to
yourself read out loud Shadow native
