hello everyone and welcome back to the
English dialogue podcast I'm
Mike and I'm Emma today we're diving
into a topic that's both inspiring and
challenging if you never try it you will
never know it's about taking Chan is
stepping out of your comfort zone and
discovering new possibilities that's
right Emma how many times have we
hesitated to try something new only to
look back later and wonder what if
whether it's learning a skill starting a
project or simply saying yes to an
opportunity trying is the first step to
knowing exactly but let's be honest Mike
it's not always easy fear of failure
self-doubt and even the comfort of
routine can hold us back that's why
today we'll explore why it's so
important to try what holds people back
and how to push through the fear let's
jump in let's start with the basics Emma
why do you think trying new things is so
important I think it's all about growth
Mike every time you try something new
you learn whether it's about the world a
skill or yourself even if it doesn't
work out you've gained
experience what about you I completely
agree Emma and I think trying is also
how we discover our
passions sometimes the things we end up
loving the most are the things we almost
didn't try that's such a good point Mike
and let's not forget that trying builds
confidence every time you step out of
your comfort zone and succeed or even
just survive you prove to yourself that
you're capable
absolutely and even when things don't go
as planned there's value in the
experience failure isn't the opposite of
success it's part of the
process so Mike let's talk about what
holds people back from trying new things
what do you think is the biggest
barrier I think fear is a big one Emma
fear of failure fear of rejection or
even fear of the unknown can stop people
in their tracks what about about you I
completely agree and I'd add self-doubt
people often think I'm not good enough
or I can't do that so they don't even
try so true and I think Comfort plays a
role too it's easy to stay in your
routine or stick with what's familiar
even if it's not fulfilling trying
something new requires effort and
uncertainty absolutely and let's not
forget about societal expectations
sometimes people avoid trying new things
because they're afraid of what others
will think or say that's such an
important Point Emma but recognizing
these barriers is the first step to
overcoming them let's bring this to life
with some stories Mike can you think of
a time when you took a chance and it
paid off definitely Emma I once had the
chance to move to a new city for a job I
was nervous about leaving my comfort
zone but I decided to go for it
it turned out to be one of the best
decisions I ever made I grew so much
personally and
professionally what about you that's
such a great example Mike for me it was
starting a blog I was terrified of
putting my thoughts out there but once I
started I discovered how much I loved
writing and connecting with
readers that's amazing Emma these
stories show that taking a chance can
lead to unexpected Rewards
and even if it doesn't there's still so
much value in the experience absolutely
but let's also acknowledge that not
every risk works out do you have a story
where trying something didn't go as
planned oh for sure I once tried to
learn how to surf and let's just say it
was a humbling
experience I spent more time falling
than standing but you know what it was
still fun and I gained a lot of respect
for the sport
what about you definitely I once signed
up for a cooking competition thinking it
would be a fun challenge I didn't win
but I learned so much about cooking
under pressure and I discovered I'm
better at eating than competing let's
talk about strategies Emma what's your
first tip for pushing through the fear
of trying something new my first tip is
to start small Mike you don't have to
dive into the deep end just take one
small step toward your goal it's less
overwhelming and still gets you moving
what about you that's a great one Emma
I'd say focus on the potential rewards
instead of the risks ask yourself what's
the best thing that could happen if I
try this it can shift your mindset from
Fear to excitement so true and I'd add
prepare as much as you can whether it's
researching practicing or talking to
someone who's done before preparation
can help you feel more
confident that's a great Point Emma
another tip is to embrace failure as
part of the process instead of seeing it
as something to avoid view it as a
stepping stone to growth I love that
Mike and i' also suggest finding support
having a friend Mentor or Community
cheering you on can make a huge
difference Emma let's talk about the
benefit of trying what do you think
people gain from stepping out of their
comfort zone so much Mike for one they
gain experience even if things don't go
perfectly every attempt teaches you
something valuable what about you
absolutely Emma and I think trying also
builds resilience the more you push
yourself the more you realize you're
capable of handling
challenges so true and let's not forget
the joy of Discovery trying new things
can introduce you to passions skills and
experiences you never knew you'd enjoy
exactly Emma and I'd add that it can
expand your
opportunities whether it's meeting new
people finding a new career path or
opening doors you didn't know existed
try and creates
possibilities Mike let's address the
other side are there times when it's
okay not to try something
definitely Emma if trying something goes
against your values or feels unsafe it's
okay to say no not every opportunity is
the right one what about you I
completely agree and I'd add that
sometimes timing matters if you're
already overwhelmed or not in the right
head space it's okay to wait until
you're ready that's such an important
Point Emma it's about finding the
balance between pushing yourself and
respecting your limits Mike this has
been such an inspiring
conversation the phrase if you never try
it you will never know is such a
powerful reminder to take chances and
embrace the unknown absolutely Emma to
anyone listening if there's something
you've been hesitating to try take that
first step whether it works out or not
you'll learn and grow from the
experience and remember life is full of
possibilities the only way to discover
them is to take a chance and see where
it leads well said Emma thanks for
tuning in to the English dialogue
podcast if you found this episode
helpful share it with someone who might
need a little encouragement to try
something new until next time take care
and keep trying you never know what
amazing things are waiting for you
