in this video we're going to show you
how to buy Metro tickets and how the new
2025 pricing that will start on January
1st will affect you we'll show you how
to buy your tickets at a machine at a
booth with an attendant or directly on
your phone via the official app and will
include the five apps you're going to
need when you're in Paris and stay tuned
until the end I have some important
information about what to do if you get
controlled in the Metro and they want to
give you a
on now before we talk about the new
pricing structure for 2025 let me tell
you how to buy a Metro ticket your first
option is to go to a booth like this one
behind me and talk to the attendant to
buy your ticket and in the train station
like gor they can be super busy and
you'll have to wait in line for a long
time this is why we recommend walking to
a smaller station nearby that may not
have any weight many of the attendants
will speak English but it's not a
guarantee your second option is to buy
at a machine like those one behind me
now it can get confusing because they
have multiple types of ticket machines
so let me show you the right one you
have the machine where you can buy the
navigo pass which is where everybody is
right now so you can buy your navigo
pass you can buy your single tickets to
the airport or to Disney or to Versa you
can buy all your tickets at this machine
those two machines there for people that
don't have a tickets once you have your
navigo pass then you can go to these
smaller machines there and you have the
little round uh purple knob where you
will put your navigo pass to recharge it
so those are the two kinds of machine
that you will see in the Metro and of
course the one with the long line is the
one you need to go to but once you have
your card then see there's nobody in
line for the one that you need to
recharge so that's always a great option
and the fourth option is to buy the
navigo pass or any ticket directly on
the phone via the official app now let
me show you the five apps you need to
have in Paris including the one where
you can buy your navigo pass directly on
them all right so the first app you need
to have is the bonjour ratp why I use
this app is mostly for direction to know
how to get from point A to point B so it
says where are you going so let me just
say that I'm going to the iold tower tfl
right here now it's going to be
searching for the best route for me to
go from right here gardano because it
knows where I am to the full tower and
you can see that there's multiple
options here I could take the re e to
Metro station number n and it's going to
take me 31 minutes and if I scroll down
I have one which is strictly Metro which
is line four to line 8 so let me open
this one because I want to stay in the
Metro side as opposed to going from RE
to Metro which are two different system
let me click on that so the first thing
that it's telling me is it's showing me
the map of Paris and if you scroll down
it it's going to show you that you're
living gardo and you're going to go in
Direction B which my wife calls bagu but
it's B Lucy OB right so that's the
direction that you need to go line four
Direction ban that's the most important
information because as soon as you get
in the Metro you're going to look at the
number four and the second thing you
need to know is what direction that I'm
going into because all metros go in One
Direction or the other so you need to
know which line and which direction once
you have that you're good and it's
telling me how crowded it is and then I
can also see if I push down on the
little thing here it's going to show me
the stations that I'm going to go
through so the first station is going to
be GES shat do and then is stasb San I'm
going to have to change so you'll know
the stations and if you see the sign in
the hallways that name the station
you're going to know that you're going
down on the right platform and then in
stasbor s
I'm going to change to line eight and
I'm going to go Direction Ballard and
there it's telling me to actually go in
the front of the train so it's giving
you all the information that you can
know even before you get inside the
Metro so once you get inside you're good
to go and then at the end so I'm going
to click on that it's showing me all the
stations that it's going to go through b
boulev all those station L mobile and
then exit at AOL military and there is
telling me that I have another 15minute
walk from that station to go to the
Eiffel Tower there's actually no Metro
station right at the base of the Eiffel
Tower all stations you'll have to walk
quite a bit the second thing that it has
at the bottom which I use quite often is
the little map feature all the way at
the bottom and then it's giving me the
maps uh of the Metro right here so then
I can blow it up and then I can see uh
exactly my connections and I can squeeze
in but I can also look at RB for example
if I want to see the line here and all
the stations that are from uh Charles
deal to Paris and all the stations that
it stops into gardo chat s Melle I can
see that so that's a very helpful help
that I recommend everybody to get
bonjour ATP let me give you the second
one the second one is IDF Mobility which
is right next to it that's the one
you're going to use if you want to use
your phone as the device to get in and
out so the first option on this thing is
I can purchase the ticket directly on my
phone so I can click on that and it's
giving me the option single tickets day
tickets and package now note that right
now it's still 2024 so it's giving me
the options for 2024 once we are in 2025
this is going to change but you can buy
a day ticket for one or seven days you
know a one- day pass or multi-day pass
so let me just choose that obviously I
need to log in create myself an account
but once this is done you will literally
have the pass the navigo pass on your
phone and you'll use your phone to get
in and out through the turn Styles makes
your life easy it used to be clunky but
they've done a lot of progress with the
app and a lot of people have telling us
that this works great now we ran into a
couple of fans in front of gas salaza
that told us that they were using their
Apple watch to get in and out without
having you without using their phone and
it works seamlessly so it's also a great
option if you have an iple watch and I'm
pretty much sure that the Samsung watch
just works the exact same so that's a
great option if you're in Paris but I
will recommend that you only use that if
you are really at ease using those apps
if you're not if it's your first time I
probably recommend that you buy the
physical pass now the other thing that
you can do and I do this all the time
with Colleen because we have the
physical navigo pass is we actually
check how many passes we have on our
card so colen will give me the card I
put the card in the back of my phone
like it shows here and then it tells me
immediately how many pass I have left so
you can check on this before you leave
in the morning and make sure that you
have enough passes for the day if not
you go to one of those purple machines
and you refal it before you start your
day the next app you need to have on
your phone before you arrive in Paris is
Google Google translate this will save
your life if you don't speak any word of
French cuz this is really awesome so let
me show you how that works you can type
the question or you can actually speak
it into your phone hello I need some
help I'm trying to buy a navigo pass the
daily one to go to and from the airport
can you help me out with that and it
translated directly into French now let
me show you how it works if you want to
play it to someone
no and you and you can change the voice
if you want to have a male voice if
you're a male or a female voice
personally I don't care but this is
awesome this works everywhere if you're
in a store if you're buying a ticket if
you're in your hotel if you get stopped
and someone is trying to give you a
ticket or anything you can have a
conversation here without feeling stuck
this is a must download and must have
with you when you're in Paris the next
app is on different screen and that's
Google Map Google Map works beautifully
same thing here I want to go to the I
Tower from here and give me some
directions and give it to me uh with the
uh transportation and you can see here
it's pretty much very similar
information I actually telling me to
take line four to line six on this one
that's interesting it's giving me a
different option if I click on that uh
it's pretty much the same thing it's
going to give me the uh the walking
directions uh there is the station it's
telling you that there are sixc car
train and to go in the third one it's
showing you all the stops that you're
going to take oh my God this one is
taking you I would not take this one I
actually prefer my uh initial version on
bonjo RTP 4 to8 than this one I think
bonjo RP is going to be a little bit
more accurate in terms of which metro
line you should take versus Google Map
the next one has to do with Uber and we
get this question all the time does Uber
in France is the same as the United
States or Australia 100% you don't need
a different app the same app that you're
using in the United States it's the same
way so here I want to go from here well
let's stay with the theme of the Eiffel
Tower I want to go to the Eiffel Tower
it's saying this and now it's going to
be looking for options and I got one
that is looks like 3 minutes away so
it's going to tell me where to stay
outside actually I can pin it just like
it is in the uh us or wherever you're
coming from so it works exactly the same
way and you have all the options however
this is not my favorite option in Paris
and there's a big reason why let me
explain to you uh there's another app
called G7 which actually is the taxi the
problem with Uber is Paris is a very
congested city right you have a lot of
traffic on a good day and some days it's
like absolutely insane and the Uber cars
cannot go in the taxi Lane which the
buses and the taxis in Paris have
dedicated lanes for them this is why I
recommend that you also download and
sign and get an account and get your
credit card ready with G7 G7 is an app
for Parisian taxis that works exactly
like uber G7 is going to be a lifesaver
especially if you want to use uh a taxi
or an Uber type of Transportation uh
during peak hours because it'll be a lot
faster now peak hours in Paris are 7 to
9 a.m. and then 4: to 700 p.m. it starts
to open up a little bit like towards
8:00 it starts to open up but Paris
overall is very congested so you're
going to have to see and balance which
kind of Transportation you need to take
whether it's going to be better with a
Metro or with a taxi depending on the
time of the day and I'm going to
recommend that you watch this video
about some of the most common taxi scams
in Paris before you come here but our
experience with the G7 app it's since
the transaction is directly on your
phone there is no scamming involved
there's no exchange of money it's going
to be directly in the app just like an
Uber so it's a lot easier and that would
be my recommendation next let's talk
about pricing because starting January
1st 2025 the prices of the Metro are
changing and it's going to be a lot more
simple come on let me show you so it
used to be that Paris was broken down
into five zones for transportation like
5 4 3 2 and one and now all of that is
going away so you don't have to worry
about what zone you're in or what ticket
you need for that because it's all going
to be the same it's so much simpler
going to Versa or Disney via the re is
now a flat €50 per person one way or 5
round trip going to and from the
airports it's also simplified with one
single Fair of €13 per person one way
VIA the re or via the Wy bus or Orly bus
it's just a flat 13 rate and the same
thing goes for metro line 14 which goes
all the way to orley it's also €13 per
person one way taking the bus or tram
will now be cheaper with only €2 flat
rate per person one way the daily navigo
pass will now be €1 per person per day
for unlimited use of Metro and re
however that doesn't include going to
and from the airport that's an
additional €13 like I said before and
the navigo visitor pass which was
designed for tourists is now going to be
€29.90 per person per day and it
includes unlimited use of the metro arar
and passage to and from the airport and
if you still have old tickets and navigo
passes they will remain valid until
December 31st 2025 but after that those
will be obsolete the Paris Metro is very
effective and efficient but like any big
touristic spot it has its fair share of
pig Pockets so don't worry be prepared
we always take some money belts and
other anti- theft gears we put a link in
the description below check it out and
see if there's something in there you
need to keep you safe all right so I
just got back home but I need to address
one thing with you which is what happens
if you get controlled in the Metro and
they want to give you a fine and the
reason why I'm bringing this up is
because it happens too often that we see
someone mentioning that in our Facebook
group that they got controlled in the
Metro and they were asked to pay a fine
on the spot so I need to address that so
people understand what they need to do
and how to react if that happens to you
so in some of the cases it happens
because people didn't validate their
ticket they didn't put it through the
Turn Style and they don't have a
validated ticket or they bought the
wrong ticket they bought the ticket for
a child they're an adult or they bought
the wrong zone or they just simply
bought the wrong thing they're getting
controlled and now the controller is
asking them to pay a f now for me when I
hear those stories I feel like this was
an honest mistake and the controller
should probably have more empathy and
compassion for a confused tourist but
usually they really don't what we've
heard was that the controllers were un
flexible ible somewhat confrontational
and pretty aggressive my beef with this
is that the controllers know who they're
dealing with here now people invading
fairs and fraud is a huge problem in
Paris and they've estimated that it's
costing the City of Paris around €200
million EUR a year and towards evading
paying the fairs I don't think that
that's the big problem that we're
dealing with in Paris and I'm going to
leave it at that it is my opinion that
sometimes they try to take advantage of
disoriented and Confused tourists and
that the controllers should use common
sense when they're face with those
people but what we've heard in our
Facebook group is that they are
categorically unflexible and ask people
to pay the fine on the spot now here is
what you need to know first and foremost
you are under no obligation to pay the
fine on the spot and they'll threaten
that if you do not pay on the spot your
find will be more expensive and while
that is true at least you will have a
chance to plead your case and dispute
what they're saying about your ticket
and I'm going to put a link in the
description below to the official
website when you can file such a dispute
now according to multiple French news
outlets Metro controllers have an
incentive to get you to pay on the spot
because they're getting a 10% commission
if you pay on the spot so that may
explain while they are unflexible that
you pay now and not later because if you
pay later they get nothing personally I
think that's pretty outrageous but
that's what so and it's very very
important that you do not lose your
temper insult them or become
confrontational remain calm and just
State your case because if you become
confrontational then it's going to
become a problem for you because they
may call security and then they'll say
that you're the bad person so whatever
you do stay calm there's no reasons to
get upset calmly refute what they're
saying if you believe that you have a
valid ticket with you and that you
bought it in good faith you went to the
machine you bought a ticket and this is
what I have I have often seen some of
the turn Styles in gor for example that
are completely open or that they are not
working properly so you may put in your
ticket think you just validated your
ticket go through the Turn Style but it
didn't do anything because the machine
is broken now if you see a controller
they're going to say you didn't validate
your ticket and you say yes I did and
with their Scan they can see that you
didn't but here's the thing the fact
that the machine is broken is something
that you can dispute later on and saying
you have a defective machine I bought a
ticket in good faith but if they're
unflexible and ask you to pay a fine
don't panic in France you are in the
country of Human Rights and you do have
rights they can get all flustered
there's not much that they can do in the
worst case scenario have them issue you
a ticket and tell them that you will pay
it later but whatever you do do not pay
them on the spot you can show them your
driver's license you do not need to have
your passport with you at all time in
France and your driver's license will be
sufficient and have them issue what they
call a pro verbal which is basically the
word for a fine you'll have two months
to fill out the paperwork and file your
dispute and again I'm going to put a
link in the description so you might
want to save this video in case it
happens to you and of course it may be a
waste of your time and be pretty
frustrating especially if you think that
you bought a ticket in good faith but
take it in stride there is a lot of
fraud in Paris and they have to crack
down unfortunately you got caught in it
now to avoid this all together make sure
that each person in your group has a
ticket and it gets validated when you're
going through the Turn Style you should
put your card down and you should hear a
beep sound and then you should see the
little green light and the door will
open up if you see that you're good to
go but if you see a door that's open my
personal advice avoid those doors that
are already pre-open or seeing a Turn
Style that doesn't look right go to a
one that's working and you will avoid
this mess all together in this video we
showed you how to buy Metro tickets next
I would watch this one about 20day trips
you can take from Paris by train
