[English]
we're spending the next 3 weeks in Vietnam
from Ho Chi Minh in the South to the insane
Limestone wonders in the North and the Hawaii
style Seaside in the middle so join us as we
take in the breathtaking wonders of Ninh Binh and
to be honest that is the biggest hack to get this
entire place by yourself find some delicious
traditional foods in Hoi An but when I tell
you those Banh Mi were so good we went back for
seconds today and discover the unusual island of
Phu Quoc to make our incredible time in Vietnam
more accessible we've combined all of our travel
vlogs into one Vietnam Mega Vlog with some extra
never-before-seen bits mixed in along the way so
sit back with your drink of choice as we explore
our favorite country to travel to of all time and
we're going to start by telling you why it ranks
as our number one Southeast Asian destination
When people find out we've traveled to
45 countries together we inevitably get
that one question and although we've
seen some epic places from the snowing
in Canada to the the deserts of Peru we
pretty much always have the same answer
Vietnam today we are back in the largest
city of our favorite country to travel
and we're going to be spending the day
showing you exactly why we love it so
[Music] much first things first
we need to get a taxi [Music]
so today is going to be a mix of doing
the things that we did 2 years ago that
we love and doing some things that year one
Jordan and Emily just would never have done
but we're starting the day with one of our
favorite things about being back in Vietnam
[Music] one of the reasons that we love Vietnam
is their undeniable and quite unique Coffee
Culture not only are there lots of different
variations to try but everyone seems to hang
out at the cafes and all along the streets there
are these tiny tables and chairs where you can
sit watch the world go by and probably enjoy
your way too strong Vietnamese coffee um can
we please get one iced coconut coffee one coconut
coffee and one of the yogurt with coffees please
so two coffees we weren't really
getting anything cheap per se we
were kind of get the signature ones
110,000 Vietnamese dog which is like
s Australian dollars roughly not bad
yeah for like a coffee place [Music]
[Music] starting your day with coffee doesn't
seem unusual in fact probably most of the world
starts their day by having a coffee but in
Vietnam it's different 2 years ago when we
were in Hanoi we tried egg coffee for the first
time and I was pleasantly surprised as weird as
that sounds it was quite good so today I wanted
to get something similar but I didn't want to
do the same thing so I've got yogurt coffee
I can't even s is it that big oh my God Che
[Applause]
[Music]
it's probably not for me the uh like sourness
of the yogurt really comes through in a not so
pleasant way the bitterness of the chocolate
brings out the sourness in the milk that's
the worst part of both of those things I'll
probably get egg coffee next time okay [Music]
the yogurt has the flavor of Greek yogurt
you know no sweetness quite Punchy wo and
then that is quite strong coffee on top enjoy
So Kong Cafe is actually known for its coconut
coffee which we had 2 years ago in h and I
couldn't resist getting another one it was
my favorite of all of the coffees that we
tried in Vietnam it's almost like a frappe
but instead of ice or water it's coconut
milk maybe I don't actually know but it's
this really unique frappe consistency quite
strong coffee and then a nice sweet coconut
hint if you're going to get any coffee in Vietnam
this is the one to get but get it iced [Music]
time to go explore than you have a nice day
when we were here 2 years ago it was after
that whole Global pandemic thing so a lot of
places were still shut but we've heard that
one of them has reopened again also how call us
with it's artwork just in the apartment building
[Music]
those classic 920 Bells it's still under
construction which is very unfortunate
but the bells still go I just am
quite confused about the timing
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
one thing I did not expect to fall in
love with when we started traveling
was the different architecture that we see
everywhere and here in Vietnam it's super
unique it's like this Gothic Renaissance French
influenced architecture and we wanted to come
to this Cathedral because when we were
here in 2022 it was under construction
apparently it's still going for another 5
years luckily our next stop is right next
[Music]
door we actually came here 2 years ago
and sent a postcard to my mom sorry
Mom you're not getting one this
time it's going to someone else
this option I think this one's
quite cute artwork but this one
has a dog on it and she'll like that dog one dog
one oh I don't need a bag thank you so much
there's not much room for riding but I feel
like that's okay what should we say auntie yeah
ni maybe put a DE up there yeah this might be her
first ever letter yeah in her whole life in
her whole life okay decisions were made shut
[Music]
up yay I don't know if it was the Builder's
intention to make this a massive tourist
attraction but they definitely have there's
so many people here it is also way more fun
than it should be sitting down taking a
moment and riding out a postcard and then
sending it to a loved one so highly highly
highly recommend completely agree but now
I feel like we've worked up an appetite random
question but has Tilly ever received a letter
in the post yet love you bye hopefully
she hasn't and that's her first one ever
[Music]
[Music]
wow inside of that post office sorry I went
like that like yeah I'm going to be sweaty
for the whole time wearing Vietnam all right I
think we said this last time but the inside of
that post office looks like something out
of Harry Potter totally like the iron and
The Archers and wooden the wooden boxes on the
side that I think you go in to like maybe write
your letters or something so it's private I don't
know what they're for yeah who would go in there
wow part of me really wants to wait in here and
let Emily freak out trying to find me it's a bit
mean and it's hot do you go in there what's in
there it's it is where you privately write your
letters nice I would do that for a postcard
but also like everyone who handles a postcard
can read it so it's not like it's a private
thing anyway that's true and it's really dark
in there anyway all right yeah hungry we already
said we're hungry I'm having a good day me too
I love Vietnam Vietnam do you remember we were
walking down this way and we met the sweetest
old man do you remember him he was so happy and
laughing well this I guess I'll be on my way
now you just give me a [Music]
[Music]
did you want to look for a yeah
actually these have been fine these
yeah I feel like it's less busy Okay
so one of my other favorite things
about Vietnam is just how nice the
people are here and I just spent
10 minutes sitting down with this
sweetest Vietnamese man we got to know
each other he was singing me some selon
SEL that's way oh it's so nice here I
love it and it's just so welcoming and
kind where else but Vietnam where else
but Vietnam now I'm really hungry last
time we were in this epic City we made a
pretty Ordinary video and at the very end
of that we had a barn me it was incredible
I don't know if it's just because it was
the first authentic B me experience we've
ever had but I cannot stop thinking about it
[Music]
so weird being back
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Music] thank you I cannot believe
we actually found the exact same
place it looks different but it is definitely the
same food has got to be one of the most important
things to us when we're traveling and that is why
Vietnam has won so much of our love little bit
of a story time with this one obviously we made
that video last time loved it so much but people
started asking where exactly it was and we did
know the name of the shop or if the shop even
had a name so we literally Googled our hotel
went into street view and followed the steps
we took to get there and took a street view
of it there and that's what we've been sing
people to let them know so we really weren't
sure this place would still exist and it does
look different to the original video but it's
there do you want to try it first obviously a
few things I'm going off that makes me think
this is still the same place it's across the
street from a fruit place which I remember last
time cuz I almost order to fruit juice two
is the pork crackling it looks Sensational
so crispy on the outside the wooden chopping
block looks super familiar they're chopping
it fresh slicing up the barn meat loading
it up and then they drizzle it with this
gorgeous sauce that I'm convinced must be the
drippings from when they cooking the pork and
I think that that is the secret sauce that makes
this so memorable I am really worried because as
you can probably tell I've built this up quite a
lot in my [Music] head yeah smells amazing oh my
gosh
crunch mm it's quite a bit spicier than I
remember but that is divine the sauce that
they put in there has just Co everything
everything and honestly the pork crackle
is what makes it it is so crunchy that you can
hear it through the bread oh this time where
we're staying in Vietnam is District 1 which is
the super popular tourist area and apparently
the best Banh Mi in Saigon is right around
the corner from our hotel so I think we're
going to go try that tomorrow before we check
out and we'll let you know how it compares
yes
please that's look at that you can have
more you had like nine butts I've had
one
10 it is really good I think it was just that
bir was chili it wasn't chili at all after
that you one Jordan and Emily got it absolutely
correct that was incredible like the juice that
they put on the bun on the pork like seeped
into the bun and made it like soft and and
the little bit of spice actually added
so much to it I honestly we'll be back
here again I know I've been known to put some
mayo on some stuff be it generally over excited
happy positive person but when I tell you
those bun M were so good we went back for
seconds today I just can't believe it because
I feel like your memory things are always
exaggerated and better than they potentially
were you look back with rosecolor glasses but
this lives up to it I'm telling you there's
one recommendation you take from us in hoochi
Min it's to try these and let us know in the
comments what you think I'm putting it in the
description I'm putting it everywhere I can't
even remember what I was going to say a dollar
20 and it cost it was 20,000 Vietnamese Dong which
is like a120 Australian like 80 cents American we
got one to split you know you build things up in
your memory as well like it's always better in
your memory cuz look back with rose color glasses
but for that to still be that okay anyway have we
mentioned we love Vietnam this video is like
a love letter this is all right on to the next
[Music]
one one of the things we love most about travel
in Vietnam is the sheer affordability and how
much value you get for your dollar here as a
tourist but the next thing we're doing we've
actively avoided in several cities because it's
very expensive and unfortunately Saigon is the
[Music]
same and 20 minutes later and $350
later we are all the way across
town I'm see 500 it's 40,000 we have
yes please thank you you take the and then
you take a drink at 79 in game 81 and keep
Thea thank you so much like we said observation
towers is something we usually avoid but this
one was too good to ignore not only that we
upgraded from just seeing the view having a
package yeah we got sold we don't have no
idea what's included apparently we got a
photo shoot on the way in which we did not what
expect new thumbnail wow okay 79 Sky View we're
going to fly up in the clouds a I forgot to
put the Drone up you do that after oh wow
ooh it's gone quite fast I think oh my ears
are popping it's like the bur Khalifa one
where you're like I never did that too expensive
we didn't do it no I'm sorry [Applause] [Music]
is that how high we are right now [Music] yeah
so when I knew I wanted to do an observation deck
and go up somewhere really high and look over the
city I started researching and I found something
called the bit Financial Tower that was built in
2010 and when it was it was the tallest building
not just in hoimin in all of Vietnam
so I got really excited about it then
I dug a little bit deeper and I found
this place landmark 81 which absolutely
smashed bit Finance Tower this one is 460
something M tall and incredible [Music]
so the tickets to get up here cost about
30 Australian per person but then you can
upgrade for about $3 more and you get a
bunch more included you get a drink a VR
experience two photos print out and like a freaky
Skywalk Oh my legs are like jelly already go go
go go go I would say I'm not sure if you points
are worth it for us cuz that's quite expensive
and $60 is over half of our daily budget but if
you are going to do it upgrading to the combo
package is definitely worth it cuz it's only
$3 more and you get all of that extra stuff if
you're on a vacation or a holiday here and it's
like one of your only stops definitely do it
you're doing a long-term Budget Travel Maybe not
maybe not the views are incredible like 360 can
walk around and it is just super clear today and
it really puts into perspective how big this city
is we have one more thing to explore on our
love letter to Vietnam but that's better at
nighttime that's crazy
[Music] the plan
[Music]
[Music]
this is new and H Street it is a really cool
night time is that only night uh it's I don't
know a really cool pedestrian street here in hosi
Min it's like 60 M wide and it is just alive at
night with people selling things food all the
shops the lights it's so pretty they also do a
bunch of performances here I don't know whether
it's like obviously time of year is going to
dictate what's here but I've seen things online of
like big dragons and all sorts it runs all the way
from like this super beautiful European historical
government building all the way down to the river
we decided we would walk here tonight instead
of getting a grab and the walk here was quite
cool like I we don't go out much after dark but
we should I think they do especially here just
all of the lights and the people all out cuz it's
cooled down so much after the rain but I have had
such a great great I have had such a
great 24 hours priding This Love Letter to
Vietnam today we're exploring the tropical
island of Phu Quoc at least that's what we
thought we were doing this is not at all what
we expected we flew to the island anticipating
Sun vibrant beaches and a bustling tourism Hub
but if you've seen our channel before you know
that travel doesn't always go to plan we've like
4 minutes to check in I don't think we've ever had
a reject Landing before th storms basically
every day and in this video we really mean
it if you've seen our last video you know that
we love Vietnam I love Vietnam Vietnam we've
actually been here before and spent an entire
month adventuring from the south to the north
we've also recently decided to set ourselves
the ambitious goal of visiting 100 countries
in the next 2 years just plump I was thinking
that's an easy one to pack King my guys it's
just one flight oh pretty good with a girl like
that you're probably thinking why would they
spend more time in a country they've already
been to we've actually got something called
the Redemption list it's effectively a list of
everywhere we've been but things we've missed
in those countries one of our favorite and
also most frustrating things about full-time
travel is you can visit a country for as long
as you want and never see everything [Music]
oh this isn't him that's not him [Music] either
just 20 minutes and we'll be at the airport I
don't think Vietnam had these last time we
were here but there's all these electric
vehicles that you can get as grabs such a
good initiative and the car is super quiet
[Music]
we have like 4 minutes to check
in might be in the other section
think you don't stop me for the Drone get it
after hectic how was bedum two people were
sitting down in the middle of the wallway
after all of that hecticness and drama
our flight was delayed for half an hour
[Music]
okay got a little bit of time to tell you what
the plan is and it is a rough plan we literally
booked the flights in the accommodation about 14
hours ago the whole idea of this video and the
next few weeks in Vietnam are going to be doing
the things that we didn't get to do last [Music]
time allies V Q 4 5 the part
for change to Gate [Music]
14 right we didn't go to F walk in year
one of travel because we had a really
tight budget we were literally catching
buses and trains everywhere we went and
we would like to thank you for flying with [Music]
B walk is going to be lasting for another 30
minutes to an hour we will be diverting to
canel to uh wa off the weather once again we
apologized for the delay thank you for your
patience did you hear that we're diverting to
out to wait out the weather walk I don't think
we've ever had a rejected Landing before
that was crazy even all my years I used
to be a flent for four years I never had one
that was my first wow ladies and gentlemen we
have landed at K International Airport K City
it is a safy requirement that you remain that
we your about fast until the sign has been
St off okay let's try that again [Music]
ladies and genten welcome to F
International Airport F City the
local time now is half 4 p.m. and the
outside temperature is around 29° C
we would like to thank you for traveling
with us today look forward is your today
has been dramatic our 1 hour flight quickly
turned into into 3 hours but we have finally
landed got some new DS we are staying at the
on Lang Beach which in our admittedly short
and very very quick research is meant to be
one of the best beaches on the island and a
little bit more calm than the main city but it's a
20-minute taxi to get there perfect Island weather
[Music]
we have not had a good track record for getting
into places H you mean we got to the complete
wrong apartment after the first apartment not
having rooms available came to the hotel they
have no rooms John's not finding this quite
as funny as I am at the moment on hotel number
two hotel number two sale number two the gra off
where the hotels said they were they are not here
attempt number three for hotel number two on night
number [Music] oneome thank you made it to the
right hotel but it does have a different name on
the door and our flight got delayed this time and
diverted hopefully the next one's better and we
had a lovely little mudw walk to get here cuz the
driver for some reason even though he had Google
Maps going he was ignoring it but to be fair even
if he came down on the road I think you're meant
to it looks like it's flooded at the moment rainy
season also there's no one at reception I just
messaged them on WhatsApp but it is silent here
very yellow lighting but this place was only like
$15 a m I think with breakfast included 10 us and
look how spacious that's so good pool vi yeah
so quiet thank you so we were meant to get in a
couple of hours ago which meant we would be going
out for lunch instead of dinner right now it also
means that we have had breakfast and a bit of gum
and that's it so I'm starving hello hello you do
want to be friends you do you want to be best
we can be best we don't fight each other though
[Music] to explore new
[Music] places we probably should have checked
the weather before booking flights to the islands
in full transparency this is currently
our second full day here and this is the
weather thunderstorms basically every day
so this video is quickly turning into how
not to travel F walk in Vietnam not only were our
flights diverted and it's been raining the entire
time we've been here we're the only people that
we kind of see in the entire town now apparently
the whole electronic grid is down for the entire
day it's just bad timing it's just bad timing but
it's our last day here so we can't say no we are
going to explore anyway and hopefully the power
comes back on at some point how beautiful
is this hotel though it's just [Music]
us 15 bucks a night making a deal but even
though it's not great weather and even though
things aren't going to plan we're going to have a
good day and we're going to be positive and we're
going to look on the bright side deal deal it's
also rainy enough that we're going to switch to
the GoPro let's go I don't know how the audio
is it's a 20 minute walk to the beach [Music]
truth be told that was our third direction
of trying to get to the beach the universe
does not want us exploring through walk
okay new plan we going to get to a road
somewhere and then we're going to order
a grab and take us to the place that's
meant to be like the Europe side of Phu
Quoc me to be really really beautiful
[Music]
and about 15 minutes later we've made it
to Grand world there's more people out
on the streets than we thought there would be
there's a lot more than yesterday and this is
like a crazy bamboo structure to welcome us and
look there that looks like qu this is so weird
[Music]
they have like Jurassic Park themed music playing
constantly really puts you into that Jurassic
Park mindset I can't wait to get into all the
buildings one of the most popular things
to do on the island of Phu Quoc is to go
to Vin wonders which is the theme park here
it stretches over 50 hectares and is actually
the biggest theme park in all of Southeast Asia
I'm pretty sure Grand world is part of that but
this place is free entry the VIN wonders
theme park looks amazing and incredible
but it is very expensive and we thought
we're not going to make the most of it in
this weather so this is a good compromise
for us this is crazy it looks like Venice
[Music]
some of the shops here are suffering from the no
power but some have their own battery powered but
either way it is dead here and when you compare
this to the actual Venice very different they've
literally got the same Bridges you see in Venice
over the canals so from what I've understanded
this was built through the Vietnamese government
and private companies investing millions of
dollars to make it and make it like the new hub
for everyone all tourists to come here and relax
it's so weird because it's themed not Vietnam it's
like come to Vietnam to not really be there but
yeah Co happened as they opened or oh and now we
have a bit of a global recession so I don't know
really really tough start it's quite an eerie
feeling being here because it's really cool and
clearly quite new but there is just no one here
yeah it's like I don't want this to happen but it
feels like it has the potential to end up one
of those like themed ghost towns that you see
on YouTube all the time it's almost a ghost town
just us being here even though we're walking down
like these huge streets completely by ourselves it
looks like there are apartments up above each of
the shops so even though the shops are closed like
people are living here as well let's go to London
it look like I'm at London
totally we've been walking for about 10 minutes
through Venice London and now Mallorca and I
can't help but feel like an eerie sadness I
don't know if it's ever really been fully up
and running and I genuinely feel sad for small
businesses that were probably told here's a
great investment opportunity have your spot in
this awesome neighborhood buy an apartment and
it's just like there's no one here there's so
many closed businesses I would say over half
of the shops are shut and I don't know if that's
because it could be because we're here in the off
seon it's an odd time of day like middle of the
day maybe I know one street is the night market
so maybe that does all open at nighttime but it
is just bizarre we are it feels like we are the
only ones here after five plus attempts we
finally made it to the beach Ready Step On
Together woo this beach is gorgeous the sand
is beautiful like really thin small tiny grains
there's like a bar area heaps of different
seating options this would have been a really
cool part of the park and maybe in summer it is
like honestly we we just don't know this oh you
can go we wanted to come to Phu Quoc and we've
been to Phu Quoc now this is not at all what we
expected we had pretty clear expectations of what
we going to experience here and a ghost town was
not on the list not at all I think we were just
picturing summer tropical beaches nice Sun we
have had none of that sometimes travel plans
don't go to plan so we apologize for that but
at least you got to see maybe a different side of
Fu walk I think that's what makes travel fun yeah
you never know what you're going to get and always
look on the bright side like this would be better
if it was full of people and all of the shops
were open but also we've had it completely to
ourselves let go back to our completely
alone Resort yeah our private Resort if
we have to of course just as we made it back
to our hotel the sun came out so we jumped at
the chance to get in the pool trying to make
the most of the sunshine we ended up back at
the kamama restaurant for some overpriced but
delicious beer and pizza to celebrate going
to new places the next morning we made our way
back to the airport for a long but thankfully
less eventful travel day from Fu walk to deat we
made our way here for a very specific reason 2
years ago we came to Vietnam and completely fell
in love with the food to be honest it's most of
the reason that we've come back but Vietnam
was only our third country on this trip so
what if our memories of Vietnamese food was more
nostalgic rather than truly accurate yesterday
we flew from Phu Quoc to Da Lat and today we're
going on an epic Vietnamese food tour to find
[Music] out just across this road is the
Da Lat night market we actually stumbled
across this this morning when we were
walking around the town and it was so
busy there were people selling fruit and
vegetables and clothes and everything you
can think of but then we realized that
at exactly 5:00 they Chang from a day
Market into a night market and it becomes fully
pedestrianized Food Heaven so this is our first
[Music] stop it looks like the market is
split down the road evenly one side is all
food stores with little plastic chairs sitting
out and the other side they're still set up but
it looks like it's all clothed plus it has just
gone 5:00 p.m. and it is already [Music] packed
strawberries have to be the most popular fruit
here in Da Lat we've seen strawberry ice cream
these perfectly white ones in a box that honestly
look like they're chocolates and little plastic
cups like this fill to the broom with them
this is Du luck or shaking strawberries and
she put all the strawberries into a jar with this
sauce and this powder shook it all up and here we
go ooh wo that is intense it's
quite spicy and salty but then
you have the sweetness from the
strawberry coming through as well
I love that this is like a on thee-o
treat so healthy you say spicy yeah
yeah we've seen a lot of different quality
levels of strawberies walking around some
have looked like movie Set quality and some
have looked really bad but I think we kind of
split the middle here some are good some not so
good that is super weird you're right spice to
start probably not my thing it's like as
soon as the strawberry enters your mouth
there's a flavor you're not expecting cuz you
think it's going to taste like strawberry but
it's spicy it's interesting that
sweet salty combo can't go wrong
what do you have sugar perfect okay so no
judgments but as we were walking away from
the night market we saw other strawberry
cups those ones look Heap sped up and it
turns out there is a chili version which
we had or a sugar version he B basically
has all of the cups pre-made with cut
up strawberries in them spoons in about
a tablespoon of sugar shakes it up with
another cup on top and here we have a nice
treat better obviously it's CED in Sugar oh it
takes it from like an interesting snack to a
really nice dessert that feels kind of healthy M
I'll try no these strawberries look so red they
look like that Marino cherries you get in an old
fashioned oh yeah not even exaggerating 100 times
better than the other ones it's actually like a
royal show candy treat yeah they should do this
more so simple adopt this Australia this Market
literally stays open until 5:00 tomorrow morning
but we need to move on our next St we were going
to stay at the night market but when I was doing
some research I came across a place that had all
of these super wholesome five-star reviews so of
course that's where we had to go this place is so
unassuming it's literally a garage like there's no
attempt to make it look restaurante it's just a
little old lady super nice cooking out the front
she's so methodical in how she does it it's one
by one one by one the same system every single
time I'm really excited to try something it feels
Uber local she has remembered everyone's orders
and how many they're having and it's bringing them
out in like stages so no one goes hungry for too
long it's so cool I'm so pleased we came here as
soon as we walked up she just said two and then
pointed to some seats for us to go sit in some
people cleared out and she's moved just closer
to the front I love that she's just taking charge
she's like this firry it smells so good [Music]
so this is Vietnamese Pizza it is a rice paper
sheet topped with a bunch of things we have two
flavors coming one with cheese one with something
else I don't really know but it looks like there's
egg on top and then this spicy maybe seasoning we
also have a sauce which Jordan tells me might be
spicy so I'm going to abstain from that they put
the rice paper Grill on charcoal and it gets this
beautiful color then what's really fun is you have
some scissors and you get to cut your own pizza
slices a thank
you thank you oh I think that's the cheese one
that is so good the egg is cooked perfectly on
top it's YY and spicy and salty super
Savory and crunchy it like turkey Pizza
remember that no it's so thin the rice
paper I like it cuz it's super crunchy
there's something about crunchy it's not
a flavor but it should be right for the
cheese that is super tasty I can see why you
like that so much it's pretty much all crunch
I wonder what the uh stuff on top
is really curious because the rice
Patty obviously is so thin and then it's
cooked over these CH grills it becomes
super crispy and like blackened but not
too much on the bottom I also I'm pretty
sure I saw sesame seeds on the bottom but
whatever they're doing it's working [Music]
actually I might have another one I love that
it's just toilet paper is your napkins so this
place was absolutely jam-packed of locals when we
came in here we to sit all the way at the back and
now everyone's eaten and left and it's really
just us left it's a shame now that we finished
we are leaving but that was surprisingly really
really good not that surprising I I thought it
looked good but it exceeded my expectations
I should we will leave the location for this
place in the description because if you come to
Da Lat you have to eat here I'm pretty sure her
name is Auntie DIN and she's been in service I
think for 20 years and yet it is so unassuming
in here so much better than getting at the market
know how much it no hope it was not expensive 1 2
3 thank you so much have a nice time thank you
that was amazing that was delicious we'll see
you tomorrow of course we had to start the day
with coffee but because we're here in Dap we
wanted somewhere that was serving Da Lat beans
because they are grown here something about the
temperature makes the coffee amazing we came
to a super popular Cafe and ordered two coffees
one black and one with cream neither of them have
arrived the way I was expecting the black coffee
is almost like a table drip coffee with a little
candle and the cream is ice cream plus we got two
other mugs I'm pretty sure filled with coffee
for no [Music] reason what's not to love is ice
cream and coffee for breakfast to the shop we've
actually come to is called black garlic I'm pretty
sure I read there's something in the Brewing
process that involves garlic and and we get
like a little bit of garlic on the side as well
but I'm really curious to see if I can actually
taste any of that in the Brew itself it's so fancy
I don't think I've had a I've copied this fancy
ever can't taste any garlic at all that is
strong Vietnamese coffee and like stronger
than normal strong Vietnamese coffee it's
almost too hot for me at the moment maybe
[Music]
unless you are a fan of strong coffee and
I mean strong I would recommend getting the
cream because the ice cream melts and it makes
it this creamy sugary deliciousness but o I
feel like my eyes are bugging out after having
just a couple of sips of the black ones [Music]
and our next stop KFC just kidding we
wouldn't go to KFC bye-bye you having
[Music]
fun the B
oh yeah one yeah yeah one Ser thank you come
after about a 15minute walk into the suburb
area of dant we've come to a place called
arat and that's because they're supposed
to have one of the best band cans which is
mini cakes or can cakes in English I'm not
really sure what to expect but if online is
anything to go by it might be similar to what
we had in La this place is super cute there are
heaps of chairs where the the only ones in here
and a beautiful mural painted on the back of the
wall that honestly looks real like it does look
like a building the people look fake but it looks
like the real building do I think it's cuz of the
roof at the front of the shop there's these three
huge silver things and in them there's all of
these Circle rounds that they just get filled
with the egg batter and all of the toppings
on top plus we got this super cute oh I think
it's filled with a sauce that we dunk them in
they look nothing like what we got in L bang at
all so I don't know what I saw online but these
are different there's four different options
here and we went for the chicken and beef one
ooh weird but good yeah not bad is it's what you
expect like it's an egg M it's like a frittata
in a crunchy casing and the sauce that came on
the side is filled with scallions fried onions
beautiful so it was 48,000 Vietnamese Dong and
it comes with eight we almost got one serving
each so really glad we didn't so it's like it's
almost like a rice paper cup with uh an egg like
a frittata frittata and then in that whatever
you choose yeah okay very simple but really
delicious they got served on this wooden basket
and what's really cool is the mural inside here
shows I guess the original way of making these on
a clay pot over an open fire that would be pretty
cool bit of a rookie error on our part we
didn't have enough cash so I'm going to
sit here as collateral while Jordan goes on
about a half hour journey to an ATM whoops
[Music]
motorbikes are fun we got a motorbike
back ooh the next food we're getting
we have technically had before
but not the Da Lat way but the
shop is about a half an hour away and
we're going to take the scenic route
[Music]
there is a huge Lake in the center of
deat so we've come to walk around that
one of the most popular things to do here
is an Alpine Coaster it's almost like a Lou
and we were so close to going but Jordan was
double-checking the prices this morning and it
out you have to pay like an entrance fee
and then pay for the ride as well so it
was just outside of our budget for doing
something like that I think if we were in
Switzerland obviously the price would probably
be tripled if not more but the views would be
insane there I might consider it a bit more
plus this is a food tour we're not meant to
be doing experiences so instead we'll sit by the
water and wait until we're hungry again [Music]
[Music]
we were Googling where to go for the next
dish and this is one of the top rated places
on Google Maps it is very loud but the
owner is super sweet we walked in and he
just said bu me J ma I said yep one please
and now we're sitting out the front waiting
out the front we've got incredibly busy road
there's Road works and just an insane amount
of motorbikes and then in here there's local
music just blasting which is nice Ambience
I guess they try to drown that out but for
our purposes not not great just get into the
party [Music] buds so we have had bar me before
it is one of our favorite Vietnamese dishes but
in theat and I think throughout the country
there is a version of it called bar me Jan
M Sho mine which is bar me with meatball soup
I've been calling it like a deconstructed bar
me I have no idea what to expect though
all I know is Bread soup meatballs
yeah I'm pretty sure from the research I've done
it's a pork meatball in a hearty broth with the
bread on the side and you dunk it sounds amazing
sounds like a meatball sub from Subway but like
10 times better wow thank you perf perfect
thank it absolutely passes the smell test it
actually smells like Italian meat I'm assuming
we just cut the birad open and put the meatballs
in like we make a b me or do we we dunk I think
get dunk we dunk it's [Music] toasted that is a
super hearty soup outside and the bread is so
fresh I think this was baked this morning let
me get some meat [Music] for this is going
to be your new favorite bar meat the meat
is so tender it melts in your mouth and then
the crunch from the bread delicious [Music]
the broth is delicious there's a tiny bit
of spice to [Music] it it like falls apart
in your mouth but inside it is just like
a burst of flavor it's like the broth but
then times two this is my new favorite
bun me we might need to order another
one that was delicious it's like a perfect
lend between two of my favorite Cuisines
Vietnamese and Italians one thing that always
freaks me out in places like this though is we
don't know how much that was so John's going to
go pay and fingers crossed it's not crazy how
much was it I was 25,000 Vietnamese Dong or $150
Australian on to the next [Music] [Applause] place
all right this was not part of the plan but
we saw it on line so we're going in this is
crazy can we please get two saon be thank
you go around on thep yeah and outside on
the and the garden yeah you can find a
way a if we can find a way it is a maze
place even the stairs are crazy we had heard
about this place in Da Lat there's a hotel in D
lovingly referred to as the crazy house you can
actually stay there I was so close to booking
us there cuz it's not wildly expensive
and there's all these different themed
rooms what was getting me close to booking
is there was a kangaroo room but it's kind
of freaky cuz there's this huge kangaroo
statue like staring over your bed but the
same architect that designed that designed
this bar I bought the beers asked if we
could go upstairs and she said I think
you should go downstairs into the maze
first what you're going to have to hunch so much
wa go what how do you keep something like this
clean what the so it is a proper maze you can go
up there or down there do you remember the tunnels
in Budapest yeah except that was like real freaky
like someone was going to jump out of you you're
inside of a mouth at the moment if you're inat
you have to come here this is crazy she kind of
giggled when she let us in here and said if we can
make it through there's like a garden at the end
so I don't know if this maze is intentionally
meant to be hard you are so blue imagine being
drunk in here I'd be lost in a heartbeat imagine
being drunk in here with a bunch of people like
you turn the corner and there's people there's so
many little cocoons that you could go sit down and
have a drink in this must be the first little
bar area maybe the second who knows we are so
higher up than I thought what level are we on I
think we made it to like the third level but I
definitely saw more stairs going further up so
I guess we'll check that out after we're going
to sit here and have our beers it is raining
but we got a nice view of the city and a bit
of cover not bad nice like surprise for a food
tour day we genuinely weren't planning on coming
here but as we walked past the rain started
so it's like the universe was telling us go in
[Music]
this way sure unless it goes down yeah
good we did it wa this is crazy this
Garden is hectic there's so many levels
up and again it's like a a maze going up
it just keeps going and going and going
we did it it we made it to the very top
of the maze bar now the rain stopped so
back to the food tour Freedom that was
good there are two pretty unusual things about
me one I really like to soak in the tub and two
I never grew out of my fondness for milk so when
I heard that the last meal that we were getting
in the lab was a milk drink I was pretty excited
you know when you're a kid and your parents give
you a glass of milk with dinner no matter what
Jordan has never grown out of that he still if
he can Will have a glass of milk with his dinner
it is the weirdest thing I'm a growing boy so we
read online that when it gets late and a little
bit cooler here in deette the locals like to have
War milk and pastries and they dip the pastries
in the war milk as like a nighttime snack it is
not night yet so we only found one place that
was barely open and managed to get this but
I'm really excited to try the only issue is that
it's not regular milk it's soy milk and when you
say warm soy milk even I'm a bit like so you
might notice a theme throughout some of these
Foods here in Da Lat and that is that they are
very warming or comforting and that's because
the temperature here is generally a little bit
cooler than other places in Vietnam and I read
online as the temperature begins to drop it's
apparently a simple but beloved drink that's
associated with warmth and relaxation after a
day of exploring so this is the perfect way to
end a food tour apparently you can get like a
condensed milk version or just a sugar version
of this we had a bit of a language barer
so I don't know what we got it's raining ah
quick I really like it it's like warming and
comforting and as the rain comes down I feel
good on the inside because of this let's trying
to quickly try it we can go home yeah I kind of
get it it's like the Vietnamese version of milk
and cookies if I'm honest I knew I was going to
enjoy a Vietnamese food but I had no idea that
Da Lat would have so many unique Foods vers the
rest of Vietnam like there's so many specific
to Da Lat things and I'm sure you can get them
in other places but they're just ubiquitous here
anyway what are we doing next hopefully next time
you see us we'll be trading in the rain for some
sunshine on a beach to get to Vietnam's Tropical
Coast we got what we like to call a catfish bus
see you looking at these videos probably think
that this looks unbelievably comfortable and don't
get me wrong they are better than normal buses but
they are not as comfortable as you think they are
luckily it was only 4 hours and we made it to a
train we were going to film here but we love this
town so much that we decided to disconnect for a
few days and celebrate Emily's birthday with our
toes in the sand also we have been here before and
we did make a vlog it's a bit older but I'll link
it here tonight we are catching an overnight train
in Vietnam it's currently about 6:00 and our
first class sleeper train leaves in 30 minutes
just checking
out the whole journey should take about 11 hours
we're leaving from here in N Trang heading 500 km
North and if all goes to plan we should arrive in
dang at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning you can book
these tickets online but we came here yesterday
and booked in person and that's for two reasons
the first is it actually saved us a little bit
of money in Booking fees and the second is we
guaranteed ourselves the bottom bunk which we know
from experience is fast period I am super grateful
that we ate before we came here cuz generally we
just assume that there's going to be some sort of
food option at the train station turns out in
the train there is a cafe that sells some ice
creams and a mini M with some potato chips train
se22 is arriving on track one fire one saf please
do not cross the tracks in the station and this
absolutely necessary if you need to cross the
tracks please follow any instructions of the
way we [Applause] start oo we're looking for
13 hello hello how are you this is us wow this
is so much better than the last Vietnam train we
got as you can probably tell I don't think we're
going to be alone tonight so I want to do a super
quick tour while we're not interrupting other
people's sleep this is first class which might
seem odd given that we have to share a room
I think you normally think first class means
at the front of the plane something private in
Vietnam trains that is not the case so we have
these you know decently thick mattresses
the sheets look really clean Decor 10 out
of 10 doesn't that look like it's the window and
you're just driving past a sunset there little
foot things you have to be quite flexible and
don't wear a skirt cuz if you're up on the top
buk it's a bit of a workout we have the two bottom
bunks it looks like we get a pretty plushy pillow
doesn't smell super clean it's okay a comforter
which I would say I can't imagine using but on
our last train the air conditioner was blasting
so I was freezing a lot of the night might need
this it looks like everybody has their own little
NightLight that has a USB charger as well super
handy a cute little desk this is a benefit of
having the bottom bunk we get to use this top bunk
looks like they get some storage above and all of
the switches so they're in charge of the lights I
think you know want a bus you normally
have one of those little air conditioner
controls turns out there's not air
conditioning in here there's just 50 of
those I don't know why that's so funny just
turns out there is also Hooks and Hangers in
case you need to hang some things a bin and proper
Outlets so we could charge our laptops if we want
to there is also a quintessential southeast Asia
thing and that is shoes inside shoes I'm assuming
these are actually for you to take and wear
to the bathroom cuz it is kind of annoying to
have to put on your sneakers every time you want
to go to the bathroom cuz obviously you're not
going Barefoot right de don't do that I used to
hate when people did that on the planes so this
is the first class option as Emily was saying
but it is a four birth there is also a second
class option which is six birth and a second class
seated option which is literally like a bus seat
for the entire 11 hours and please don't do that
one that one would hurt so much but over the last
couple of years they have actually introduced
like a private VIP class they're calling it and
it's a a cabin just like this but only two vs and
we couldn't come to Vietnam for a second time and
do all these different trains and not experience
that so our next leg is going to be in that super
expensive super luxurious private cabin bye-bye
money please watch our YouTube videos we need to
get that money back if you know us you know
that that we love train travel and I'm super
excited to be comparing tonight's experience to
what will I'm sure be a better experience in a
couple of days time it is 6:29 right now so the
train should leave in about 1 minute which means
we might be alone for the start that's some
pretty clouds I know from a very very brief
introduction this train looks magnitudes better
than the last train we took I just in Vietnam
there are different train types like government
run ones and more private tourist ones but this
is the same level that we took 2 years ago and
it feels infinitely better right we had dirty
sheets I'm pretty sure and she like yelled at
me for asking for clean ones you remember that
yeah while we stopped I thought I'd run to
the bathroom so it's quiet and you canar
hear me for a super quick toilet tour it
seems like there is one Western and one
squatty puty almost per Carriage our Carriage
technically doesn't have one you have to cross
over to the next section to be able to access
the bathroom there is a toilet a bedet a a bin
toilet paper and a sink with running water
as well as a little mirror it is quite wet
in here because of the pet but honestly it's
really not that bad it doesn't smell too bad
yet there is a window so that should open and
help with the smell during the night pretty
good wow you have to press and hold the flush for
8 seconds all in all I'd give this a C+ maybe a B
minus it is 6:53 and we haven't left yet
according to our tickets and everything
that's available online we should be getting
into dang at 5:55 in the morning but we're
already running late so I think to make us
interesting we're going to put a clock on
we should get there in 11 hours hope that graphic
Works Ando you C and rest and and [ __ ] and
cola and beer uh chips chip no chip no chip uh
how much 40 40 yes thank you so much what
did you oh thank you that was such a nice
surprise everything happened all at once and it
continues we took off I was in the bathroom a
lady with a food cart came by so Jordan got
us some miscellanous fruit that apparently
is mango I don't know what that is I asked she
said it's mango and I said but what's that and
she just smiled said should we make the [Music]
beds I do feel like that's thicker than the last
train as well W I'll be the first to admit
that I have recency bias and I think maybe
my excitement got the better of me that we were
alone in this cabin for a while it looked a lot
newer than what I had expected turns out it's
not as clean as I thought there are some hairs
on the sheets which makes me think that they
don't get changed between people the toilet a
pron reflection and me going back to actually use
it definitely is like a c or SE minus probably a
c minus I think I'm still being nice trying to
be harsh so you have the right expectations all
right now what do we do I don't know what is
that kind of looks like guava guava might be
ah don't think it's meant to be that hard and dry
[Music]
oo it's quite sour money must it there is
plenty of room for bags in here even if we
had two guests that also had rolly bags
like us I have rearranged my section so
I have my rolly bag around here and then
my backpack and then I'm going to have my
handbag the closest to my head because of my
anxiety if someone opens the door during the
night they'll take my rolly bag the bag I care
least about then if they're still going for my
stuff they'll get my backpack the bag I kind
of care about by then I should be awake and
like getting them before they get to the
one I really care about my handbag [Music]
[Music] it's only the 8:00 got
a nice early teethbrush always
hits well I'm going to do some night time
exploring before we settle in the [Music]
bed that's definitely new I had no idea there
was like a restaurant cart on board there's a
full menu and everything you can order from and
it kind of look and smell good kind of wish I
spoke Vietnamese cuz they look like they were
having a really good time I'm going to try to
back of the train all right I found the second
class sleeper which is the six bunks but I think
I only got to the carriage that was the workmen
people that are on the train where they sleep
and I can't get any further so I couldn't get
through a cing class but it is getting bumpier
jeez apparently some of the cabins
have hot and cold water you could
just like get twoa noodles and cook them yourself
what did you find found the dining car o
and I barely got any shots of it because
every all the workers were like what
are you doing here I but it got super
Rocky on my way back I was like yeah
what's the restaurant car like smells
good that's nice no one spoke any
English yeah and I didn't speak of
vietnames I'm not that hungry anyway we ate dinner
beforehand yeah I didn't think that there'd be a
restaurant car no that's better than you at the
same time the VIP like two sleeper cabins came
in seems like they had a reband we still don't
have roommates but I think it's late enough now
that we're going to turn the lights off try
to get some sleep hopefully not be woken up
immediately I guess unless anything eventful
happens we'll see you in the morning [Music]
[Music]
[Music]
please it's 5:35 and we're getting very
close this whole journey was a private
cabin for us no one came in but every
time we stopped the announcement was so
loud and every time it went off I was like
oh this will be the time someone comes in
and no one ever did we should back up how
are you so energetic cuz trains are fun
[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music]
morning we just got woken up with a very classical
music potentially the Vietnamese Anthem then the
sweet lady came and knocked on the door
and confirmed what we believed to be true
that these sheets do not get switched out they
just get folded up for the next person [Music]
it's a
penguin no thank you and we've officially made it
to dang we were scheduled to arrive at 5:55 and it
is 6:11 now so that's pretty good despite leaving
like half an l l that's not bad they made up
time for sure I would say the bed themselves are
thicker than I remember and I got some pretty good
sleep on them but we woke up every couple of hours
for the announcement of the next stop which was
really loud it genuinely felt like every time
they played it they turned it up a notch like
during the middle of the night I swear it was
the loudest thing I've ever heard there was also
a point where it felt like a washing machine
like it was a really rough I quite like that
though like rocks been to sleep not for me and
we have the cabin all to ourselves every time
the announcement went off that we were stopping at
a new station I was like this is it this is when
someone comes in also I need to invest in some
form of eye mask that has like headphones cuz I
don't like sleeping with my big overe ones but I
sleep better with them and I just had my t-shirt
over my eyes so it was very makeshift anyway
our journey does not stop here we're actually
catching another bus or taxi or something to
Hoy an another couple of hours down the road but
we're not going to film it let's go get a [Music]
coffee we've been in Vietnam for a while now just
zigzagging around the south of the country and
one thing that stuck out to me the entire time
is just how affordable it is I actually decided
to look it up and it is consistently ranked in
the top three most affordable countries
to travel to so to put that to the test
today we have challenged ourselves to spend
$100 exploring the city of hoan in Vietnam we
want to explore the Oldtown eat some food get
a good coffee but you can't count any budget
without including the hotel so our spendable
money is already down to [Music] $75 poan is
split into two areas the ancient Oldtown with
all of the beautiful architecture restaurants
and bars that's where we stayed last year
or 4 km away is the beach and that's where
we're staying this year very relaxing very
stop and drop not as much going on here so
to get into the old town we could either walk
for 50 minutes pay for a grab or not bad yeah
ready yeah you're left or right okay I'm going
okay I'll come with you okay this is so fun
so these bikes cost 70,000 dong each or a$1 140
for both that's about $8.30 Australian leaving
us with like $66 ride should take about 20 25
minutes and we'll be in the Oldtown [Music]
[Music]
these bikes are super old school like they're
reminding me of the bike I used to have at my
grandparents house you pedal and you pedal
and all of a sudden the bike is just going
as fast as it can so your pedals don't matter
anymore you're doing all this effort and it's
not actually paying off it is extremely hot
to today but we have ended up in an area where
we're just surrounded by rice Patty fields
and water buffalo which is so cool I think
it's still like a 10-minute bike until we get
into town though and I cannot wait for a coffee
[Music]
this is so pretty we're officially in
[Music] Oldtown look how you are oh my
goodness that was a brutal riding a lot harder
than I expected but we were stopping all the
time in the sun to like put up the Drone and
get camera shots and yeah it wasn't hard like
it wasn't hilly or anything like that just hot
and sweaty perfectly flat almost the whole way
from here to the beach and then as soon as
we got into town it got so busy it was quite
intimidating so we kind of put the camera away
because we were just focused on Surviving but we
have made it to Oldtown where you can see the
famous architecture and the yellow buildings
here apparently they painted them yellow because
it's meant to be a local tradition of like Royal
and luck and financial benefit but other
people also think that it's mainly to just
keep the temperature down inside which
makes a lot of sense to me what yellow
reflects the heat apparently wow I didn't
know that probably not as good as like white
but yeah it's more aesthetic it looks cool
yeah we've locked the bikes up I think we're
going to have a little walk around town
before we go to our first paid activity
[Music]
for those of you that have seen our videos
in the past you might notice this one looks
a little bit different that's because I
made a very expensive mistake a couple of
days ago and our main lens for our main
camera is not working anymore it's going
to be fine it's in at the shop getting
fixed hopefully right now if it can't
be fixed that's like $2,000 so spend as much
as you want on holiday is what I'm trying to
say we're not counting the camera repair
in the budget because that is unforeseen
accidental circumstances that no one should
feel bad about right I feel bad about [Music]
it love that exploring the town was like a free
Mark for us today but we're on to the next thing
which is not free one of my Fondest Memories from
being in a hoyan the first time was we got to try
egg coffee here and we sat at the cafe for so
long enjoying the coffee and I really want to go
back and have another one but Vietnamese coffee is
extremely strong and where we're going now I think
we're going to have about five of them for the
budget we could have easily gotten a single coffee
each maybe a nice iced coconut coffee for the heat
but because we've been to hoyan before we were on
the lookout for something we have never done and
that's when we came across a coffee making class
so we get to learn how to make Vietnamese
coffee today I think we get five it did blow
out the budget slightly because there was maybe a
mishap with booking we thought we found a cheaper
discount turns out it was an American dollars
not Australian so we paid a little more than we
should have long story short this is costing about
$40 for both of us but I do think lunch is going
to be on the cheaper side Welcome to our coffee
making glass and welcome to our family business
my name is link everybody today my family would
like to show you how to make vietamese coffeee
the first one that is the black coffee and then
white coffee and then the egg coffee saled coffee
and coconut coffee Five Coffee in 2 hours that's
why I recommend you don't ring all of them just
the ring a little or have better because I'm worry
if you finish my cup of the coffee today and you
will fall down here egg coffee is a Vietnamese
classic and one that we were super interested
to learn how to make turns out it's an egg yolk
concoction with a bunch of different sugars and
condensed milk you whip it up and try to pour it
into your mug bloody wind next you take a shot
of strong Vietnamese coffee add it to the mixture
before filling the outside bowl with hot water as
it turns out this helps get rid of that eggy smell
and slowly Cooks the egg mixture and it's probably
no surprise that with all of those sugars this is
delicious you did it's going to blow everywhere
next up we're on to Emily's favorite the
coconut coffee this one felt like a science
experiment me spending you need coconut
cream whipping cream condensed milk and
then it's shaken over ice and poured whip
the black coffee until it becomes nice and
foamy in texture and then add it to the top
delicious okay we kind of lost the filming in
there and we were more focused on the coffee
making course we got to make five different
coffees salt coffee coconut coffee coffee egg
coffee condensed milk coffee and classic black
Vietnamese coffee it was all so much fun my
favorite is definitely coconut coffee but it
was super interesting learning about all of
the history why salt coffee is a thing it's
because Sailors back in the day were making
their way to qu in Vietnam they didn't have
any water so they just used ocean water that
had salt in it and it tasted really good and
it's not just a coffee making course
it is also karaoke party time in there
it was so much fun but now we need to eat OU
literally go go go go go I don't even
know where I'm going back to old to
[Music]
nice oh this is such a nice view so the
ancient old city of hoen is incredible to
drive through the yellow building stand out so
much and it's just like picturesque everywhere
apparently it's 844 UNESCO houses here it's
a mix of French architecture there's like
old wooden Chinese houses and Japanese
shrines it's a really Melting Pot of
cultures which speaks for the food as well a dish
we got here 2 years ago literally sitting on that
River there we literally had it along here that's
so good that's like it is kind of like a cow soy
that's different flavors a little bit less wet
has become one of our top three favorite foods
globally naturally we've come here to get it
again it's 50,000 dong per person which will
end up being about $3 each and brings our budget
down to roughly $16 left so we're not doing too
bad we had to splurge and get cold drinks as well
cuz it is hot today considering our last spending
challenge was a complete fail I think we're going
to have to call this a fail cuz of the weather
I don't know how we spent so much money and got
so many things and yet this is a fail I'm happy
with the fact that we're even getting this close
cuz I think this is already closer than we got in
changai this is cow which is made of thick
rice noodles barbecued pork herbs and crud
and it is delicious it's in this very simple
Savory pork almost gravy with soy sauce and
it is just Divine in its simplicity so the first
record of cow was in the 17th century when Chinese
and Japanese Traders frequented the hoyam port
they brought their own Cuisines with them and it
turned into this dish like Jordan said last time
we were here we absolutely fell in love with this
dish I think we ate it every single day we were in
hoan and we have been dreaming about it ever since
you know when you think about something for way
too long or you look back on something and you're
never really sure if it's going to live up to your
dreams if you were to have it again cuz you could
be looking back with rose-colored glasses or only
at the positives but this tastes just as good as I
remember M are
happy chopsticks
[Music]
going to
the all right we're officially fed I
think it's time we get watered in the old
town so we use this microphone when we're
filming we think it sounds great when it
works but they've got these dials on the back
here the trouble is that these dials don't lock
in so when we were on the bike in hoyen they
got completely changed to zero which means the
rest of our audio sounds like this we ended
up running the audio through an enhancer and
it came out sounding a little bit strange
sometimes we sound like we're underwater
sometimes we sound like elves sometimes we sound
like aliens but to be honest done is better than
perfect okay we made fing rack decision
ruin driving back to so we're going to
and some fishes get fear maybe something to eat
and we broadcast this restaurant that we had a
fear at last time we did so we had to come back
one of our strongest and Fondest Memories is from
this restaurant it was me accidentally being
a bit of an idiot I said it another round but
I said it kind of weirdly I always say it to each
other for the te now some has to come back and get
another house uh fortunately Li is are a bit more
expensive when I remember thing lost every ear was
[Music] Happ we're just didn't sat here
reminiscing of ear year one memories and I
just can't even imagine if we would have found
to us from two years ago we would not believe
that we listed with tring and so on and trying
to be the hon countries which should C go that
if you looking on Bank do really make sense to
set it's making me laugh because we're factual
our own blogging set up because St and drop for w
that we're not going to talk about or think about
because if we have to replace that there's no
way we're going to truth but we have $88 left
and we could just sit here thinking about
all the good turns but instead we're going
to go Sunway and try and spve the rest of that
money that without to in with them FR a beach
and everything happened all at once who would
be and it wouldn't be at without someone trying
to S some to ended up paying 7,000 a deck of f
something we spot this here this spee is for easy
quiet said is
somewhere in the asan sitting just of the
action while this beach is ruin us I think
staying in the old town and I'm here for half
days is OB to get cuz we only had $1 left cup
noodles for [Music] dinner we are about to board
the most expensive overnight train in Vietnam that
we have ever booked Emily's still upset about
the tickets we're not getting any money back in
this video we're going to show you exactly what
the cabin is like rate the amenities on board
and compare this train with the less expensive
counterpart probably a c minus I think I'm still
being nice ending with our final thoughts
on whether this train is worth your money or
not these tickets cost an eye watering $280
Australian dollar and if your first instinct
is to jump into the comments and tell
us that it's cheaper to fly you are 100%
correct but that would have involved flying
to Hanoi and then catching a bus down to
been from there so really we're saving
money and effort attention pleas the
train is about to arrive at theway
station on track one for passengers
with2 9 and 10 I'm so
confused h
not what we expected quite a few initial thoughts
this is essentially exactly what we did last time
we've just paid for four beds instead of the two
like the decor is different all of the pictures
online though these don't exist so you could
sit up quite comfortably whereas this like I
mean I don't know how you're doing it my head's
touching the roof they do go up we're just we're
not allowed to turns out that courage broke down
unexpectedly so this isn't what we booked or paid
for and I said oh should we get like a refund
for the price difference and she's just like no
so please like this video so we can try and make
some of the money back with what we earned from
YouTube at least I'm not going crazy at least
our expectations were correct it's just they've
had a malfunction and like I can forgive that it's
nothing's going to be perfect every time like she
was so apologetic and like please sympathize with
us like it was so it was unexpected breakdown we
didn't anticipate it so it's not their fault I'm
not going to be like oh no fix it so that explains
this but we're going we left exactly on time for
the delay everything's going crazy while Emily
comes to terms with our living situation I'm
going to try and explore the rest of the train
[Music]
and that's it pretty much us and the next three
carriages are very very similar The Branding
changes so you don't have these fluffy white duvet
and pillows you have the standard really really
thin stuff which don't look too comfortable and
then eventually you get to that six birth second
class sleeper as you go down the Train the cool
automatic doors become manual doors and the really
nice fancy looking single bathroom areas become
like dual vanity areas but that's pretty much the
only change I think really the upgrade that we're
getting is all in the service so you can book
this train the se2 train and there's multiple
different carriages you can choose from and
that's because they have like the government run
Vietnam Railway train and then people like the L
Express or the Orient Express or probably
not that one but one of the other expresses
just hit your ride and they they all go together
because our Carriage broke down we're actually
hijacking the lman express so this Carriage is
a totally different company to what we booked
[Music]
okay well Jordan was off exploring I did some
inspections of the room and it seems like it's
pretty basic and pretty similar to what we did
the last time we do have very fluffy and cushy
pillows I think they might have snuck these from
the broken down Carriage because not everyone has
as nice big fluffy ones as this and a huge white
fluffy duvet again I think this was nabbed from
where we were meant to be because not everyone
has something this luxurious everything's pretty
clean the top bunks do have some of that black
soot on it that I think is falling out of the
air event when we sat down we both thought it
felt quite hard and that is because instead
of high quality luxurious mattress like we're
meant to have in the cabin we ordered they've
just stacked two of the cheapy ones on top of each
other again I think they're trying to make do or
make good because of the broken down incident
so I appreciate the effort but it's it's not
uh doing what I think they think it's doing what
else we have a lovely little desk that you can't
really use at all because it has this ornamental
bike on it so you can't actually use it if you
wanted to get some work done you're not going
to get it done here we have an outlet bedside
lamps I think that's it there's plenty of space
for your bags underneath the bottom bunks and
above the door coat hangers little bedside lights
a cute curtains and plants they gave us some mugs
for something they're really trying the biggest
difference of this cabin has got to be the fact
that we can lock the door during the night
because no one else is meant to be coming in
here which we thought they would be last time
which just will give us some peace of mind and
hopefully will mean that we can sleep a little
bit better what's nice is that we booked the SE
2 because it leaves in the afternoon from dang
does get in super early to ninin but it means
we actually get to watch the Vietnam Countryside
go by so I think I'm going to just sit like this
that's pretty nice wow fun yeah something to
be said for getting the afternoon train 100%
get in the afternoon train where you've got
nice bed and you've got a view better [Music]
the room also came with this little green
book and I was flicking through it and got
to read about the cabin where meant to
be in two both compartments with airon
large space luxurious interior design high
quality mattress cotton blankets sheets and
cushions to make Travelers comfortable
this compartment passengers are served
with drinks coffees and meals free of charge
security cameras are installed in the corridor
and internet connection is also provided I'm
not sure if we're going to get any of that
also says the menu that we should be getting
to choose from again I'm not sure if we're
going to get this because it's a different
train well it's the same train but it's a
different Carriage so I don't know I don't know
all right let what the world go by yeah [Music]
super quick toilet to a wall it's not Heap
busy there is a western style toilet it's
so FY I really don't know if you'll be
able to hear me I feel like we're going
through somewhere really creepy it's
really pretty though there's a window
there's not very much to go through it's
not super modern or redone like the photos
of the carriage we meant to be in look like but
it's a toilet that flushes there's toilet paper
a bin the window op so hopefully it doesn't
get too too smelly even in here even though
it's already wo it does feel quite spacious
and that's because there's no sink in here
it's actually on the way back to the carriages
there's a little hand washing station which I
think is a great idea there's also a bum gun I
learned that that's the term for the little hose
thing he did not like us in the
end I tried to ask how much of
coffee was and he just gave them to
us and then he told us and they were
too much what that meant to be included
yeah the book does say they're included
I am very curious what's going to happen with
this book here saying that we're supposed to
get food included coffee drinks we did
actually go to the shop before we got on
board just in case cuz we had
no idea what was going to be
on here so we do have snacks but I hope
we get fed that' be a nice surprise yeah
[Music]
I am pumped up I take back everything negative
we've said I feel like we've been complaining
a little bit but the view news from this train
I was like sticking my head out the window and
getting some shots it is stunning and I know
that's not dependent on what cabin you book
is just the route of the train but having the
comfort of our own room to sit back and look
at this Priceless I feel like you come to
a country to see a country yes it costs a
bit of money but this is such a good way
to see the country no ragrets that's My
Credo no regrets mhm you have no regrets
Dad no like not even a single letter so
yes we could have flown probably cheaper I do
think it would have been quite close because
we have to check in our bags the prices were maybe
$50 difference in the end when we were calculating
it but you do not get this when you fly plus
we get to make a fun video for you and and
have this memory to look back on forever I think
that's worth it honestly if we get served dinner
sitting like this I'm a happy man I mean you can't
do this on a plan without paying thousands of is
[Music]
[Music]
[Music] thought I would put to the test what
having a private room is like in the sense
of what we get out of it so for me if we have
a private room I would assume I can get some
work done on the laptop which I have I would
also assume that I can have my standard hotel
room nighttime routine so we're going to put
that to the test now step one pajamas done I
know you could do this if you had a shared
room like you could just go to the bathroom
and get changed but it's quite nice being able
to just do it in here next we're going to take
off the makeup and I am giving the private room
a little bit of a head start because we're just
going to use this which only requires water so I
could really do this [Music] anywhere I knew that
this as far as silence and noise cancelling
goes it's not great everyone's yelling in the
hallway isn't in their rooms but I knew that
this cabin didn't have a sink in it when we
were coming tonight which is why I packed this
rather than my normal oil cleanser because that
would mean going to the bathroom luckily it
is like a separate hand wash station so it
get points for that just not as many points as
if we had a sink in here cool that is my super
quick nighttime routine on a train if a hotel or
a standard night was a 10 out of 10 I would rank
this probably a five out of 10 not the worst it
could be like sleeping in my makeup but not the
best it could be with a sink in here or an entire
bathroom in here hopefully I'll sleep better with
that though I'm not going to brush my teeth yet
cuz we're still hopeful that we might get dinner
turns out we did get dinner so the little book
has a menu of four or five different options
that you can pick from but she just showed up
with some food so I honestly don't know what
half of it is and peanuts it's room temperature
also room temperature the rice has been warmed
recently I have no idea what this is we are really
grateful we do live really good lives the's not
bad quite salty it's just an expectation
thing like from the get-go we probably
had two high expectations and that's because
of the price of the ticket you pay that much
for a overnight journey in Southeast Asia
you think it's going to be a little bit more
luxurious like but that's E I think as well
because the last train we had it was a cabin
exactly like this and we were alone the entire
night and we paid half the price yeah less than
half and it arguably was a wider cabin yeah this
one feels really tight like between here yeah
really loud guy that goes around selling
drinks and stuff it was only 20,000 dong
for a beer not bad yeah which really is not
bad and also the the massive bow buns that
the woman was selling earlier they were in
the 20,000 too so if you didn't come on here
with any food I'd probably get a beer and a bun
over this all right think it's time we rush our
teeth bathroom update for those that are
interested it's is dirtier there's a sign
that says do not like squat I guess or
stand on the toilet seat and someone has
very obviously ignored that sign I also very
selfishly use the last of the toilet paper
that was currently in there luckily I do still
have a lot with me but I'm hoping it'll also
get replaced also someone had a cigarette in
there and that was it like an entire cigarette
but just on the floor so about a two of 10
just set her alarm for 3:30 everyone says
niman is really beautiful so this should
be worth it such a heavy blanket yeah wow
luxurious actually really nice yeah
yeah ooh this is nice this feel a
lot more luxurious than the last one right night
[Music]
[Applause]
made it's a Ninh Binh yay the early morning's not
fun but the sleep was okay it's 4:18 so we did get
in late but we left late so that makes sense how
did you sleep s really good I think the cold room
combined with the heavy blanket really helped I
think the heavy blanket kind of did most of the
work there I didn't realize how cold it was in the
room until the next morning I picked up the camera
and it was like wet from condensation for me it
was when I took a sip of water and it tasted like
it had come out of the fridge yeah that'll do it
it was a little bit noisy but I slept pretty well
too there's like Windows on the side that you can
pull down and stick your head out I don't know if
you're supposed to but you can and I think people
in our compartment or in our carriage pulled their
window down but didn't realize how to pull it
back up or something so it was open all night and
we had that clatter all night but we were on the
other side of the carriage to that so not too bad
I more meant the people that were like
yelling at midnight that's true I didn't
hear Too Much yelling after I fell asleep
but I would say the Peace of Mind of having
your own door that you can lock was
great Emily's still upset about the
tickets we're not getting any money back we saved
about $8 per ticket booking direct at the train
station and at the time we loved that we thought
that was great but now there's no one that we can
talk to and say Hey you sold us this and we got
this do we get any money back and I think that's
the really big benefit of booking with companies
like one too Asia is you have that middleman to
say what was promised was not delivered is
there anything you can do about it kind of
thing again not to be grumpy not to complain
we got here it was it was a private room just
expectations good morning good morning
I guess the question of is that expensive
train worth it will remain unanswered because
we didn't get it but we' made it to Ninh Binh
our accommodation here has let us check into
a smaller room early before our main room is
ready and it's still like 6:00 in the morning
so that's pretty nice of them haven't seen
any of Ninh Binh yet cuz it was Pitch Black
on the way here all we know is Everyone
likes to ride bikes we see you tomorrow
good morning from the Epic town of Ninh Binh
Vietnam if we're being specific we're actually
in the town of Tam Coc right next to Ninh Binh
Vietnam but it's equally as gorgeous this is
a whole region of Vietnam we completely
missed last time we were here and today
we're exploring it our first activity
starts at 7:00 and it's already [Music]
6:30 are we here too early there's literally no
one here in the shops are all sh
Oh by boat only boat yeah just
boat okay thank you which rout do you
recommend ah okay thank you because of
the high level of the water they've
had to adjust this looks more like
tiet office so there are apparently three
different boat routes that you can take
with all differing number of caves that you
go through or historical sites there's also
a fourth option these days because the water
level is so high they had to change the route
a little bit 250,000 dong per person to get in
the boat they usually wait till they're filled
up with four before they go but because we're
filming and we want to try and fly the Drone
without injuring people we got a whole bur to
ourselves for 1 million dog bye-bye money [Music]
will you read online that this place opens
at 7:00 a.m. and we got here maybe 2 minutes
before and there were already people
inside getting tickets and there are
people ahead of us but we're completely
alone so get here early plus you beat the
Heat this is so romantic
byebye they're all so beautiful apparently the
police are monitoring who's wearing their life
jackets but you can sneakily take them off
for photos if you want I'm not going to lose
you so because of all of the weather recently the
waters are quite High which means that they can't
access some of the caves so instead of having
three routs like they normally is it's one and
everyone is doing it so I'm super glad that
we got here early in the morning when there's
not heaps of people cuz everyone's going in the
same direction like we're not going to split up
off I think the normal routs there's some
that are 3 hours and some that are 1 and
1/2 the route that we're doing today is 2
and 1/2 hours nice there is so many boats
like they are prepped for so many people this
would just be filled when it's busy [Music]
so it seems like during this boat tour
you get to hop off and go through some
little sites and caves I think
that's where we're going next Jack
it thank you I think we made
her on the other side [Music]
cuz there's lights on in the cave that makes
me wonder if that one when the water is lower
you can go through or in all of the boats are
making fun of Jordan cuz when he hops on it
goes I hop on I feel like it was
quite smooth low center of gravity
calm Jordan just hopes for the best Stomps on all
the ladies were laughing at him it was very funny
so these Cliffs around here are built exactly
like how long bay and sometimes this place is
referred to as the how long bay on land it's
old Limestone deposits from millions of years
ago that have just been slowly whittled Away
by wind and rain leaving these just epic Cliff
faces with green growing out of them and
it's just such a Jurassic Park sort of SE
and I can see why it's like one of the biggest
attractions in Vietnam can't believe we missed
it last time one of the biggest benefits of
getting up early and doing this is it's just
really us like there are definitely other boats
on the water but they're so far away that we can't
even hear them all we can hear is our paddles
hitting the water it's so nice it's so romantic
[Music]
[Laughter]
apparently I look like messy we drove drove past
went past a boat full of kids and
they were all yelling out messy
messy I don't see it that photo I kind of get
it dark hair beard messy wow wow we just emerged
from the cave and it's even more Serene like
you can hear even less now I feel bad talking
at this volume yeah seems to so these temples
almost all of them cannot be reached by any
other way got away bug cannot be reached by any
way cannot be reached by anywhere these temples
cannot be reached by so these temples we're going
to I just need you to not laugh once I'm just not
going to cut this I'm going to leave so these
temples that we're going to almost all of them
have only one way to reach them and that is
by boat so kind of feels like we're part of
a select few but at the end of the day there's
thousands of people every day that do this boat
so but with this timing like coming first thing
in the morning it does feel like we're are handful
of people there's no one behind us yeah there's
one boat in front of us how did they build stuff
like this nature did nature built that building
yeah sticks my guns I wonder what these flags
[Music]
are I think it's just your center
of gravity like a cat wow [Music]
[Music]
wow you better go first Cal good
I love that our drivers just kind of wait for us
there and they have like their own little little
friends it's quite nice I feel bad like taking
our driver away from my friends I would love to
speak the local language and hear with the gossip
and being like my people are doing this like these
idiots they're filming themselves that was so
cool something about that Temple reminded me of
Kung Fu Panda I think it's because of the Crazy
Mountains in the background and then just this
intricate astonishing Temple that seems like it's
just been plopped there out of nowhere like the
way that that was built breaks my mind to think
about and to talk about and to talk about this is
crazy wow the echo this is this is our second
cave and it's 250 M long so long that they've
had to put lights in so you can see where you're
going doesn't seem as hectic as the last one like
dodging our heads gosh it's like 10 de cooler in
here as well what a shot that was cool [Music]
[Music]
one thing I wasn't prepared for
is that a lot of the stops the
islands there's a toilet break and
also some little convenience stores
because it's getting hot we've treated
ourselves to an ice cream Breakfast of
Champions so this is only one of two options
when you come to Ninh Binh Vietnam the other
option is actually in Tam Coc where we're
staying and we drove past it on the way here
it seems to be a lot more touristy and
overrun is probably the right word for
it you still lots of really really
good reviews but I've heard that
this one the Trang an boats are meant
to be a lot more Serene and like this
[Music]
for the last 10 minutes or so it's
just been us on the river no other
boats inside it's so Serene and peaceful
tranquil this is a great way to startop
the day I think judging by how many people
there are up here we might be coming to the
end if the numbers on the side of the boat
are to be believed there's over 1,500 1,
yeah is that what you saw 1,554 crazy
and we had bits of the river to just
us so lucky this is also supposed to
be the less touristy one out of this
one and Tempco maybe it's a bigger area or
something cuz that seems crazy oh wow good
without a doubt this has to be the best way to
start your day in nimbin But be sure to come to
the trang an ones bright and early and not the
Tam coock ones I know we haven't done that but
this was Sensational wear sunscreen bring a hat
and maybe wear some bug spray as well because I
have been eaten alive go away bug wouldn't be
a tourist attraction without a forced walkth
through of all the shops you can bus is at
I have a whole case for cabry milk chocolate
crowds are picking up now oh I'm so glad we came
when we did yeah all right let's get something to
eat we were on the hunt for breakfast but as
soon as we came back to our hotel we realized
that we were still early enough to get the
included breakfast and we're on a budget so
we got the included breakfast but now some time
has passed and it is lunch time and we're off to
find something vietnames is so on our way to
get lunch we actually passed the place where
the tancock boats leave from as far as I know the
biggest drawer about it is that people steer with
their feet oh thank you oh this is so needed it's
so hot today we also decided we'd ask the price
just to give you guys information it's 250,000
dong per person to go up and back the same way
but I believe if you pay for two you get a boat
of just two they also have a package it's 350,000
per person that takes you up and back and then
gets you on a boat out to two more shrines and
then back or something like that it's more of
a combined deal and you go through rice Pat
look like this which look really cool but I I
think our is better someone come here and try
this one and then we'll fight about it in the
comments or something anyway we've come to the
restaurant that's right by where those boats
leave to get something that the internet tells
me is very famous here I've decided to get
a dish we haven't ever tried I don't think
in Vietnam called bun cha which I think is
fatty pork over a bed of rice noodles let me
read you what Google says it's a Vietnamese
of grilled pork and noodles which is thought
to have originated from Hanoi Vietnam buncha is
served with grilled fatty pork over a plate of
white rice noodles and herbs with a side dish of
dipping sauce it is on so many signs throughout
Vietnam I feel like I've seen it every second
restaurant has a sign saying we sell banar so
it's been seeping in what's it called like
not osmosis it's that Focus movie where they
show him the number all the time until he has
to do it that's what's happened to me in bun
wow hello hello looks delicious thank [Music]
you yum I don't know how to eat this I'm going
on Fork don't judge me but I actually Googled how
to eat this cuz I knew it came in two parts like
the main dish with lettuce curvs pork and the
noodles and then a separate soup looking thing
from what I understand I can just shove it in
my face and it's fine there's no real rules
I think I'm G to put some noodles in
the soup to get flavor okay and get some
[Music] pork
wow yeah the soup adds like this
flavor Ki to it but the pork is
incredibly juicy and tender but
has this charcoal on the outside
which is one of my favorite flavors is
charcoal of flavor yeah you want to try
yeah oh yeah wow totally get the chal
really it's like falling apart it's
that juicy had one bite so it might
be a bit excessive but I feel like
that goes with my personality
new favorite food in [Music]
Vietnam is that how you
how do you than you I like a new Vietnamese word
I said that wrong for sure it's easier when you're
copying someone straight after what does it mean
oh delicious I don't know why this is the thing
to eat when you come to Ninh Binh but most places
say online that you have to get some sort of goat
meat I did read that the traditional thing is
goat blood soup I'm just I'm not I'm not quite
there yet with my cultural eating so I just got
the goat meat on a skewer with some french fries
tourist very gy which are I think a standard
when it comes to goat meat but they've got
like little Sesame Seas on top and the flavor
is got a little bit of spice a little bit of
Tang to it it's actually quite nice I think
you'd like it great that's grabing that was
so impressive was it you just say yum yum it is
Yum Yum okay it's like lemongrass or something
on top quite good but I definitely prefer
mine that was delicious I feel like Emily
liked hers more than I like mine but I
still liked mine so that just goes to
show pretty good place anyway we have
one more big adventure to do in Ninh Binh
but that starts tomorrow tomorrow [Music]
everywhere we've been in Vietnam everyone
has been up really early like way before
us even when we're trying to get up early so we
assume we'd have no problem getting a ride just
before Sunset but there's been no taxis at
all so we've walked into town keep tricking
grab and these other apps to get rides and
finally we got one apparently he's on his way
[Music] thank you it's almost 6:00 a.m. and
we've come into the ticket office it cost
100,000 Vietnamese Dong per person entry but
just after the ticket office there's a hotel
that you could stay at I quickly looked at
booking.com and the prices aren't crazy and
this would be such a fun place to stay
plus you could wake up super early and
walk up here before anyone's probably even at
the ticket office Google does claim that this
place opens at 8:00 a.m. I just happened
to read a couple of blog posts that said
6 we were here before then and we got in
so who knows [Music] [Applause] [Music]
ohly freak that was hot and sweaty it only took
us 20 minutes but the steps are like some of them
are huge first of all they're all very uneven
because it's rock and it I am so grateful we
came here first thing in the morning cuz I'm
so sweaty imagine if this is the middle of the
day in the Heat and with all of the other people
cuz we're up here alone so worth the early wake
[Music] up please excuse my intense sweat
there's one side done we're now going to
the other side where the dragon is if
you come here I feel like when there's
a fork in the steps you should go
left the dragon and then like the
fields between the cliffs out from that
side looks Schmick and come to this side
after the amount of business this place would
get if it was open and when it does open is
unreal they actually have a zip line so they can
get all their goods down and up without having
to carry it all the way very smart I literally
feel like I'm in a SAA I'm sweating that much
feel like if Barham still had a circus I could be
world's sweatiest man it's actually like dripping
off it's disgusting sorry about this but we
got to keep it real I guess I think we've
made it to the top of the other side there's a
section you can walk near the dragon step but
as we were coming up we passed some people and
I said please tell me it's worth it and she just
went I do think these views
are pretty spectacular [Music]
[Music]
[Applause] [Music]
we've been here for a bit over an hour now
yeah hour and a half hour and a half yeah
I'm bad and we've only seen a handful of
other people make sure you're setting your
alarms for 5:00 this place opens at 5:00
a.m. if you check on Google it will tell
you 8:00 a.m. that's that's a lie I don't
know someone just hasn't updated it maybe
after Co yet but please don't update it
let's keep it between us so that people
watching this video can also have it this alone
cuz it's Majestic it is I will say the boats
were better views and less sweat but also more
expensive much more expensive little column a
little column B can't believe we missed n bin
last time I know I'm so grateful we came back
we are still missing things here like some of
the pagodas and awesome sites but we literally
have to go back to Hanoi this afternoon so end the
video okay let's go get a cold drink please please
