Geez mom, just leave me alone! 00:00
Assalamualaikum wbt and good day to everyone 00:04
My name is Tengku Ruqayyah Bt Tengku Shahrom 00:08
and today I would like to talk about Generation Gap In Family 00:10
What is Generation Gap? 00:14
Generation gap is the differences between people in terms of their views , opinions and life style 00:16
mainly due to the difference in the generation they belong to 00:21
In the case of a family, this happens between children and parents 00:24
According to several schools of psychology, 00:29
there are several stages in development of individuals, especially children 00:31
Each stage has its own set of challenges and preoccupations 00:35
As parents and children are in different development stages, 00:39
they have different preoccupations and different objectives 00:42
Thus, the generation gap is universal. It is just the difference in world views 00:44
So this is the main root cause of relationship issues between teenagers and their parents 00:49
How does this impact their relationship? 00:55
You know without a good communication, then it will eventually lead to break up of relationships 00:56
and also lack of communication and also eventually lead to miscommunication 01:03
between the parents and the children 01:07
So the impact is it could actually alienate 01:08
and further make the relationship between different generation become widen 01:11
and therefore a lot of misunderstanding, relationship become weaker 01:19
and into the point that they might just break the relationship 01:25
Children tend to stay away from parents, 01:29
they rather solved their problem with their friends rather than talk their problems with their parents 01:32
because parents don’t understand them, and they don’t want their parents to understand 01:43
and the parents don’t want to understand them 01:50
So how can we reduce the generation gap? 01:52
Whatever problem we have to solve, try to solve it together 01:55
So parents have to treat children like friends 02:01
and children should not avoid parents 02:06
because parents are more experienced, 02:09
parents wants the best for their children 02:12
So children should go to the parents if there are problems 02:16
By learning or putting in a bit of effort 02:20
to understand what the younger generation 02:25
is experiencing at the particular situation 02:28
We must not make simple comparisons life 02:31
because most things in life are not just pure black and white 02:34
Thus we cannot make generalizations based on simple comparisons only 02:37
In a nutshell, everything which young ones encounter 02:42
is result of things which older ones did 02:44
And, actions of these young ones 02:47
will define things for the next generation of the young 02:48
Last but not least, just have a healthy discussions about your opinions on life 02:51
and agree to disagree if required. 02:55
