last year I made $3.3 million and this 00:00
is my 2023 tax report that I'm going to 00:02
break down with you it's insane it's 00:05
insane to even say that number out loud 00:07
it feels surreal I'm like who are we 00:08
talking about I want to go into detail 00:10
on my income streams personal expenses 00:13
business overhead some Tax Strategies 00:15
and the overall reality of what it feels 00:17
like to make $3.3 million so that you 00:19
can do it too it still feels crazy to 00:21
say this but when I think about my 00:23
journey of my 9 to5 jobs building 00:24
multiple businesses tons of business 00:27
failures strategic Investments bad 00:29
Investments that got me to this point 00:31
makes me smile like I made it but I'm 00:34
not making this video to brag I didn't 00:36
have some special VIP Lane to get to 00:37
this point and I would say for a long 00:40
time it felt like everything that I got 00:41
close to was taken from me Google job 00:43
Microsoft job Facebook job mint exit I'm 00:46
making this video to inspire you and 00:49
show yall what is possible if you go 00:51
down the path of Entrepreneurship 00:53
because there is no better return than 00:54
on the investment of yourself and 00:56
Entrepreneurship you can make three .3 00:58
million or more let's break it down my 01:00
first year I made nothing from appsumo 01:03
even though we generated $300,000 in 01:05
Revenue all of it went back into the 01:07
business or hiring people and so forth I 01:09
just wanted to make $3,000 a month so I 01:12
could work on the beaches of Thailand 01:15
that is all I wanted I could live I 01:17
could eat and I could save a little bit 01:19
to live my dream life doing work that I 01:20
wanted to do I was able to stick with 01:22
the business for 15 years to be able to 01:24
get to this point where I took home $3.3 01:27
million now but I don't actually have 01:29
$3.3 million in cash let's just say 01:30
right here and we're going to talk about 01:32
taxes we're going to talk about expenses 01:34
uh and things of that nature but it's 01:36
been it's been a long fun Journey could 01:38
I ever imagine making this amount of 01:40
money no but it's sure as hell sweet and 01:42
you can do it too so let's do a revenue 01:45
breakdown show me the money show me the 01:46
money Jerry you guys are way too young 01:48
to know about that 01:50
movie show me the money so first off I 01:51
made $1.7 million in my W2 salaried 01:55
income from appsumo it's not as 01:59
straightforward as that my base salary 02:00
is 250,000 which is really good now only 02:02
if we have profit at the end of the year 02:06
do I get a distribution and so we pay 02:08
everyone in the team we pay the 02:10
leadership team we take everyone all 02:11
expenses paid to Mexico we invest in ads 02:13
we buy servers and then if there's stuff 02:15
left me and my partner Chad get a 02:17
distribution and so my distribution was 02:18
around $1.5 million now next up I get a 02:20
million dollar from appsumo to sponsor 02:24
all the content you're seeing here on 02:27
YouTube so that's another million now 02:29
the other $600,000 that I made last year 02:31
is a combination of real estate equities 02:34
and some distributions from Investments 02:37
I don't think it's as important in this 02:39
video I think if you look at the numbers 02:40
like the majority 80% is from 02:42
entrepreneurship so we'll we'll focus a 02:44
little bit more on that so that's where 02:45
the $3.3 million comes from now the 02:47
revenue streams have been interesting 02:50
appsumo money is all over the place 02:52
right so what does that mean in 02:55
2021 I made 97 ,000 so that's that's a 02:57
big decrease from the almost $3 million 03:01
that I got last year uh from appsumo so 03:03
what happened Co happened a lot of bad 03:06
decisions happened we hired a lot of 03:08
people we spent a million dollars on 03:10
Black Friday marketing which was a total 03:12
waste and it was my idea I would say the 03:13
maintainance is more of a thought about 03:15
opportunity cost and what is the best 03:17
use of your life for generating Revenue 03:18
doing what you want to do I I've noticed 03:21
with the real estate stuff you can get a 03:23
5% return a year on this real estate or 03:25
maybe it appreciates 10% ABS suumo 03:27
started with $50 and I was able to 03:29
generate almost $3 million cash for 03:31
myself and I'm not taking as much as I 03:33
can and and I don't say that arrogantly 03:35
I could definitely take more but I think 03:37
I'm taking a pretty great amount uh and 03:38
everybody else at the company is doing 03:41
well whereas in real estate a lot of 03:42
that stuff is capped all right expenses 03:44
break down the number one expense you 03:46
guys can all guess it it is Mr 03:48
government a lady would never be so rude 03:50
taxes number one that's 40% of around 3 03:52
million so that's $112 million just in 03:55
taxes then I have half a million dollars 03:58
in the team cost I told you appsumo 04:01
sponsors into an LLC that all the money 04:03
that takes to run this YouTube channel 04:06
or my email list at noah.com or all the 04:07
social content that's 04:10
$500,000 a year so now you're like holy 04:11
[ __ ] so that 3.3 is now down to about 04:14
1.5 then this house I live in a $2.5 04:16
million house this house alone without 04:19
water without internet without the 04:21
cleaner without the gardener without the 04:23
pool person uh is $120,000 a year the 04:24
costs add up you have insurance costs 04:28
for when you get to different levels of 04:31
wealth you have umbrella insurance so I 04:32
have insurance that covers if someone 04:34
trips in my house right there's there's 04:36
more costs for that that go up I have a 04:38
wealth adviser that's in the five 04:40
figures a year I have a personal 04:42
bookkeeper that's another five figureure 04:44
expense a year I would say that there 04:46
definitely a significant amount of 04:47
expenses that just go up uh when you 04:50
start making more money and and you want 04:52
to have more conveniences and comfort uh 04:53
it makes me feel sad and and really 04:56
tough for a lot of people people out 04:59
there but it also makes me feel 05:00
optimistic that through entrepreneurship 05:01
and through starting your own businesses 05:03
there's no cap to your income there is 05:04
unlimited income for entrepreneurship 05:06
whereas in a salary job it it can be 05:08
limited taxes uh so I put out a book 05:10
maybe we'll make it free for this video 05:13
how do I approach tax optimization my 05:14
tax liability in 2022 was 300,000 my tax 05:17
in 2021 was 1.1 million I think 05:22
government's inefficient so I'm not as 05:26
excited to give them my money I'd give 05:28
it to private businesses when I had more 05:29
free time I was doing a lot of tax 05:31
optimization so conservation easements 05:33
it's when you buy land and then you say 05:35
you're not going to build on it and the 05:38
government gives you a tax credit and 05:39
then I did Art donation so you buy art 05:41
you donate it somewhere you get another 05:43
tax credit those are little gray zones 05:44
uh there's new ones that I've considered 05:47
which is like uh box options Boxx so if 05:50
you buy t- bills you get taxed at 05:53
ordinary income but if you buy box 05:55
spread you can get taxed at a lower 05:57
income rate rate other ones I've 05:59
considered is Energy Credit buying so 06:00
you can buy energy credits today yes 06:03
look that up you can buy them for 80 but 06:05
you get $100 worth of tax credit so you 06:06
get a 20% uh discount on your taxes now 06:09
I just don't have time for all that 06:11
stuff you know I'm married I'm trying to 06:12
do be a good father good be a good 06:14
husband I'm trying to make sure I have 06:15
time to do this content run app suumo 06:17
and the amount of money I'm saving to me 06:19
doesn't seem worth it but there's tax 06:20
strategists out there I think in my 06:22
personal life and this is a f 06:24
fascinating point in my personal life I 06:25
don't really have budgets which is is 06:28
luxury I don't have a lot of modeling or 06:29
how am I trying to retire and these 06:32
certain things cuz I just have so much 06:33
money honestly and I don't mean that 06:35
bragging but you can get to that point 06:36
too whereas in our business at appsumo 06:38
we have models and budgets and a whole 06:40
team dedicated to every single penny and 06:42
I like the fact that I can not have to 06:44
worry about that or have to figure out 06:46
how to optimize my taxes with you know 06:47
more questionable activities I don't 06:50
know I guess I'm rich I never thought 06:52
I'm I'm a rich person or not a rich 06:54
person I I think what I I try to think 06:55
about is like when I'm at the restaurant 06:57
just treating everyone equ and I will 06:58
say there are times candidly where I 07:00
might go on YouTube and I look and 07:02
they're like here's what top 1% make and 07:03
I go there and it makes me feel worthy 07:06
when I feel like wow I'm making in the 07:08
in the top 1% cuz I think I've felt So 07:10
Unworthy in this whole journey for so 07:12
long like oh I don't think I'll be able 07:14
to do it how do I finally make money I'm 07:16
going to ruin it all and so it is it is 07:18
a form of of comfort I think what I'm 07:20
thinking about is like how much do I 07:22
really need and what do I really want to 07:23
spend my days doing and I think this is 07:24
kind of the counterintuitive thing about 07:26
entrepreneurship whereas if you actually 07:28
do the thing you really like doing and 07:29
you you keep getting better over a long 07:31
period of time you'll actually end up 07:33
making the most amount of money so I'm 07:35
really trying to dial back in less how 07:36
do I get more views here how do I get 07:38
more Revenue there just like what do I 07:40
think is good for me what do I think is 07:42
good for our customers good for the 07:43
audience good for our team and we enjoy 07:44
and I think that will benefit uh a lot 07:46
of people down a longer period of time 07:48
the way that I thought about my finances 07:50
and you know personal spending is that I 07:52
want to basically have like enough cash 07:54
I want to have enough cash to live 07:56
forever and so I did analysis with uh 07:57
with my wealth managers and I basically 08:00
never have to make another dollar and I 08:03
can spend 20,000 a month until I'm 90 08:04
and that that actually gave me that was 08:07
really relieving think about for 08:08
yourself like what is your spending 08:09
habits and then if you mapped it out to 08:11
90 you know I think there's a great book 08:13
die with zero by Bill Perkins and he's 08:14
talking about like don't spend it at 90 08:16
when you can't really enjoy it as much 08:18
as you can enjoy it today and so really 08:19
finding that right balance where can you 08:21
save yourself time can you pay for 08:23
convenience can you enjoy the experience 08:24
now whereas when you're 65 retired 08:26
finally being able to tap into your 401k 08:28
you really physically can't do stuff 08:31
like my back is hurting I'm 42 you know 08:32
like I have to go to physical therapy 08:34
and all [ __ ] and it's like oh man this 08:36
is what they talk about and when you're 08:38
when you are younger you don't give a 08:39
[ __ ] about it when you are older you're 08:40
like oh I should have spent it then so 08:42
thinking about our my priorities in my 08:44
personal spending getting out of the tax 08:46
stuff it's easy for me to gift give I 08:47
think that was my dad's love language 08:49
and uh I love like spoiling my wife I'm 08:51
excited to get my daughter the nicest 08:54
things possible I'm happy to treat my 08:56
brother to things take my I took my 08:58
parents on a nice vacation last year I 09:00
think I'm still value conscious right 09:02
I'm still like oh that those glasses are 09:04
10 bucks or let me try to find a coupon 09:06
just more now I'm more aware of how much 09:08
time I'm spending looking for that 09:09
discount like heck think about it I got 09:11
most of my money from a deal website 09:12
check it out abs.com I love saving money 09:14
I I love being value driven uh it 09:16
doesn't mean I want to just go waste it 09:19
what areas am I willing to splurge I 09:20
probably Splurge more on hiring people 09:22
right cuz I think I run a company we 09:25
have 100 people there and so I'm kind of 09:26
used to hiring and and having people 09:27
help me so like an EA Two Chiefs of 09:29
Staff I'm trying to get a PA you know 09:31
just having more assistance I I'm 09:34
willing to spend because it saves me 09:35
time and and peace of mind I I think 09:37
food I'm not really splurging but I 09:39
don't really look at the menus as much 09:40
technology like I just buy the latest 09:43
laptop I don't even think I literally if 09:45
there's a new Macbook Air it's instab 09:46
maxed out it's like $3,000 and I know 09:48
that could be a lot for you but that's 09:50
literally the cheapest investment in 09:51
something that can generate Millions if 09:53
not billions I do fly mostly first class 09:54
but I use points so I I feel like when 09:57
people Flex fly first class like using 09:58
points yeah spend this $8,000 on a 10:00
ticket and you'll you'll say think 10:02
differently cuz it is it is a lot of 10:03
cash to fly first class I splurge 10:04
sporadically on Rolexes to commemorate 10:06
moments like when my buddy sold his 10:08
company when my buddy got his house when 10:10
I got my wife you know it's just moments 10:13
to kind of recognize that that makes me 10:15
feel special when I got my pilot's 10:16
license when I came back to CEO of 10:17
appsumo and you know you'll see them in 10:19
some of the videos and it's just a nice 10:21
like you know wrist tattoo there's also 10:23
things I just don't care about like I 10:25
don't have a Ferrari I could buy 10:26
Ferraris I could buy some of that stuff 10:28
I haven't really cared I think one of 10:30
the things about wealth is shame and 10:31
feeling like we have to show off which 10:33
most people who are showing it don't 10:35
have it or we need to show it to others 10:36
versus showing it to ourselves I'm 10:38
trying to think of when I finally got 10:40
like a Million Dollar Payday at the end 10:41
of the year it's definitely 10:43
underwhelming from an external success 10:44
blah blah blah it's super cool but it 10:47
just goes to the bank it's like I worked 10:48
my ass off I'm really proud of my stuff 10:50
and then like the numbers transferred to 10:51
here and I'm like that's okay so I don't 10:53
think that that's as magical as I think 10:55
people imagine I think the magical part 10:57
is finding the work that you love to do 10:58
and it turns out maybe you can get paid 11:00
to do that and I think a lot of people 11:02
don't realize that you know no amount of 11:03
money is going to make you feel good 11:05
about yourself I really wish it would 11:06
I'll tell you making a lot of money 11:08
definitely makes it easier to like 11:10
yourself more but it just doesn't you 11:12
know you're not going to feel worthy 11:14
until you feel worthy about yourself and 11:15
think about the things you do that make 11:16
you feel worthy maybe it's going for a 11:17
walk maybe it's reading maybe it's being 11:18
a good person maybe it's falling through 11:20
and making something you said you would 11:21
do maybe it's being on time uh those are 11:23
things that make me feel worthy maybe 11:25
that's a lot of what the money is about 11:26
is just feeling proud of you are and 11:28
that is the scorecard externally but 11:29
finding your internal scorecard of this 11:30
money I think everyone has a money 11:32
relationship which is really fascinating 11:34
it's not that one is better or worse and 11:37
and evolves over time evolves how much 11:38
you have it evolves what's important to 11:40
you uh evolves how where you came from I 11:42
think it's sad sometimes how much we 11:45
make money this all everything and maybe 11:46
yes I have it a little bit of it or I 11:49
have a lot I don't know it's all 11:51
relative but it just seems sad to like 11:52
separate relationships or separate 11:54
friendships or separate how you want to 11:55
be living your life and I would say the 11:57
wisest thing is find the life you want 11:59
to live and find money to be able to 12:01
support that make that your living I 12:02
think when I look around my house or I 12:05
look around my life you know detached 12:06
from the success externally detached 12:08
from having to achieve I feel really 12:10
grateful I know that I was playing 12:12
pinball earlier today but I was always 12:13
earning and making money but I never 12:15
enjoyed it I was just like you know and 12:17
I think a lot of these videos are like 12:19
how I got rich in 40 days how I have 12:20
this giant mansion ass thing but it's 12:22
like how do people enjoy it normally 12:23
like a normal real human I wish everyone 12:25
gets out there and is living the life 12:28
they want making the amount they want 12:30
seeing how money supports you not you 12:31
just working for the money the money 12:33
needs to work for you I think being 12:35
entrepreneur has been an awesome part of 12:36
making money because I think you look at 12:38
money a lot as return on investment like 12:39
when you're entrepreneur you're like how 12:42
much does it cost what does it make me 12:43
and that is sometimes harder when you're 12:44
in your personal life cuz you're like 12:46
okay what's this vegetable and how much 12:48
is it going to benefit my health really 12:49
stick with it you know like if you look 12:51
at the appsumo journey I made almost Z 12:52
for myself first year I think it's 50 to 12:55
70 the second year then it was like 100 12:57
for the next 3 to 4ish years and then 12:59
only finally in like the last you know 13:01
half of appsumo the past like six seven 13:03
years have I been making like 1 million 13:05
2 million 3 million and so it's it's 13:07
sticking with it I feel comfortable 13:09
experimenting sharing my income and if 13:11
negative things and security risk 13:12
increase then I will definitely pull 13:14
back from doing something like this the 13:15
the benefit to me is that I think it's 13:18
inspiring that people there's going to 13:19
be one person out there watching 13:20
thinking hey I can do it too maybe it's 13:22
going to be in software like Noah did 13:24
with appsumo maybe it's going to be in 13:25
car washes maybe it's going to be a food 13:27
delivery business but huh that seems 13:29
like a pretty cool life and like there's 13:31
and it is you know buying whatever 13:32
pinball machines you want or being able 13:34
to eat wherever you want or travel 13:36
whenever you want and and having those 13:37
options is is priceless and so being 13:38
able to share how I was able to get here 13:41
be able to share what it looks like it's 13:43
been amazing to get to to the point I'm 13:45
at and I I hope for you there's going to 13:47
be one of you out there that that'll 13:49
choose to take action today uh to be 13:50
able to get there and maybe beyond all 13:53
right y'all love you smooches 13:55

[English]
last year I made $3.3 million and this
is my 2023 tax report that I'm going to
break down with you it's insane it's
insane to even say that number out loud
it feels surreal I'm like who are we
talking about I want to go into detail
on my income streams personal expenses
business overhead some Tax Strategies
and the overall reality of what it feels
like to make $3.3 million so that you
can do it too it still feels crazy to
say this but when I think about my
journey of my 9 to5 jobs building
multiple businesses tons of business
failures strategic Investments bad
Investments that got me to this point
makes me smile like I made it but I'm
not making this video to brag I didn't
have some special VIP Lane to get to
this point and I would say for a long
time it felt like everything that I got
close to was taken from me Google job
Microsoft job Facebook job mint exit I'm
making this video to inspire you and
show yall what is possible if you go
down the path of Entrepreneurship
because there is no better return than
on the investment of yourself and
Entrepreneurship you can make three .3
million or more let's break it down my
first year I made nothing from appsumo
even though we generated $300,000 in
Revenue all of it went back into the
business or hiring people and so forth I
just wanted to make $3,000 a month so I
could work on the beaches of Thailand
that is all I wanted I could live I
could eat and I could save a little bit
to live my dream life doing work that I
wanted to do I was able to stick with
the business for 15 years to be able to
get to this point where I took home $3.3
million now but I don't actually have
$3.3 million in cash let's just say
right here and we're going to talk about
taxes we're going to talk about expenses
uh and things of that nature but it's
been it's been a long fun Journey could
I ever imagine making this amount of
money no but it's sure as hell sweet and
you can do it too so let's do a revenue
breakdown show me the money show me the
money Jerry you guys are way too young
to know about that
movie show me the money so first off I
made $1.7 million in my W2 salaried
income from appsumo it's not as
straightforward as that my base salary
is 250,000 which is really good now only
if we have profit at the end of the year
do I get a distribution and so we pay
everyone in the team we pay the
leadership team we take everyone all
expenses paid to Mexico we invest in ads
we buy servers and then if there's stuff
left me and my partner Chad get a
distribution and so my distribution was
around $1.5 million now next up I get a
million dollar from appsumo to sponsor
all the content you're seeing here on
YouTube so that's another million now
the other $600,000 that I made last year
is a combination of real estate equities
and some distributions from Investments
I don't think it's as important in this
video I think if you look at the numbers
like the majority 80% is from
entrepreneurship so we'll we'll focus a
little bit more on that so that's where
the $3.3 million comes from now the
revenue streams have been interesting
appsumo money is all over the place
right so what does that mean in
2021 I made 97 ,000 so that's that's a
big decrease from the almost $3 million
that I got last year uh from appsumo so
what happened Co happened a lot of bad
decisions happened we hired a lot of
people we spent a million dollars on
Black Friday marketing which was a total
waste and it was my idea I would say the
maintainance is more of a thought about
opportunity cost and what is the best
use of your life for generating Revenue
doing what you want to do I I've noticed
with the real estate stuff you can get a
5% return a year on this real estate or
maybe it appreciates 10% ABS suumo
started with $50 and I was able to
generate almost $3 million cash for
myself and I'm not taking as much as I
can and and I don't say that arrogantly
I could definitely take more but I think
I'm taking a pretty great amount uh and
everybody else at the company is doing
well whereas in real estate a lot of
that stuff is capped all right expenses
break down the number one expense you
guys can all guess it it is Mr
government a lady would never be so rude
taxes number one that's 40% of around 3
million so that's $112 million just in
taxes then I have half a million dollars
in the team cost I told you appsumo
sponsors into an LLC that all the money
that takes to run this YouTube channel
or my email list at noah.com or all the
social content that's
$500,000 a year so now you're like holy
[ __ ] so that 3.3 is now down to about
1.5 then this house I live in a $2.5
million house this house alone without
water without internet without the
cleaner without the gardener without the
pool person uh is $120,000 a year the
costs add up you have insurance costs
for when you get to different levels of
wealth you have umbrella insurance so I
have insurance that covers if someone
trips in my house right there's there's
more costs for that that go up I have a
wealth adviser that's in the five
figures a year I have a personal
bookkeeper that's another five figureure
expense a year I would say that there
definitely a significant amount of
expenses that just go up uh when you
start making more money and and you want
to have more conveniences and comfort uh
it makes me feel sad and and really
tough for a lot of people people out
there but it also makes me feel
optimistic that through entrepreneurship
and through starting your own businesses
there's no cap to your income there is
unlimited income for entrepreneurship
whereas in a salary job it it can be
limited taxes uh so I put out a book
maybe we'll make it free for this video
how do I approach tax optimization my
tax liability in 2022 was 300,000 my tax
in 2021 was 1.1 million I think
government's inefficient so I'm not as
excited to give them my money I'd give
it to private businesses when I had more
free time I was doing a lot of tax
optimization so conservation easements
it's when you buy land and then you say
you're not going to build on it and the
government gives you a tax credit and
then I did Art donation so you buy art
you donate it somewhere you get another
tax credit those are little gray zones
uh there's new ones that I've considered
which is like uh box options Boxx so if
you buy t- bills you get taxed at
ordinary income but if you buy box
spread you can get taxed at a lower
income rate rate other ones I've
considered is Energy Credit buying so
you can buy energy credits today yes
look that up you can buy them for 80 but
you get $100 worth of tax credit so you
get a 20% uh discount on your taxes now
I just don't have time for all that
stuff you know I'm married I'm trying to
do be a good father good be a good
husband I'm trying to make sure I have
time to do this content run app suumo
and the amount of money I'm saving to me
doesn't seem worth it but there's tax
strategists out there I think in my
personal life and this is a f
fascinating point in my personal life I
don't really have budgets which is is
luxury I don't have a lot of modeling or
how am I trying to retire and these
certain things cuz I just have so much
money honestly and I don't mean that
bragging but you can get to that point
too whereas in our business at appsumo
we have models and budgets and a whole
team dedicated to every single penny and
I like the fact that I can not have to
worry about that or have to figure out
how to optimize my taxes with you know
more questionable activities I don't
know I guess I'm rich I never thought
I'm I'm a rich person or not a rich
person I I think what I I try to think
about is like when I'm at the restaurant
just treating everyone equ and I will
say there are times candidly where I
might go on YouTube and I look and
they're like here's what top 1% make and
I go there and it makes me feel worthy
when I feel like wow I'm making in the
in the top 1% cuz I think I've felt So
Unworthy in this whole journey for so
long like oh I don't think I'll be able
to do it how do I finally make money I'm
going to ruin it all and so it is it is
a form of of comfort I think what I'm
thinking about is like how much do I
really need and what do I really want to
spend my days doing and I think this is
kind of the counterintuitive thing about
entrepreneurship whereas if you actually
do the thing you really like doing and
you you keep getting better over a long
period of time you'll actually end up
making the most amount of money so I'm
really trying to dial back in less how
do I get more views here how do I get
more Revenue there just like what do I
think is good for me what do I think is
good for our customers good for the
audience good for our team and we enjoy
and I think that will benefit uh a lot
of people down a longer period of time
the way that I thought about my finances
and you know personal spending is that I
want to basically have like enough cash
I want to have enough cash to live
forever and so I did analysis with uh
with my wealth managers and I basically
never have to make another dollar and I
can spend 20,000 a month until I'm 90
and that that actually gave me that was
really relieving think about for
yourself like what is your spending
habits and then if you mapped it out to
90 you know I think there's a great book
die with zero by Bill Perkins and he's
talking about like don't spend it at 90
when you can't really enjoy it as much
as you can enjoy it today and so really
finding that right balance where can you
save yourself time can you pay for
convenience can you enjoy the experience
now whereas when you're 65 retired
finally being able to tap into your 401k
you really physically can't do stuff
like my back is hurting I'm 42 you know
like I have to go to physical therapy
and all [ __ ] and it's like oh man this
is what they talk about and when you're
when you are younger you don't give a
[ __ ] about it when you are older you're
like oh I should have spent it then so
thinking about our my priorities in my
personal spending getting out of the tax
stuff it's easy for me to gift give I
think that was my dad's love language
and uh I love like spoiling my wife I'm
excited to get my daughter the nicest
things possible I'm happy to treat my
brother to things take my I took my
parents on a nice vacation last year I
think I'm still value conscious right
I'm still like oh that those glasses are
10 bucks or let me try to find a coupon
just more now I'm more aware of how much
time I'm spending looking for that
discount like heck think about it I got
most of my money from a deal website
check it out abs.com I love saving money
I I love being value driven uh it
doesn't mean I want to just go waste it
what areas am I willing to splurge I
probably Splurge more on hiring people
right cuz I think I run a company we
have 100 people there and so I'm kind of
used to hiring and and having people
help me so like an EA Two Chiefs of
Staff I'm trying to get a PA you know
just having more assistance I I'm
willing to spend because it saves me
time and and peace of mind I I think
food I'm not really splurging but I
don't really look at the menus as much
technology like I just buy the latest
laptop I don't even think I literally if
there's a new Macbook Air it's instab
maxed out it's like $3,000 and I know
that could be a lot for you but that's
literally the cheapest investment in
something that can generate Millions if
not billions I do fly mostly first class
but I use points so I I feel like when
people Flex fly first class like using
points yeah spend this $8,000 on a
ticket and you'll you'll say think
differently cuz it is it is a lot of
cash to fly first class I splurge
sporadically on Rolexes to commemorate
moments like when my buddy sold his
company when my buddy got his house when
I got my wife you know it's just moments
to kind of recognize that that makes me
feel special when I got my pilot's
license when I came back to CEO of
appsumo and you know you'll see them in
some of the videos and it's just a nice
like you know wrist tattoo there's also
things I just don't care about like I
don't have a Ferrari I could buy
Ferraris I could buy some of that stuff
I haven't really cared I think one of
the things about wealth is shame and
feeling like we have to show off which
most people who are showing it don't
have it or we need to show it to others
versus showing it to ourselves I'm
trying to think of when I finally got
like a Million Dollar Payday at the end
of the year it's definitely
underwhelming from an external success
blah blah blah it's super cool but it
just goes to the bank it's like I worked
my ass off I'm really proud of my stuff
and then like the numbers transferred to
here and I'm like that's okay so I don't
think that that's as magical as I think
people imagine I think the magical part
is finding the work that you love to do
and it turns out maybe you can get paid
to do that and I think a lot of people
don't realize that you know no amount of
money is going to make you feel good
about yourself I really wish it would
I'll tell you making a lot of money
definitely makes it easier to like
yourself more but it just doesn't you
know you're not going to feel worthy
until you feel worthy about yourself and
think about the things you do that make
you feel worthy maybe it's going for a
walk maybe it's reading maybe it's being
a good person maybe it's falling through
and making something you said you would
do maybe it's being on time uh those are
things that make me feel worthy maybe
that's a lot of what the money is about
is just feeling proud of you are and
that is the scorecard externally but
finding your internal scorecard of this
money I think everyone has a money
relationship which is really fascinating
it's not that one is better or worse and
and evolves over time evolves how much
you have it evolves what's important to
you uh evolves how where you came from I
think it's sad sometimes how much we
make money this all everything and maybe
yes I have it a little bit of it or I
have a lot I don't know it's all
relative but it just seems sad to like
separate relationships or separate
friendships or separate how you want to
be living your life and I would say the
wisest thing is find the life you want
to live and find money to be able to
support that make that your living I
think when I look around my house or I
look around my life you know detached
from the success externally detached
from having to achieve I feel really
grateful I know that I was playing
pinball earlier today but I was always
earning and making money but I never
enjoyed it I was just like you know and
I think a lot of these videos are like
how I got rich in 40 days how I have
this giant mansion ass thing but it's
like how do people enjoy it normally
like a normal real human I wish everyone
gets out there and is living the life
they want making the amount they want
seeing how money supports you not you
just working for the money the money
needs to work for you I think being
entrepreneur has been an awesome part of
making money because I think you look at
money a lot as return on investment like
when you're entrepreneur you're like how
much does it cost what does it make me
and that is sometimes harder when you're
in your personal life cuz you're like
okay what's this vegetable and how much
is it going to benefit my health really
stick with it you know like if you look
at the appsumo journey I made almost Z
for myself first year I think it's 50 to
70 the second year then it was like 100
for the next 3 to 4ish years and then
only finally in like the last you know
half of appsumo the past like six seven
years have I been making like 1 million
2 million 3 million and so it's it's
sticking with it I feel comfortable
experimenting sharing my income and if
negative things and security risk
increase then I will definitely pull
back from doing something like this the
the benefit to me is that I think it's
inspiring that people there's going to
be one person out there watching
thinking hey I can do it too maybe it's
going to be in software like Noah did
with appsumo maybe it's going to be in
car washes maybe it's going to be a food
delivery business but huh that seems
like a pretty cool life and like there's
and it is you know buying whatever
pinball machines you want or being able
to eat wherever you want or travel
whenever you want and and having those
options is is priceless and so being
able to share how I was able to get here
be able to share what it looks like it's
been amazing to get to to the point I'm
at and I I hope for you there's going to
be one of you out there that that'll
choose to take action today uh to be
able to get there and maybe beyond all
right y'all love you smooches
