- Hi, guys.
- She is the senior director
for women's creative direction
at Adidas.
We also have four-time,
Grammy-winning
recording artist and fellow
sneakerhead like myself.
He specifically has
218 pairs of kicks.
- Macklemore.
- ( all cheering )
We have supermodel,
author, body activist,
as well as designer,
Miss Ashley Graham.
Just a reminder,
you guys are ultimately
competing for the opportunity
to work at Adidas.
So their goal this week
was to take a high heel
that's traditionally not known
for its function and comfort--
- Don't I know that.
- Absolutely.
And they had to make more of a
performance-fashion high heel.
I'm really curious about
the sneaker to heel moment.
I don't know that I've seen it
done exceedingly well.
- Yeah.
- Definitely not an easy task
to take the two worlds
and meld them into one shoe.
( all laughing )
So the Nu Black, you're up.
Let's go.
Megan:
I think The Nu Black is just
really good at communicating.
I think we learned
from them to see
how they were able to
support each other
and hopefully that shows
in the product.
The name of our project is
The Skin I'm In.
Obviously, Ashley,
inspired by you.
To us, you're the Beyoncé
of body confidence.
- Ooh!
- Almost effortlessly.
You know, you shake off the
haters, the Internet trolls,
and at the same time
you spread positive messages
about body image to women,
proudly shouting,
"To hell with your beauty
standards."
- Yeah!
- And, Macklemore,
one of the coldest white boys
I ever been in
the presence of.
- I'll be honest with you.
- Yeah.
But you,
the same way as Ashley,
you just seamlessly intertwine
cultural messages,
positive affirmations
in your music,
so both of you together,
you've had to overcome a lot,
and being comfortable
in the skin you're in
is what got you
to where you are.
So with this project,
we looked at our shoe
and we looked
at the imperfections,
and instead of hiding them,
we choose to expose them,
accept them, show them off,
and love them.
If I remember, Miss Ashley,
you said you wanted a shoe
where you're able to wear it--
was it at young lady's event
as well as a lingerie shoot?
- Yep.
- And, Mr. Macklemore,
this shoe has to
be able to come
from the streets
to the runway, correct?
So these sound like
two different events.
Two different extremes,
but nobody has time
to make two different shoes,
so instead of doing all that,
we made one shoe
where we give you the ability
to switch it up to whichever
look that you want.
and we achieved this
by making a gaiter.
Basically what I did was
I cut out stencils of the camo,
used that as an underlay
and started spraying
the different colors and
starting to build off that.
It's a sexy,
classy, comfy shoe
that's gonna have a confidence
that walks in the room
far before you do.
I hope you enjoy.
- Thank you.
- Wow.
( gasps )
Oh, my gosh.
Oh, my goodness.
It is really cool.
- Like this?
- Yeah, that's it.
Oh, that's great.
I tell you what,
I don't want to speak for you
but for me, this whole, like,
turning a sneaker into a heel,
you mastered it.
I mean, this is amazing.
Kerry:
I agree with Ashley, like,
just stylistically
it's really beautiful.
I think you guys delivered
on that balance
of sexy and elegant.
Macklemore:
I don't know
if you guys are
working with specific colors
of bottoms,
but matching these two--
That was actually
the bottom off that.
- It's the original.
- Oh, it was.
'Cause it does feel
kind of weird
to have the different
color kind of camo.
The black and white
and then the nude up here,
but overall I think that
you guys did--
did your thing.
- Good job.
Take your seats.
- Thank you.
- Thank you, guys.
- ( applause )
D'Wayne:
All right, The Blueprint.
Let's see what you have.
Analise:
This week I wasn't feeling
that confident
in our team shoe
because it's difficult
when you have to wait
for someone.
I definitely feel nervous.
We are The Blueprint,
and our concept for this week
is the Kiss Of Death.
Ashley said that she would
like to be a Bond girl,
and her killer move would be
to kiss people to death.
Am I correct?
- Oh, she just did it.
- Oh, oh!
Look, I almost died just then.
- Um...
- ( all laughing )
So our version of
the kiss of death is a kiss
that kills the old way
of thinking
in the modeling industry
and in the music industry,
which you both came through
and created diversity
and made a change.
So we're calling you guys
agents of change.
And the shoe
that we created for you,
we had to take this heel,
combine it
with legendary NMD,
so you could be
on a whole other level.
Let's talk about
some of the colors.
In the Ariaprene Pro,
we have integrated the camo
from the original NMD.
We used a matte black
and the venom on top,
almost like a double camo.
Lastly, we can't forget
about the Boost.
So whether you're punching,
kicking, the Boost is there
so you can always
bounce back.
- Thank you.
- All right, agents,
here's your brief.
- Wow.
- Nice.
Ashley:
It's so outside of the box,
but it still has such,
like, a high-end feel to it.
It would be a shoe that
I wouldn't personally buy,
but if somebody put it on me,
I know that I would rock it.
I think there's a lot
of imagination in here
but the colorway
is not my favorite.
It's just a little
over the top,
and I would've just
toned it back to, you know,
kind of bring it all together
and center it.
- I love the spy concept.
- It's really good.
I mean, you thought
outside the box.
They didn't go for
the normal curve or body
or whatever you thought
of a character.
You created a whole scenario.
That was really awesome.
Good job. Nice.
The Hype is up next.
Rebecca:
We're really quite excited
to present to Macklemore
and Ashley.
We have a great story,
great shoe.
We've worked tremendous hours
on this and gave it our all.
Ashley, you're walking
down the sidewalk,
- when all of a sudden,
- Ring, ring!
It's Macklemore here.
( all laughing )
We have a situation.
We need your help.
And just like that,
Ashley dashes
through the scene,
changing into her alter ego.
Catalina:
Sexy, Super Curvalicious.
( all laughing )
Rebecca:
We started out
with a short kind of heel.
I was going for more of a Ashley
Instagram type of a look.
It was not working,
and it was 2:00 am
at this point,
and we were just
balls deep in it.
We couldn't think of
anything more--
Talk more about
the "balls deep" thing.
- Yeah.
- Anyways, um--
then Catalina with
her cute accent, she's like,
"We just need to go for it."
So, as a challenge...
This is the first
part of your shoe,
and you're just strolling
down the street,
and you have
the sneaker on you,
and then you get a call again
from Macklemore.
So you need to race
to the scene.
You have to strap it on quick,
so we have a zipper going
all the way up to the front.
You have your extra cushion
just so that you can
get there faster.
And we've also made the sole
a little bit thicker
so that it distributes
the weight a little bit better.
I see you with the capes.
You guys did a good job!
- Wow!
- Damn.
So here's your leg.
Okay, thank you.
( all laughing )
Right, in case
you needed another one.
Wow. I have a comic!
Yeah, you have
your own comic book.
These presentations!
I want to cry!
Oh, my God.
This is the part
that I really like the most
is that there is a zipper,
but it can be opened
depending on how big or small
the leg is, right?
It's definitely very wearable,
and I like it,
and I would
definitely wear it.
- Would you wear this?
- I would wear this.
- Yeah!
- ( all laughing )
This makes me want to hoop.
And this makes me
want to go out.
- D'Wayne: Right?
- ( all laughing )
I'm really impressed.
You guys killed
this challenge.
D'Wayne:
Being down one,
you guys did a great job,
but I will have to give you
a little bit on the balls--
- was it deep?
- Yeah, sorry about that.
High? What was it?
I can't remember what it was.
I know I don't
want to be there,
- Yeah, yeah.
- whatever that is.
Just be conscious of the words
that come out of your mouth.
It was my favorite part.
( all laughing )
- Yeah.
- D'Wayne: All right, so,
to close us out, Trifecta.
I think I'm sold on the shoe
and the concept,
but I can't lie,
I'm a little bit worried
about the presentation.
The other three groups
did a good job
setting the bar high.
So coming in
as the last group,
we got to knock it out,
pretty much.
We were tasked
with reinventing
two of the most iconic
pieces of footwear--
the running sneaker
into a classic stiletto.
What's a symbol of perfection?
To us it was a diamond.
But what makes diamonds
really interesting
is when they're not perfect.
It's about celebrating flaws.
So our color inspiration
is actually influenced
by how light hits a diamond.
So depending on the angle
and the intensity of the light,
depends on a certain color
that you see.
So I'm gonna talk
from our first prototype--
- Don't look too scared--
- First prototype.
It looks way better than--
first prototype.
The outsole is made
from a stretch web rubber
which houses the Boost midsole
for cushioning.
As far as, like, the heel,
the toe, and the perimeter,
that's made
of a pebbled suede
to give you that luxurious feel,
flexibility.
The heel cap has that shine
like we were talking about
with the diamonds.
The knit ankle collar
for a tight fit
and breathable support,
and of course we had to include
that Boost midsole
so that you can walk
in your high heels
throughout the whole day.
So we hope
you really like it.
- Wow.
- Thank you.
Now this is, like,
very Stella McCartney.
I like that it kind of
looks like a sneaker still.
It's definitely
a specialty shoe,
but in the best kind of way.
My only criticism
is seeing the prototype.
For me, like,
if I'm making a song,
when my song is done,
I don't go back
and show people rough drafts.
Because in a way,
I kind of like
this color way more.
- Mmm.
- And then I think
it lessens the impact
of your final product.
You guys did deliver
a really compelling design.
- Nice work.
- Yay!
( applause )
Ashley:
I do have to say one thing,
it's one thing to see
all the prototypes
here in person,
but it's a whole other thing
to see them actually in action.
Oh, absolutely.
They were also tasked
to put on a little bit
of a fashion show for you.
- Ooh!
- A fashion show.
We'll start off with
the street wear look first,
and then we'll roll right
into the high-fashion part.
Let's start the runway show.
( music playing )
Our shoe on the model
looked amazing.
I'm hoping
Ashley notices that
we blended the two worlds
very well,
and I'm just hoping
Macklemore notices
that it's cool enough
to be considered street.
( chuckles )
When the model came out
and they changed the lighting,
you see that camo stand out,
I think that made, like,
a whole lot of difference.
Our shoe--
our shoe was ( bleep ) dope.
Rebecca:
Our model, I'm really hoping
that she's not gonna trip,
because we have
the bottom sole of it on there,
and I'm like,
"Oh, that's gonna make it
hard to walk in."
It was a little
nerve-wracking.
It looks amazing.
It actually looks sexy,
and it's functional.
Hopefully they both love it.
( cheering )
You guys did
a really good job.
- Yes.
- You really did.
D'Wayne:
So now the hard part comes.
We have to excuse you guys
for a few minutes
while we have
a little bit of deliberation
and conversation
amongst ourselves.
Thank you guys very much.
Now the tough part begins.
So we have Nu Black.
To me it was night and day
seeing it here like this.
But then when I saw it
walk down the runway,
I could not see myself
in this shoe.
That's the power of putting it
on the consumer's foot.
There's something
simplistic about this,
between the colorway
and just kind of
the sporty upper.
This has definitely grown on me,
and I did not think
that I would be saying
that right now whatsoever.
It's a little clunky.
It's maybe not what
you would typically expect
for a high heel
for most body types.
I think the model
struggled a little bit.
D'Wayne: Blueprint?
Ashley:
This is a confusing shoe to me
because it has
too many things on it.
Take a few things away
and I really like this shoe.
Macklemore:
I think it's a really
innovative design.
I think that they
pushed the boundaries.
But would I go to a store
and pick this out
for my girl to wear?
- No.
- D'Wayne: The Hype?
Macklemore:
There's something about
seeing this up close.
You see the craftsmanship.
You see how nice
this mesh actually is.
And further away,
because of the color, I think,
it looks cheap.
The presentation
was really great.
They're down a member.
Nobody else put all the time
into the lace
and into the zipper.
The mesh did look
a little cheap out there,
but the leather
is so beautiful.
I like the chance
that they took.
Different than
the other designs here
is if you remove the story,
this doesn't look like this.
They went in.
They made a superhero.
- Trifecta.
- ♪ Trifecta ♪
This is hard because their
presentation wasn't as strong.
But then they made
a really great shoe!
- Yeah.
- I like this.
I think that this
is really clean.
This, again, to me,
looks like something--
I see it at a store.
If anything, I would say
it might lack some imagination
of the other ones,
but not a lot.
I could see myself
wearing this shoe.
And it's definitely
my vibe of colors.
The only thing for me
was really just bringing out
the imperfection.
It's almost too perfect.
They achieved that
a little bit with the sole,
but that was really it.
Are you guys ready for--
bring 'em back in?
- Yes.
- Let's bring 'em back.
- Okay. Let's do it.
- Let's do it.
All right,
how you guys doing?
- Good.
- Good?

to get to a conclusion.
But the two teams that will
step forward tonight
will be Trifecta...
and The Hype.
Nu Black, The Blueprint,
please take your seats.
The Hype and Trifecta,
you guys were the two best
teams this week.
Trifecta, the presentation
wasn't the smoothest,
but we really did love
the design itself.
The Hype, even though you guys
were short one person,
you didn't look that way.
You guys took a chance
and what I loved
the most about it
was without your theme,
your shoe wouldn't look
the way it does.
Huge, huge thank you
to you guys for delivering.
