(soft piano music) 00:00
- Good morning everybody. 00:02
So today's video is gonna be a little bit different. 00:03
As you can tell, I'm holding a camera. 00:05
Woo, woo, woo. 00:07
And I'm gonna attempt at vlogging. 00:08
So this was week was pretty stressful for me. 00:10
I don't know if it was just because I was extra busy. 00:12
Or because I'm you know creating different content, 00:15
and trying different things like this. 00:17
But, I know that after a really long, busy week, 00:19
I like to take some time for myself, 00:22
and so I plan to have Saturday completely free. 00:23
If any of you know, I'm looking back, 00:26
this will probably come out next week. 00:28
But looking back on last week, you know, 00:29
I didn't have a live stream on Saturday, 00:30
and that was, you know, by design, 00:32
because I knew that I kind of needed a little break. 00:33
To just have like a self-care day. 00:36
So I'm gonna walk you through 00:38
what I do to take care of myself. 00:39
Cause I know a lot of you ask about it. 00:40
And I think rather than just telling you, 00:42
I'm gonna show you. 00:45
The most important thing to me when I'm gonna 00:48
go out and have a day on my own, 00:50
is that I'm comfortable, right? 00:52
So, I'm putting on some of my favorite Nike shoes. 00:54
That I bought before my trip to Scotland all that time ago. 00:57
And they are still some of my faves. 00:59
And I've got my cozy pants. 01:02
And I got one of my favorite sweatshirts. 01:03
It's actually one of the best purchases I ever made. 01:05
It was from a Nordstrom sale. 01:07
It was like this Aloe sweatshirt, 01:09
but it's got the thumb holes, you guys. 01:11
Do you know what I'm talking about? 01:13
It's the best. 01:14
(upbeat music) 01:17
Hey everybody, so since I'm starting off my day 01:24
in my cozy clothes, I'm gonna grab some coffee. 01:26
Cause y'all know how much I love coffee. 01:28
And I know a lot of you coffee snobs yourself 01:35
will be like "how come you're drinking it cold?" 01:37
But, I'm warm. 01:38
I've been walking around. 01:39
And it's my day. 01:40
I do what I like. 01:41
Lately, you know things have 01:44
just been a little stressful for me. 01:45
And I think it has to do with a couple of things. 01:48
One being like financial stress, 01:49
and making sure that I make enough money. 01:52
Cause for all of you who don't know, 01:54
you know I paid for all of my own school. 01:56
And I pay about $1100 bucks a month in student loans. 01:57
It's just been really stressful. 01:59
And so, I haven't really been taking time for myself. 02:01
I've been instead spending time worrying 02:03
about those types of things, 02:05
and making sure I'm doing enough work, 02:07
and answering enough emails, and creating enough content. 02:08
And making thing exciting. 02:10
And I found that I needed to put more back into myself. 02:12
And so something that I'm gonna make 02:15
a concerted effort to do 02:16
is to schedule self-care days. 02:18
Where I do things just for me, 02:20
just because I want to. 02:21
And I encourage you to do the same. 02:22
Carve out some time. 02:24
Even if it's not a full day. 02:25
If it's a few hours here and there. 02:26
It really adds up, 02:27
and it really helps us, 02:28
you know fill our own bucket 02:29
before we go trying to fill others. 02:30
And so, as part of that something that I do 02:32
for when I take days for myself, 02:35
is that I don't have a set schedule. 02:37
I don't even have anything that I have to do. 02:39
I don't have anything that needs to get done. 02:40
Because then that wouldn't be self-care. 02:42
So for today, I'm just kind a roaming around. 02:44
I'm walking around my city in parts that I like. 02:46
I'm gonna shop for some cozy clothes, 02:49
cause those make me happy. 02:50
I've got my coffee. 02:51
I've got my nice music. 02:52
And I got my best friend Sean. 02:54
And then we'll probably grab something to eat, 02:56
because that's part of taking care of yourself too. 02:57
So anyways, that's just a little bit 03:00
about what's going on today. 03:01
This one's good. 03:07
(upbeat music) 03:07
Oh, this is the one. 03:19
Goji Tarocco Orange. 03:20
It's amazing. 03:22
It's comin' home. 03:24
(upbeat music) 03:26
Thanks for letting us, 03:33
I have a mental health YouTube channel. 03:34
So I'm doing like this self-care day. 03:35
- Oh. - So we were kind of walking 03:37
along and I needed to get - How 03:38
- scents before you closed. - nice. 03:39
- I was like, we need candles for the house, 03:40
and this is my favorite store. (laughs) 03:41
- Oh, 03:42
thanks. 03:43
Thanks for always coming in. 03:45
- Yeah, of course, of course. 03:47
- I could use mental health candles, 03:49
and little ceremony 03:52
- Yeah - around them. 03:53
- Like the act of pulling them out and, 03:54
lighting them - Exactly. 03:55
and even picking them - Exactly. 03:56
- Yeah, I totally agree. 03:58
(upbeat music) 04:01
Oh my gosh, you guys. 04:13
I think it was made for us. 04:14
It's got a squirrel on it. 04:15
Oh, and it smells amazing. 04:18
Sugar lemon. 04:19
It's a good one. 04:20
Oh, it does smell good. 04:22
It's like a whole little squirrel. 04:25
I love it. 04:27
Another thing I like to do is take my coffee 04:29
somewhere where I can sit and I can relax. 04:31
And I can you know just enjoy the outdoors. 04:33
I'm really fortunate enough to live in Southern California. 04:36
And live by the water. 04:38
And I know it's more expensive to live here, 04:39
but I really think it's important for my 04:41
mental health and my well being, 04:43
to be somewhere where I can be outside a lot. 04:45
And I can enjoy all the sights. 04:47
And I can go to the ocean. 04:49
Sean and I thought about moving farther inland a while back. 04:50
And he was like, "no I think it's good 04:53
"for me to be near the ocean." 04:54
And I have to agree. 04:56
Look at how beautiful it is today. 04:57
(upbeat music) 04:59
Something that I actually love about my city 05:16
is how all of the restaurants aren't really chains. 05:18
Most of them are owned by local people. 05:20
And we get to know the owners. 05:22
And one of my favorite places is called Independent. 05:23
And they are super nice to us. 05:26
And so Sean and I walk down on weekends. 05:27
And relax. 05:30
Grab some food, grab a cocktail, 05:30
and just enjoy ourselves. 05:32
Because I find that I don't like to cook. 05:33
And I find it really stressful. 05:35
And so it's actually really nice, 05:37
and such a luxury to be able to go out, 05:38
and get some amazing food at local place 05:40
where we kind of know the people. 05:42
And it feels like a community. 05:43
(upbeat music) 05:45
Remember how I mentioned in the last live stream, 06:04
how important it was that you wear clothes 06:06
that not only make you feel amazing, 06:07
but also that feel good on you? 06:10
And so I think it's really important to buy 06:12
clothes that are comfortable. 06:14
And I find I spend a lot of time at home in my pajamas. 06:15
So part of what I'm trying to do is like buy clothing 06:17
that is not only cozy so I can wear it at home, 06:20
but also things that I can take out. 06:23
(upbeat music) 06:25
The main reason I wanted to do this today, 06:38
and kind of just show how I take care of myself. 06:40
Is because I found that we're 06:42
are pulled in so many directions in life. 06:43
And we often have so many responsibilities. 06:45
Whether it be work, or school. 06:47
And we put into those relationships. 06:49
And those tasks. 06:51
And I think it's really important we take time, 06:52
to put into our most important relationship. 06:54
The one we have with ourselves. 06:56
So many of you know. 06:58
- [Sean] Oh, I didn't know you were gonna talk right here. 06:59
- I'll just talk and then do it real quick. 07:01
We can always have that if we need it, 07:04
and then we can just cut it, right? 07:05
(Sean mumbles) 07:08
If find talking to it is the best. 07:11
Many of you if you follow me on social media at all, 07:17
know how much I love a good face mask. 07:19
And I really like Origins. 07:21
This is one of my favorite brands is, 07:22
because it's organic, 07:23
and I can feel good about that fact that it's 07:25
going on my skin. 07:26
And so today we're gonna try the original skin mask. 07:28
I'm gonna put that on, 07:30
and then I'm just gonna relax for a bit. 07:31
Which is the best way to unwind, 07:33
I find after a stressful day. 07:34
And maybe with a glass of wine, who knows? 07:36
(upbeat music) 07:38
What? 07:59
- [Sean] Do you want me to stop filming? 08:00
- No, I think that's it. 08:01
(lighter flicks) 08:09
You all know how much I love to color. 08:36
And I've done it since I was a child. 08:37
And the thing about it is because 08:39
I don't want to mess it up, 08:40
I don't wanna go outside the lines, 08:41
And I wanna pick the right color, 08:43
I literally can't think about anything else. 08:44
So if I'm stressed out or feeling maxed out, 08:47
I just take 15, 20 minutes and color for a bit. 08:49
It helps calm me. 08:52
Something about feeling the pencil and the paper 08:53
it's just so soothing. 08:55
And you all have sent me such wonderful coloring books. 08:56
I keep them all. 08:59
And I work on them all progressively. 08:59
And it's just a great tool to relax. 09:01
(upbeat music) 09:03
So we put so much into other relationships 09:21
that we have with people, 09:24
and I really think it's important we put back into, 09:25
Sean. 09:27
