Hello and welcome back to my slow 00:01
English 00:05
[Music] 00:07
podcast. Today I want to talk about 00:11
grocery 00:17
stores and supermarkets. How to use 00:18
essential words when going to the 00:25
grocery store. Some essential phrases, 00:29
questions, and 00:35
vocabulary, all in a 00:37
slow, comprehensible way. I 00:41
love grocery stores. I love grocery 00:45
stores. 00:50
like Walmart, Costco, Sam's, and Target. 00:51
Those are my favorite stores to get 00:58
groceries at. I like those stores the 01:05
most because I love trying 01:11
samples of different food in the store. 01:17
And in those grocery stores, they always 01:22
have 01:28
free samples with no 01:29
cost. Free. I also love these 01:33
stores because the 01:38
aisles are so wide. Not 01:41
narrow, but the aisles are wide. At some 01:47
stores 01:53
like 01:54
Bodega, Sorana, the aisles are too 01:56
narrow. That's why I 02:02
prefer places like Walmart with wide 02:06
aisles. My favorite 02:11
aisle is the detergent 02:15
aisle. It 02:20
smells so good. It smells 02:22
so fresh and clean. As a 02:27
customer at 02:35
Walmart, I always feel comfortable. The 02:37
temperature is 02:43
usually very cool and the shopping 02:45
carts 02:51
stroll really 02:53
smooth down the aisles. 02:56
I like to 02:59
stroll around on them sometimes. 03:01
Sometimes I like to 03:06
skate on them 03:10
or lean on them. What's your favorite 03:12
grocery store to 03:18
visit and why? What makes a grocery 03:21
store feel comfy for you? The smells, 03:26
the shopping carts, the people. When I'm 03:32
ready to check 03:36
out all of my groceries, I normally try 03:38
to go to selfch checkout. The 03:44
lines the 03:50
queue is usually 03:52
shorter than regular checkout. 03:56
So selfch 04:01
checkout is a lot faster and I always 04:03
prefer to get my fresh 04:09
produce like 04:13
vegetables and fruits at the local 04:15
market. I prefer going to the local 04:20
market for food that's 04:25
fresh. Fresh produce. I usually need a 04:30
whole 04:36
bunch of bananas. I eat one banana every 04:37
day. So, I need at 04:44
least five 04:48
bananas for my week. 1 kilo of 04:50
bananas is usually enough for me. It's 04:55
usually a whole 05:00
bunch of bananas. 05:03
How many kilos of 05:06
bananas do you normally 05:08
buy per week from Sunday to 05:12
Saturday? How many do you buy? I don't 05:17
like going to big chain 05:22
supermarkets to buy fresh produce. 05:27
However, when it comes to meat like 05:31
beef, chicken, 05:37
pork, or fish, I prefer to go to a big 05:40
chain 05:48
supermarket. I get 05:49
nervous buying at 05:52
outdoor markets. The meat sometimes sits 05:55
in the 06:02
sun all day. The same with dairy 06:03
products. I prefer to go to a big chain 06:07
supermarket for my dairy products. And I 06:13
really like walking down the aisle at 06:17
places like Walmart or 06:22
Sorana to buy my dairy products. I just 06:26
love dairy products. Cottage 06:31
cheese, Greek yogurt, ice cream. I love 06:35
it all. 06:40
But I am lactose 06:42
intolerant. So dairy 06:46
products make me feel very sick. But I 06:50
don't 06:56
care. I get 06:58
sick and I don't 07:01
care. I love dairy products. Now, when 07:04
it comes to dairy products like 07:09
eggs, I don't really like eggs. I can 07:12
never 07:18
buy a dozen eggs. A dozen is 12 eggs. 07:19
It's too much for me. If I'm with my 07:27
family though, we will get a dozen eggs. 07:32
Can you 07:37
finish a dozen eggs all by yourself? 07:38
Now, when it comes to buying pastries or 07:44
bread, I always go to the local bakery. 07:51
Bakeries, in my 07:58
opinion, are the only way to buy bread. 08:01
Bread has to be 08:07
made with 08:10
love. My friend once told me that bread 08:12
doesn't go to your stomach. Bread goes 08:18
to your 08:23
heart. And you can taste the love put 08:25
into bread, I think. And the 08:31
freshly homemade 08:36
flavor is 08:39
incomparable. What do you think? What's 08:42
your favorite food aisle? The dairy 08:45
aisle, 08:49
drinks, snacks, canned goods, condiments 08:51
like ketchup, mayo, mustard. 08:56
The 09:00
prices at each grocery store make a big 09:01
difference when you're buying in 09:08
bulk. Lots of 09:12
people prefer to buy things that will 09:15
last a long time. And places like 09:20
Walmart or 09:28
Costco are usually more expensive than 09:30
places like 09:37
Aurora or 09:39
Sorana. Less 09:42
international big chain stores. They 09:45
usually have more 09:48
sales and 09:52
discounts. I like 09:55
buying expensive 09:58
things for cheap prices. When I go to 10:00
the checkout to pay for my groceries, I 10:07
normally use my credit card because I 10:12
never have 10:19
coins or 10:22
change or even bills with me. 10:25
So, in conclusion, even though the big 10:30
chain 10:35
supermarkets are more convenient because 10:36
of the shopping 10:41
carts, the credit card payments, and the 10:43
big aisles, I still always 10:48
prefer going to local supermarkets to 10:53
support the community. What do you 10:59
prefer? Big chain grocery 11:02
stores or local supermarkets? Now for a 11:05
little challenge question. Tell 11:10
me what is the 11:13
difference between a 11:16
bag, a 11:20
box, a 11:23
can, a 11:25
jar, a 11:27
bottle, a carton, and a package. Tell me 11:30
one thing you can find in each 11:36
packaging. For example, I can find 11:41
milk or juice in a carton. I can find 11:46
jelly or olives in a jar. Also remember 11:53
to use some useful phrases at the 12:00
supermarket or grocery store. If you're 12:04
looking for something and you can't find 12:09
it, you could say, "Where can I find the 12:13
milk?" I'm looking for the milk. Do you 12:19
have any milk? Or to ask the price of 12:24
something, you can say, "How much does 12:30
this cost?" "How much does this cost?" 12:34
And when making a card payment, you can 12:39
ask, "Can I pay by card or can I pay 12:44
with cash?" It depends if you're using 12:51
cash or card. They might ask 12:54
you paper or plastic or would you like a 12:57
receipt? I hope these 13:05
phrases helped 13:08
you. And I hope you remember some of 13:10
these in the future when you go grocery 13:14
shopping. If you like this video, leave 13:19
a like and comment all your answers down 13:22
below. And you will probably like these 13:27
videos as well. Comment something that 13:30
you would like me to talk about in my 13:33
