How are you today, Neil? 00:22
I'm very well, Georgie. How are you? 00:24
I'm pretty good, thank you, as well. 00:26
So, Georgie, what are we talking about in today's episode? 00:29
Today's episode is all about films and television. 00:34
We'll talk about our favourite movies and shows. 00:37
Great, let's get started. 00:40
OK, Neil. So, what kinds of films do you like? 00:44
I like foreign films, films that are not in English, 00:47
because I like stories from other countries. 00:53
What about you? 00:56
I like two kinds of films. 00:58
One type of film I really like is films that you can learn from, 01:01
and the other type of film is films that you can escape from reality. 01:05
So usually quite silly films or fantasy films. 01:11
OK. Do you have a favourite film? 01:15
Yes, I do, I really love the Harry Potter series. 01:17
So, Georgie, can you tell us about your favourite film, 01:21
the Harry Potter film you mentioned? 01:25
Yes. So you want to know about the plot, which is what happens in the film. 01:28
So Harry Potter is all about a boy who discovers that he is a wizard, 01:33
that is someone who does magic. 01:38
And he goes to a school for magic, called Hogwarts, 01:41
and he meets his best friends, Ron and Hermione, 01:45
who are other characters in the film. 01:48
And he spends a lot of his time 01:51
trying to escape a dark wizard called Voldemort and it's very dangerous. 01:54
It's a great film! 02:00
Wow, it sounds like there's lots of interesting characters in these films. 02:01
Yes. Very evil characters and also really nice characters. 02:06
Mm. So, Georgie, you talked a lot about your favourite film, Harry Potter, 02:11
and the grammar you used to describe the film was present simple. 02:18
So, for example, you said the film is about a boy 02:26
who discovers that he is a wizard and he goes to a school, 02:30
a special school for wizards, and he makes friends with Ron and Hermione. 02:37
All present simple. 02:44
Yes, that's right. 02:46
We use the present simple to describe the plot of a story like a book or a film. 02:47
We also use the present simple to tell stories sometimes, 02:54
things that happened to us in the past, which is interesting. 02:57
What about you? What's your favourite film? 03:01
Well, I think my favourite film is from when I was a kid, 03:04
and it's Raiders Of The Lost Ark. 03:10
Wow. I haven't seen that. 03:13
It's very old, but it's got Indiana Jones, and he was my hero when I was a kid. 03:16
— Really? — Yeah. 03:22
Why was he your hero? 03:23
Because it was, he's all about action and adventure and catching bad guys. 03:24
Oh, interesting! See, I'm not a big fan of action and adventure. 03:30
So, Georgie, do you watch lots of movies? 03:34
I actually don't, because I have quite a short attention span. 03:38
I actually prefer to watch TV or series. 03:43
What about you? 03:47
Yeah, again, I think there's so much choice these days, 03:49
sometimes actually I watch nothing, because I don't know what to choose. 03:53
But sometimes, I really get into a TV series 03:58
and, yeah, watch it all very quickly and talk about it a lot. 04:03
— Mm-hm. That's called binge watching. — Mm. 04:08
How do you watch these series? 04:11
Erm, on TV. But, you know, I stream them, like everybody these days. 04:13
So, you just used the word stream. 04:19
You 'stream' TV shows and movies 04:21
and that means 'watching films or TV using the internet'. 04:24
You can watch things whenever you want when you stream things. 04:28
OK. Let's look again at the vocabulary we learned during the conversation. 04:38
We learned 'plot', 04:42
which means 'the story of a film, TV programme or book', so what happens. 04:44
'Character', that's 'a person in a story'. 04:50
And 'stream' — 'watch a film or programme online'. 04:53
And we learned how to use present simple to talk about what happens in a film. 04:58
For example, Harry Potter  05:04
goes to a magic school called  Hogwarts and meets two best friends. 05:06
