[English]
- Today we take jump rope to the extreme.
- Let's talk about that.
(fun theme music)
(fire blazing)
- Good Mythical Summer!
- Yes, welcome to our Summer
series where we're gonna be
bringing you episodes every
Monday and Wednesday from us and
then a very special Friday
episode every week featuring a
guest host that we know you're
gonna love and give a nice
warm mythical welcome to.
- Mhm, because that enables us to work on
Buddy System Season two
- Right.
- For you.
- Yes.
- Filming that over
the Summer, Rhett.
Today we're gonna
be testing the
- Thanks.
- Limits, I will say, of
our jump roping skills.
- Yeah.
- And then maybe get injured,
maybe learn some stuff,
- Hopefully.
- Maybe put your whole life
in perspective as it relates
to jump roping.
- Right.
But first we wanna let you
know about something that we
bringing the mythical beasts
this fall and that is our
Tour of Mythicality.
In conjunction with the release
of Rhett and Link's Book of
Mythicality we're going to be
going all across this great
country, the United States
of America, and bringing
you a show.
- This is not like a book tour.
- Yeah.
- This is not like, (blowing).
- We're not going to libraries
and bookstores and just
signing the book.
We're going to theaters and
we are putting on a show.
- Yeah, this might include music.
I can guarantee it.
- It might, it will.
- This might include bringing
aspects of the Book of
Mythicality to life in front
of your very eyes, I can
guarantee it will.
- Yes.
- It might include magic.
- It won't.
- Probably not.
- Unless we learn some magic tricks
between now and then.
- Yeah, we gotta work on that.
- You can go to TourofMythicality.com
to see where we're
going but we'll let you know right now.
We're gonna go to New York,
Austin, Dallas, San Francisco,
San Diego, Los Angeles,
Washington, DC, Philadelphia,
Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis,
Chicago, Orlando, Atlanta,
and have a little homecoming
in Durham, North Cackalacky.
- What?
TourofMythicality.com.
You'll be able to order tickets soon.
- Well, the tickets will go
on sale this Friday but if
you're a subscriber to the
Mythical Monthly newsletter you
can get early access to tickets this week.
So go over to MythicalMonthly.com,
sign up for that
newsletter and be one of the
first people to get access
to the tickets.
- Make sure you get those seats, people.
- Okay, we ready to push some
jump roping to the extreme?
- Let's do it.
- It's time for Jumpman,
Jumpman, Jumpman, Them
Tricks Really Somethin'
Uh Uh Uh, I Think I Need
Some Rope Discussin'.
- Okay, so Stevie is going
to describe jump rope moves.
- Yeah.
- To us.
- Which are a thing apparently.
- That we are not privy to and
then we're gonna each attempt
them based on the steps she has given us.
Then we're gonna come back
to the desk and we're gonna
analyze each of our
jump rope performances.
- Yeah.
- And give each other a score.
- Yeah.
- After a few rounds we will
determine the jump rope king
of the playground.
Let's do it.
- To the Jump Rope Zone.
The Jump Rope Zone comes
with its own wardrobe.
- Yeah it does.
Okay, now listen, before we
start the first round, can we
just do some jump roping as a baseline?
Because literally yesterday
was the first day that I ever
jumped a rope successfully.
- What?
How did you avoid this?
- Well, I tried it and I
wasn't good at it, so then
I avoided it.
- Okay, warm up a little bit.
(crew laughs)
- I'm telling you I'm bad at
jump rope.
- It doesn't sound
good over there.
- Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah,
yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Alright, I'm killin' it.
(rope whooshing)
(crew laughs)
- What's that noise?
- That was when you go
around twice in one jump.
- [Link] Are you kidding me?
(crew laughs)
- I'm ready.
- [Stevie] Okay guys, this
first one's called Heel to Toe
and here we go.
- Heel to Toe.
- [Stevie] Start by jumping
lightly without your rope.
As you land, lift your toes
on your left foot up so your
heel hits the floor.
The next time you jump place
your left foot flat on the
ground as you lift the
toes of your right foot
when you land.
Keep alternating.
Get comfortable with the movement.
Pick up your rope
and continue the movement
jumping with the rope.
(laughs)
- Oh, my goodness.
- That's hard.
- [Stevie] Once you think that
you've got it let me know.
- (laughs) I'm already as
close as I'm gonna get.
- [Stevie] Alright, Rhett?
- That's me.
- I'm listening to your
rhythm, it's not gonna help me.
Okay.
- Sounds good over there.
(crew laughs)
- Alright, I think that was it.
- [Rhett] Alright, let's
go check out the results.
Oh, man.
(laughs)
- Okay.
Off to a stellar start.
Maybe we should look at yours first.
- Oh, really?
- (laughs) Yeah let's take a
- Okay.
- Look at what you did.
- Yeah.
- Oh, man.
Look at you.
- [Rhett] Nice!
- Dang, Rhett.
- Yeah, heel toe,
heel toe!
- Heel toe.
I'm rather intimidated.
- Okay, let's see what you got.
- Oh.
Oh, yeah.
(crew laughs)
- [Rhett] Okay.
(laughs)
Alright.
You look happy.
Your shorts look great.
- [Link] I look so wide.
- Yeah, I don't see any heel
toe action but let's look at
the real thing.
- I was trying.
Okay, there he is.
First of all his outfit sucks.
- [Rhett] He's doing a little
skip-a-rooney that I'm missing
but actually what I'm doing is
harder than what he's doing.
- [Link] (laughing) Yeah.
- What I will give you though
is that there's a one little
kick in there that lines
up with what he does.
- Yes.
- But you're not actually
ever hitting the heel, you're
just doing a little kick.
I'm gonna give you two points
for the kick and one point
for the shorts.
I'm giving you three points.
- (laughs) Alright, I'll take it.
And you know what, I'm really
impressed with what you did.
The things that are different
between you and that guy, I
think yours were better.
I'm giving you a solid eight.
- Oh!
Alright, let's keep going.
Okay.
Not everybody has it.
(crew laughs)
- Yet.
I'm about to have it.
- [Stevie] Okay, are you ready?
This is called Wounded Duck.
- I did that last time.
(crew laughs)
- [Stevie] Start with
your feet in parallel.
Begin jumping normally.
On your next jump, turn you
knees and toes in towards each
other, keeping your
heels apart as you land.
On your next jump, turn your
knees and toes away from each
other, bringing your heels
towards each other as you land.
- I tell you, if it wasn't
for the rope part I'd be
good at this.
- [Stevie] Keep alternating
back and forth between these two
moves as you continue jumping.
(crew laughs)
- Okay, that was mine.
- Oh, you already got it?
- Yeah, I wounded that duck real fast.
- Alright, here we go.
(crew laughs)
- It always sounds like a horse.
- Or a wounded horse maybe?
- Yeah.
- Alright, I think that was it.
It was in there.
- Okay, let's see.
- Yeah.
I'm really getting into the rhythm now.
- Okay.
- Or something.
- Alright, let's check mine out.
Okay.
- [Link] A little herky jerky there.
- [Rhett] In and out.
- [Link] In, out,
- [Both] In, out.
In, out.
- There you go.
- Okay, that's pretty much what I did.
Let's see what you did.
- Ooo.
- Okay.
- [Link] A lot more in and a lot more out.
- [Rhett] Yeah but you're
kinda missing the point
of the toes.
You get the point of the
toes a couple of times.
Okay.
You look a lot happier than me.
- Let's see what the standard is here.
- [Rhett] Okay, pretty much what I did.
- [Link] Look at that ponytail.
Well, neither one of us
have that working for us.
Now, I'm just gonna say, you
know what, you're pretty much
doing what she's doing.
Your rhythm is a little
off if I'm gonna be picky.
I'll give you a seven.
It's still a decent effort.
- [Rhett] Okay.
I think you put a lot of effort into it.
It's a little bit of
an unnecessary crouch.
- [Link] I just didn't want the rope
to hit me on the head.
- There's an extra bounce
in there but I think you make
up the difference with the
wideness of your stance.
You're more wounded.
- Yeah.
- [Rhett] So, I'm gonna
give you a seven as well.
(laughs)
- Alright, we'll tie up.
- All you needed was a
little practice, Link.
- I'm getting there.
I'm improving.
It's happening right before your eyes.
- [Stevie] How 'bout this next one?
It's called The Wrap.
Begin by jumping normally.
As the rope is coming over
your head, extend your right
arm out straight.
Keep your left arm across your
body and close to your chest.
Use your left arm to guide the
rope so that it wraps around
your right arm.
- What?
- [Stevie] Move both arms
across your body to the left.
- What?
- [Stevie] Swing them to unravel the rope.
As soon as the rope has
cleared your arm, begin
jumping again normally.
- Okay.
(crew laughs)
Okay.
I think I got the first part.
- I know what I'm supposed to do.
I got this.
(crew laughs)
- Okay.
I don't know what happened over there.
- Oh, it's 'cause I'm going backwards.
- Arm goes out, this arm
comes in, comes around
this.
Unwrap it.
- Here we go, here we go, yo.
- Okay.
- So what's my jump rope, yo.
- Here we go.
- Got this.
And for my dismount.
Oh.
(crew laughs)
(crew applauds)
- Alright, let's go see.
- Woo.
Wrap it up.
- I'm pretty sure I did
not do that one correctly.
- Well, let's take a look.
- [Rhett] I mean that's not
even jump at that point.
- [Link] Well, you are still
jumping and I will say that I
think you and I were thinking
the exact same thing.
- I mean it looks cool.
I'd be cool on the playground.
Okay, let's see what you got.
That's basically what I had.
Same thing.
- Ooo.
Except my head's bobbing more.
- [Rhett] Basically we did...
Oh, then you went to the other side.
Okay.
- [Link] Oh, I'mma make it look sexy.
Yeah.
Look at that jump rope.
- But we basically did
the exact same thing.
Oh, and you grabbed your hat.
- Yeah, I lassoed my hat.
- How did you grab your hat?
Okay, you get an extra point for that.
- [Link] That's cowboy moves, man.
- [Rhett] Let's see what she did.
Oh, oh.
- [Link] She did it a lot quicker.
I don't think she's doing it right.
- [Rhett] I think ours
is significantly better.
- I think we were both
doing it right.
- I think I'm gonna give you
a seven but I'm gonna give you
an extra point for grabbing the hat.
You get an eight.
- [Link] I'll just give you
a seven 'cause your hat never
let your head.
- (laughs) Okay.
Okay, Link.
You're proving to be
a formidable opponent.
- [Stevie] Okay, guys.
For this round I'm just gonna
give you the title of the move
but I'm not gonna give you the
steps in order to complete it
because you have to decide
what the move looks like.
- That'll be helpful.
- But we're still comparing
it to an actual thing.
- [Stevie] True, yes.
- Think that doesn't give
me a distinct advantage.
- [Stevie] This move is called The Kruger.
- As in Freddy?
- What did he do?
He was like...
- I've never watched a Freddy
Kruger movie, Rhett's just
told me about them.
- He had sort of a motion that
he would do on the posters.
But I don't understand how
you would incorporate that
into a jump.
- Freddy made it scary
so he went backwards.
- [Rhett] Can I hold that?
- Oh, I'm better at this.
Those are my claws.
Sounds like you're doing the
same thing as me, brother.
- Okay.
I'm getting some style points in there.
You know what?
I'll give you a little side
action so you can see the arch
in my back.
(grunting)
(hisses)
- Oh.
That was it.
That's all I got.
- Yeah, I'm done.
(crew laughs)
Okay.
- It's anybody's game at this point.
- I'm very curious.
- Wide open.
Let's see what you did.
Your face looks very Kruger-ish.
- [Rhett] I'm doing a little crouch.
- [Link] Oh, I see that
you've got the claws
comin' out.
- Yeah, I'm holding on.
That's what I remember about Freddy.
My face is cool.
- See what you think about me.
- [Rhett] Okay, going backwards.
- [Link] Going backwards
'cause you know Freddy.
- Oh, and you did that.
(crew laughs)
Okay, you did that after.
I don't know how to count that.
- Well you know once Freddy
jumps out of the ground to kill
somebody then he's like ah.
- Okay.
- He doesn't need a
rope at that point.
- Let's see what she does.
She's going forwards.
Okay, it's all in the legs.
- [Link] Good gracious.
- [Rhett] Oh, does Kruger do that?
- [Link] Freddy got
nothin' to do with this.
Freddy about to jump out and kill her?
- I mean we both lifted our knees.
We both had instinct to lift
our knees but I gotta point out
she is jump roping forwards.
- Well she went the easy route.
That's her problem.
- [Rhett] I'm gonna give you a
full extra two points for the
post Kruger thing because
I think that that was
a nice touch.
For a total of five.
- [Link] Well, in order to
win I would have to only give
you one point but I don't want
you to beat me by too much so
I'mma give you two points.
- That's all I need to be Lord of the Ju--
(laughing) Lord of the Jungle.
- The jump rope jungle.
- Lord of the Jump Rope
Jungle or King of the Playground.
- Alright, we will see you on Wednesday.
