hi everyone and welcome back to the
English dialogue podcast where we help
you improve your English and boost your
confidence I am
Mike and I'm Emma today's episode is all
about boosting your confidence
immediately whether you're preparing for
a job interview getting ready to speak
in front of a group or simply wanting to
feel better about yourself we've got
some tips for you that's right Emma
we've all experienced moments of
self-doubt but the good news is there
are ways to tackle that and feel more
confident in just a few minutes so let's
Dive Right In Mike let's start with a
simple but powerful tip body language
did you know that how you stand or sit
can actually influence how you feel
absolutely it's called the power pose
when you stand or sit up straight
shoulders back and chest out it sends a
message to your brain that you're
confident even if you're not feeling it
yet exactly it might sound silly but
standing like a superhero for Just 2
minutes can really boost your mood and
confidence give it a try next time
you're feeling nervous I use this
technique before important
meetings it's surprising how something
so simple can make such a big
difference another effective method is
positive selft talk how often do we tell
ourselves I'm not good enough or I can't
do this way too often and that kind of
thinking just feeds our
insecurities Instead try saying things
like I've got this or I'm capable and
ready it might feel strange at first but
it really works our brains tend to
believe what we repeatedly tell them so
why not tell yourself something
positive that's a great Point Emma I
like to use affirmations in the morning
it sets a positive tone for the rest of
the day what's one of your go to
affirmations Mike I am confident and I
can handle anything that comes my way
it's simple but powerful another quick
confidence boost is
visualization imagine yourself
succeeding at whatever you're about to
do picture it in detail visualization is
like a mental
rehearsal athletes use it all the time
if you can see yourself doing well it
becomes easier to actually perform well
exactly if you're nervous about giving a
presentation close your eyes and picture
yourself speaking confidently your
audience engaged and smiling it's
amazing how our brains can't tell the
difference between a real and imagined
experience so why not imagine the best
case scenario I agree visualization is
one of my favorite tools for building
confidence quickly let's talk about
something even simpler breathing when
we're anxious or nervous our breathing
becomes shallow but taking a few deep
breaths can calm your nerves almost
instantly yes deep breathing is like a
reset button for your body inhale deep
deeply through your nose for a count of
four hold it for four and exhale through
your mouth for four it's called box
breathing it's incredible how quickly
this technique can calm your mind and
boost your confidence and it's something
you can do anywhere before a meeting
during a stressful conversation or even
right now while you're listening to us
another tip that might sound superficial
but is very effective dress for
confidence I know exactly what you mean
when you look good you feel good it's
not about wearing the most expensive
clothes but about wearing something that
makes you feel great
exactly even if you're working from home
putting on a nice shirt instead of
staying in pajamas can change how you
feel about your day it's a small change
but it can have a big impact on your
mindset here's another one smile it
might seem too simple but smiling you
even if it's forced can make you feel
happier and more confident it's true
smiling releases endorphins the Feelgood
hormones and when you smile at someone
they usually smile back creating a
positive feedback loop plus when you
smile you appear more approachable and
confident to others which can help in
social
situations so next time you're feeling
nervous try smiling you'll be surprised
at how much it helps
one of the biggest confidence boosters
is simply being prepared if you know
your material well you'll naturally feel
more
confident that's so true whether it's a
speech a job interview or even a
difficult conversation taking the time
to prepare can make a huge difference
and practice is key the more you
practice the more comfortable you become
it's like learning a new skill the more
you do it the better you get exactly if
you're nervous about speaking English
practice speaking in front of a mirror
or with a friend the more you do it the
more confident you'll become another
great way to boost confidence is to
focus on your strengths we often spend
too much time thinking about what we're
not good at instead of celebrating what
we excel at yes make a list of your
strengths and achievements it can be a
great reminder of what you're capable of
it's a powerful exercise whenever I'm
feeling down I look at my list and
remind myself of all the things I've
accomplished it gives me a quick
confidence boost and remember everyone
has strengths it's just a matter of
recognizing them and using them to your
advantage here's an interesting one
learn to accept compliments many of us
tend to downplay compliments but that
actually lowers our
self-esteem that's a great point
instead of saying oh it was nothing try
saying thank you I appreciate it it
helps you internalize the positive
feedback and it also shows that you
value and respect yourself accepting
compliments is a simple way to boost
your confidence
immediately finally one of the most
effective ways to boost your confidence
is to take action when you take a step
towards your goal no matter how small it
builds momentum and conf confidence
exactly the key is to start even if you
don't feel ready confidence often comes
after you take the first step not before
so true remember confidence is like a
muscle the more you use it the stronger
it

gets all right now let's dive into some
really useful vocab vocabulary
self-esteem meaning the way you feel
about yourself and how much you value
yourself example improving your skills

repeat to yourself to encourage and

situation or outcome in your mind to
help you achieve it example before her
presentation she practiced visualization

confidently in front of the audience
mindset meaning the way you think about
things especially your attitude towards
challenges and goals example having a
positive mindset can help you feel more
confident when trying something new
posture meaning the way you hold your
body when sitting or standing example

straight can make you appear more
