- Hey guys, it's Jordan Paige with Millennial Moms, 00:00
and today we're gonna talk about group dates. 00:02
(upbeat music) 00:06
One of the questions that I seem to be getting recently 00:09
is about all of these fun group dates that we're going on, 00:10
who we bring, how we plan 'em, what we do, 00:14
so I thought I'd just do a quick video for all of you moms 00:17
out there who want to do some group dates, as well, 00:19
to help you pull it off seamlessly and oh so fun-ly. 00:22
My first tip is just do it. 00:27
So many people sit there, they're like, 00:30
"But what if nobody wants to come? 00:31
"What if it doesn't go well? 00:33
"What if people don't have fun? 00:34
"Well, this isn't the perfect weekend." 00:35
Stop it. 00:36
Just get out your phone, send a text, and do it. 00:37
Just pick a date and a time and start there. 00:39
Don't do an email, don't call people, just text. 00:42
Welcome to 2017, guys. 00:44
It's the way of communicating. 00:46
When it comes to inviting people, 00:48
you wanna think about personalities that will get along. 00:50
Everybody doesn't have to be best friends with everybody. 00:53
In fact, we recently just threw a huge group date 00:55
with 14 people and there wasn't a single couple 00:58
who knew anybody else in the group except for Bubba and I, 01:01
but by the end of the night, 01:04
everybody walked away best friends, exchanging numbers, 01:05
having a good time, so sometimes group dates 01:07
where people don't know each other are the most fun. 01:09
Now, what to do on a group date. 01:11
My tip is always have food involved 01:13
and have food come first. 01:15
We usually start out with dinner. 01:17
It's a good way to break the ice. 01:19
It gets people talking, it gives people something 01:20
to do with their hands, and let's be honest, 01:22
everybody's hungry and everybody's gotta eat. 01:24
Might as well do it as a group. 01:26
When picking a restaurant, be sure to pick a restaurant 01:27
that has lots of different options. 01:30
You don't want a specific seafood or sushi restaurant 01:31
if there are people in the group who don't like seafood, 01:35
don't like sushi, or are allergic to shellfish. 01:38
You also wanna call ahead to the restaurant 01:40
and make sure they take reservations and make sure 01:42
that they have space to accommodate your group. 01:44
My next tip is to do an activity after dinner. 01:47
Do not go to a movie. 01:49
Do not do it. 01:51
At a movie, you sit there 01:52
staring at the screen for two hours. 01:53
You can't associate with anyone. 01:55
It's not that fun. 01:56
We like to do group dates that are unique and fun. 01:58
Recently we went to dinner and then we went to a comedy club 02:01
and that was such a fun group date, 02:03
because some of our favorite group dates 02:05
have been going to concerts, going to the comedy club. 02:07
We went rollerskating one time. 02:10
We've done laser tag. 02:12
Escape rooms are super fun if you haven't done one of those. 02:14
They basically lock you in a room 02:17
and your group has to solve all these puzzles 02:19
to get out before the timer's up. 02:21
It's really fun. 02:23
Maybe not so much if you're claustrophobic. 02:24
Painting class, dance lessons. 02:25
Just do something fun, but something that's beginner level 02:27
that anybody can do no matter what their skill is 02:30
in that particular category. 02:32
At the end of your group date, 02:35
be sure to take a group picture. 02:36
I am so bad at this. 02:39
I always forget, but it is so fun and it's a good way 02:40
for everybody to connect on social media, 02:42
'cause you can tag each other and follow each other, 02:44
and then of course my personal favorite 02:46
is to take a boomerang, 02:47
because I mean, how entertaining is a boomerang? 02:49
And my last tip is just relax. 02:53
Don't put so much pressure on yourself. 02:55
Sometimes people want these group dates to be perfect 02:56
or they wanna throw a dinner party 02:59
at their house and have little name cards 03:01
and all these perfect little things. 03:03
Just relax. 03:04
People just wanna have fun. 03:05
Enjoy it, relax, and it will be a great time. 03:06
I think group dates are so important, 03:09
especially for moms because it gives you an opportunity 03:10
to get out of the house and maybe to meet new people 03:13
or to strengthen relationships with other people. 03:16
It makes life way more fun when you have friends, 03:19
and group dates are a good way to take pressure off 03:21
of one on one interaction but still have a good social time. 03:23
So there you go. 03:26
Get out there, try some group dates. 03:27
Let me know how it goes. 03:28
This is actually gonna be my last Millennial Moms video. 03:29
I am moving on to focus on my own blog and YouTube channel, 03:32
which is Fun, Cheap, or Free. 03:35
The information's in the description below. 03:36
I'm gonna miss you guys, I really am, 03:38
but be sure to watch yesterday's video 03:40
and you can see all my other videos. 03:42
I've got dozens and dozens of them, 03:44
and be sure to subscribe. 03:45
Stick around, don't go anywhere. 03:47
See you guys on the flip side. 03:48
Get out there and have some fun, guys. 03:50
Bye. 03:52
I'm sweaty from laughing so hard because that was awesome. 03:53
That was great. 03:56

Key Grammar Structures

  • One of the questions that I seem to be getting recently is about all of these fun group dates that we're going on.

➔ Relative Clause with 'that', Present Continuous Tense

➔ The sentence uses a **relative clause** ('that I seem to be getting recently') to provide additional information about the 'questions'. The verb phrase 'are going on' is in the **present continuous** to describe an ongoing activity.

  • Stop it.

    ➔ Imperative Mood

➔ This is a direct **imperative** command, used to tell someone to stop doing something. It's a very forceful and direct way of speaking.

  • Everybody doesn't have to be best friends with everybody.

➔ Negative Construction with 'doesn't', Double Negatives (though acceptable in informal speech)

➔ The sentence uses a **negative construction** with 'doesn't' to state that it's not necessary for everyone to be close friends. While technically a **double negative** ('doesn't have to'), it's common in informal English.

  • Do not do it.

➔ Imperative Mood with 'Do not'

➔ This is a strong **imperative** command, using 'Do not' for emphasis. It's a direct instruction not to engage in a particular activity.
