this video takes us on a journey where a 00:00
crumbling Castle becomes a stunning 00:02
fourstar Hotel two friends with no prior 00:04
construction experience purchased a 00:09
castle that had been abandoned for over 00:11
30 years taking on the Monumental task 00:13
of renovating it they had no idea of the 00:16
challenges they were about to face the 00:19
place a complete wreck barely standing 00:21
but to them it was the chance of a 00:25
lifetime 5 years of work no formal 00:28
training harsh weather and a global 00:31
pandemic these are only some of the 00:34
hurdles they will 00:36
encounter can they pull off the 00:38
impossible let's dive in and find 00:41
out Ted Castle sits quietly in the 00:45
Rolling Hills of corz in the south 00:48
central region of France it's an old 00:51
Place full of history and has stood the 00:53
test of 00:56
time this C Castle has a fascinating 00:58
past during World War I it was used as a 01:01
hospital caring for the wounded and 01:05
later in World War II it became a 01:08
college where students kept learning 01:10
even in the toughest of 01:12
times but now the castle isn't what it 01:15
used to be large parts of it have fallen 01:18
apart and it's been abandoned for 01:21
years Francis and benois two old friends 01:26
who grew up together found out the 01:29
castle in south central France was up 01:31
for sale for just 01:33
$170,000 at first they thought it might 01:38
make a great private home even with all 01:40
the wear and tear but once they saw the 01:43
place up close they realized the project 01:46
was going to be bigger than they'd 01:48
imagined that's when the idea hit 01:50
them turn it into a fourstar hotel so 01:53
they could Finance the extensive 01:57
renovation 01:59
the decision was Final the two friends 02:01
took on personal debts to secure the 02:04
purchase and once they were all in a 02:06
thrilling Journey 02:09
began to kick things off they called in 02:10
local Artisans and companies for 02:13
estimates the initial budget came in at 02:16
around $2 02:18
million however as we'll see later the 02:20
final bill would be much much 02:23
higher the two friends are beginning the 02:28
demolition phase on their 02:30
own benois comes from a business 02:33
background and Francis has worked in 02:36
water management but neither of them has 02:38
any experience in 02:41
construction this only makes the 02:43
challenge even greater and much 02:45
riskier still they manag to handle some 02:49
of the Interior work surprisingly 02:53
well but it doesn't take long before 02:56
they realize they need to call in 02:58
Professionals for the more complex 03:00
tasks the pros arrive with heavy 03:03
machinery ready to speed things up and 03:07
get the job 03:09
done the demolition team now faces their 03:11
biggest challenge yet taking down the 03:14
old chapel which is in a dangerously 03:17
poor 03:20
State the task is carried out using the 03:22
excavator requiring precise movements to 03:25
carefully remove the stones and beams 03:28
all while ensuring the structure doesn't 03:31
collapse onto the 03:33
machine the consequences of a bad 03:40
execution can be 03:42
fatal at one point it comes dangerously 03:47
close but after a tense operation the 03:56
job is finally 03:59
complete the initial purchase of the 04:05
castle funded through personal debt 04:07
reflects their full commitment to the 04:10
project however as renovation costs 04:14
piled up they needed a creative way to 04:17
raise funds so they opened the venture 04:19
to public 04:22
investment thanks to the online 04:24
popularity of the initiative they 04:26
received contributions from from 500 04:28
people across more than 20 countries 04:30
turning Spectators into 04:33
co-owners work also begins on the roof 04:36
they carefully remove the tiles to 04:40
inspect the condition of the carpentry 04:42
[Music] 04:45
underneath to finish off the first phase 04:51
by removing the roof tiles they even 04:54
have to tackle one of the chimneys which 04:57
is leaking all over the 04:59
place once the damaged parts are out the 05:04
carpentry must be 05:07
repaired after so many years of neglect 05:10
the existing beams are extensively 05:13
deteriorated some parts of the wood have 05:15
even rotted causing instability problems 05:18
Bonnet a company specializing in Roofing 05:22
is taking care of strengthening the roof 05:25
framework the facade s covering more 05:28
than 1,000 square m were in desperate 05:30
need of a full 05:34
restoration years of harsh weather have 05:36
taken their toll on the castle Stones 05:38
leaving the joints which serve to bind 05:41
the structure and protect its interior 05:44
in a state of severe 05:46
deterioration this wear and tear allowed 05:49
moisture to seep in making it necessary 05:51
to use a jackhammer to expose the 05:54
underlying Stone ensuring the new mortar 05:56
will adhere properly and providing 06:00
stronger protection for the facade in 06:02
the years to 06:05
come but this state is also due to human 06:06
presence the castle which served as a 06:10
refuge and fortress on the plateau 06:13
surrounding the city until the 19th 06:15
century eventually fell into disrepair 06:17
and became somewhat of a squat with a 06:21
multitude of furniture scattered in 06:23
different apartments the guys not only 06:25
have to straighten the exist in beams 06:28
they must also reinforce parts of the 06:31
woodwork that are 06:33
unusable some are rotten and some are 06:35
broken so the best will be to replace 06:38
them all this involves creating a new 06:40
Timber structure to ensure that the roof 06:43
is stable and secure before reshingling 06:46
with the exterior work well underway the 06:50
focus now shifts inside the castle walls 06:53
we are now stepping into the main 06:57
building building where they're 06:59
beginning to map out the layout for the 07:00
future 07:02
hotel in the main building guests will 07:05
find the hotel's entrance and main hall 07:07
adjacent to it is the seminar space 07:11
designed for special events on the upper 07:13
floors there will be guest rooms 07:16
spanning the entire level and in the 07:18
main tower the Crown Jewel of the 07:21
property two spectacular and luxurious 07:23
suits connecting the two tow hours will 07:27
be a wing that houses a bar area which 07:29
transitions into the newly built 07:32
restaurant located exactly where the old 07:35
chapel once 07:37
stood as the demolition pushes forward 07:39
the scale of the work becomes clear one 07:43
of the biggest obstacles a massive 07:46
Boulder buried in the main building is 07:48
carefully removed using a strap attached 07:50
to an excavator making way for more 07:53
progress inside 07:56
with the debris piling up you can 07:59
finally start to see the space opening 08:01
up piece by 08:04
piece using a hydraulic breaker attached 08:08
to an excavator they begin breaking 08:11
through the tough floor to prepare the 08:14
space for the next stage of 08:16
construction with a decent amount of 08:19
interior demolition still ahead Francis 08:21
and benoa start thinking about the next 08:24
crucial step Masonry 08:26
[Music] 08:30
to bring their vision of the hotel 08:32
layout to life they know it will require 08:34
extensive brick work and structural 08:37
rebuilding for this they put their trust 08:39
in the experts from Freemasonry Rya the 08:42
Masons arrive just in time for a 08:46
critical moment after demolishing the 08:48
old chapel the wall between the two 08:51
towers became unstable with significant 08:53
structural Integrity issues threatening 08:56
the entire 08:58
Chateau their focus is on rebuilding 09:00
this vital 09:03
[Music] 09:05
wall using concrete and a transversal 09:07
beam they reinforce the structure and 09:10
eliminate the need for intermediate 09:13
ground posts however they are only 09:15
rebuilding the upper portion of the wall 09:18
leaving the lower section open for a 09:21
future connection to a new 09:23
building the 09:25
restaurant with the Demolition 09:27
and crucial structural reinforcements 09:29
complete we return to ground level in 09:32
the building that will soon host the 09:36
seminar 09:37
space benois is now behind the controls 09:39
of a mini excavator working to remove 09:43
one of the last 09:46
Boulders after a couple of attempts he 09:48
finally 09:51
succeeds you can tell he's still 09:53
learning but his construction skills are 09:56
improving rap rapidly with every 09:58
[Music] 10:02
pass concrete is carefully poured into 10:04
the foundation to form a solid column 10:07
this will be the main support for the 10:11
upper 10:13
floors a truck loaded with gravel 10:14
arrives the gravel is spread across the 10:18
ground to form the base before the 10:21
concrete slab is poured this layer is 10:23
crucial once the the gravel is leveled 10:27
it's time for the installation of 10:30
[Music] 10:32
pipes next a layer of plastic sheeting 10:34
is placed to act as a moisture barrier 10:37
followed by a wire mesh for 10:40
reinforcement ultimately they pour the 10:43
concrete and carefully spread it across 10:46
the entire 10:49
surface proper distribution of the 10:50
concrete is crucial to prevent cracks in 10:52
the future this slab covering 50 s m on 10:55
the west side of the building marks a 11:00
significant milestone in the renovation 11:02
process winter has finally arrived 11:07
blanketing the Chateau with a layer of 11:10
snow that transforms it into a 11:12
breathtaking postcard 11:15
[Music] 11:16
scene but beneath this beauty lies A new 11:18
challenge the snowfall complicates the 11:22
work for the two friends and their team 11:25
as the cold settles in they face the 11:28
intricate task of filling the gaps 11:31
between the ancient 11:33
Stones they use a time- tested mixture 11:36
hot lime mortar made by heating lime 11:39
until it turns into a powder then 11:42
blending it with water cement and 11:44
sand this centuries old technique is 11:48
essential for historic structures 11:51
allowing the stone walls to breathe and 11:54
preventing the buildup of damaging 11:57
moisture 11:58
in the workshop Francis and benois are 12:03
crafting the rebar that will form the 12:06
backbone of the main 12:08
beam this beam isn't just another part 12:10
of the 12:13
structure it's the critical support that 12:14
will hold up the first floor directly 12:17
above what will become the Seminary 12:19
space support posts and formwork beams 12:25
are installed to Bear the immense weight 12:28
of the first floor slab while the 12:31
concrete is still 12:33
fresh the slab itself spans 120 sare M 12:36
and weighs over 60 12:40
tons with that kind of weight it 12:44
obviously demanded extensive 12:46
preparation this first floor will house 12:52
seven guest rooms each offering 12:54
picturesque views of the surrounding 12:56
Park 12:58
[Music] 13:00
the concrete slab is poured in half a 13:01
day but the preparation for it took 13:04
several days and it was very timec 13:07
consuming the team carefully repeats 13:13
each step lifting the structure one 13:15
floor higher as the second floor will 13:18
follow the same layout as the 13:20
first concrete typically sets enough to 13:23
be carefully walked on after 48 hours 13:25
but but it remains far too weak to 13:28
remove the form work or supports at this 13:30
stage they waited 3 weeks before 13:35
removing the props and formwork ensuring 13:38
the structure had the strength to stand 13:40
on its 13:42
own removing form work especially from 13:45
overhead or vertical sections requires 13:49
caution panels and supports can be heavy 13:52
and awkward to handle increasing the 13:55
risk of accidents 13:57
especially in older structures where the 13:59
environment might be less 14:01
predictable once the formwork is off the 14:04
exposed concrete is carefully inspected 14:07
for any cracks uneven surfaces or 14:09
[Music] 14:15
imperfections the first batch of Windows 14:19
was delivered by defix a small family 14:21
business in the 14:24
region Francis and benois are committ to 14:26
making the renovation as sustainable as 14:29
possible these windows for example are 14:32
made out of wood sourced from a local 14:34
Sawmill located just 15 km from where 14:37
the wood is 14:40
cut with each unit weighing around 75 Kg 14:44
a lot of Manpower is needed to get them 14:49
installed Now we move to the exterior of 14:54
the main tower 14:57
during the demolition phase they were 15:00
surprised to find the tower in excellent 15:02
condition with strong walls and an 15:05
almost perfect state of 15:07
preservation the roof however needs some 15:11
reshingling so they hired an expert 15:14
roofing company to take on the challenge 15:17
but they soon received unexpected 15:20
news the company that was supposed to do 15:23
the work went bankrupt and Francis and 15:25
Ben w are left completely stranded they 15:28
have to make a tough decision either do 15:31
the work themselves or start the process 15:34
of finding another company all over 15:37
again they decide to take on the task 15:42
themselves with the help of their 15:45
friends Danielle and Fabian who have 15:47
experience with 15:49
Roofing the task Begins by removing the 15:55
old tiles from the iCal roof they pry 15:57
each tile loose and toss them from the 16:00
top of the 16:03
tower vertical wooden beams are placed 16:08
first evenly spaced to match the natural 16:11
curve of the 16:14
roof next they install horizontal 16:19
battens carefully nailing them across 16:22
the vertical supports 16:24
the wooden framework now takes shape a 16:30
complex grid that will hold the Slate 16:33
tiles 16:35
[Music] 16:38
securely each tile is meticulously cut 16:41
to fit using slate shears a tool 16:44
designed for precision this ensures a 16:47
snug placement that follows the roof's 16:50
curve perfectly 16:52
[Music] 16:56
after all the result is a structure 17:01
built to endure while preserving the 17:03
historic character of the 17:06
castle 3 years have gone by and the 17:08
castle has transformed 17:12
dramatically what was once a crumbling 17:14
ruin is now beginning to show its true 17:17
potential walls have been restored new 17:20
structures have materialized and the 17:23
vision is gradually coming to life 17:26
but now the tension 17:30
begins restoring the Spire of the second 17:32
tower is a make or break 17:35
moment the project faces a critical 17:38
Choice should they take on the dangerous 17:41
task of renovating it in place high 17:43
above the ground or bring it down to 17:46
ground 17:48
level they choose the 17:51
latter a crane is brought in to carry 17:56
out the job and the operation Begins the 17:58
original materials are in such bad 18:02
condition that the Spire can crumble at 18:04
any moment before lifting the Spire The 18:07
Operators secure the straps and 18:10
reinforce the structure by removing the 18:12
zinc pieces and adding wooden 18:14
supports every movement has to be 18:17
precise if they are to bring it down 18:20
safely the moment has 18:23
arrived the crane operator slowly begins 18:26
lifting the Spire from its base while 18:28
two workers stand by guiding and 18:31
communicating every movement with 18:33
pinpoint 18:35
Precision this is the most delicate 18:37
stage of the process if the Spire slips 18:39
or tilts too far it would be lost 18:42
forever and an Irreplaceable piece of 18:45
History would be reduced to 18:48
Rubble on site the tension is 18:53
undeniable each adjust of the rivets and 18:57
every slight sway is testing their 18:59
nerves to the 19:01
Limit but finally after what felt like 19:03
an eternity the Spire begins to lower 19:06
inch by inch until it touches the 19:10
ground they have done it one of the most 19:15
challenging moments of the entire 19:18
renovation has ended in 19:20
success with the Spire now on the ground 19:22
the crane moves off the site 19:25
however it won't be long before they 19:29
need it back to raise the Spire again 19:31
after the 19:34
restoration they are following the same 19:37
steps they used to restore the conic 19:39
roof of the main tower but this time 19:42
they work with much more ease without 19:45
the struggle and risk that came with 19:48
dangling from Great 19:50
Heights they even managed to recover and 19:52
restore the final a decorative element 19:55
that also serves as a lightning 19:58
rod despite the progress made on the 20:01
exterior of the castle the interior 20:03
still has a long way to 20:06
go currently we find ourselves in the 20:09
building that will eventually become the 20:12
main hall the project faced an 20:14
unexpected challenge when the covid-19 20:17
pandemic hit making it difficult to 20:19
secure funding especially for ventures 20:22
in the hospitality and restoration 20:25
sectors 20:27
it also caused significant delays due to 20:31
disruptions in the supply 20:33
chain originally the hotel was scheduled 20:37
to open in 2021 but these difficulties 20:40
forced them to postpone the 20:43
launch however these setbacks came with 20:46
an unexpected Advantage they allowed our 20:49
two protagonists to take on more tasks 20:52
themselves this not not only helped 20:57
reduce costs but also allowed them to 20:59
maintain greater control over the 21:01
project as a 21:04
[Music] 21:05
whole the Spire has been fully restored 21:10
and the crane returns to complete the 21:14
second part of the mission lifting the 21:16
Spire back into its original 21:18
position just like when it was lowered 21:24
this task requires surgical precision as 21:27
the risks remain the 21:30
same if it were to fall all the time and 21:33
money invested in its restoration would 21:37
be lost in an 21:39
instant weighing 2.5 tons the Spire 21:42
begins its ascent and once again the 21:45
tension is 21:48
palpable they need to be extra cautious 21:51
ensuring that the straps and Chains 21:54
Don't damage the fragile zinc tiles that 21:56
have just has been 21:58
installed the mission is truly a team 22:01
effort with members positioned in 22:04
strategic spots to monitor the 22:06
maneuver with surgical Precision the 22:10
crane operator prudently lifts the Spire 22:13
above the 22:15
tower The Descent is being Guided by 22:18
those on the scaffolding who have the 22:20
perfect vantage point to ensure every 22:23
inch is aligned with clear communication 22:25
they make sure the Spire descends 22:29
smoothly without any 22:31
errors eventually the Spire settled into 22:33
its exact 22:37
position the operation was a complete 22:39
success it was an incredibly complex 22:42
task but everything unfolded exactly as 22:45
planned with the final tiles being 22:49
scrupulously put into place the 22:51
restoration of the entire castle roof is 22:54
now complete 22:57
[Music] 22:58
it's nothing short of a remarkable 23:00
accomplishment especially when you 23:02
consider the state of the roof when the 23:04
castle was first 23:06
purchased in the main hall 20 cm of 23:09
concrete are poured to complete the 23:13
first floor 23:15
slab before raising the second floor 23:18
they took the time to inspect the wooden 23:20
beams hoping they could be reused but 23:22
found them completely rotten 23:25
leaving no choice but to cut them out 23:28
and throw them 23:31
away simultaneously the Elevator Shaft 23:33
construction moves ahead steadily coming 23:36
together on the first floor as the day 23:39
of opening draws nearer work inside the 23:42
castle 23:45
intensifies with every detail now 23:46
becoming 23:49
defined with all the rotten beams 23:50
removed the preparation of the new main 23:53
beam starts which will bear the weight 23:55
of the top 23:58
floor with this final slab in place the 24:00
seminar and main hall building now have 24:03
all its floors connected and 24:06
completed to celebrate the team tossed a 24:09
coin backward into the fresh concrete 24:12
for good luck followed by a 24:14
well-deserved 24:16
dinner with the Castle's interior 24:18
shaping up it's easy to forget what lies 24:20
Beyond these stone 24:23
walls but step outside and a new 24:25
challenge 24:28
awaits ahead they have the most 24:30
ambitious solo masonry project they have 24:32
taken on so 24:35
far here they'll rebuild a 40 m long 24:37
stone wall a structure that will restore 24:40
the Park's historical 24:43
character following techniques passed 24:48
down through generations they use string 24:50
lines and measuring tools to ensure 24:53
Precision aligning each stone with hair 24:55
to recreate the slightly inclined design 24:58
that Echoes the original 25:01
layout but the restoration of the park 25:04
will not end here later the two friends 25:07
have a plan for this outdoor space a 25:10
traditional French 25:13
garden French Gardens are all about 25:16
neatness and balance they use straight 25:18
Pathways carefully trimmed Hedges and 25:21
flowers arranged in perfect patterns 25:24
this style became popular in the 17th 25:28
century and was often a symbol of wealth 25:31
and power the goal was to show control 25:33
over nature making everything look 25:36
precise and 25:39
orderly for the castle adding a French 25:42
garden will bring a sense of classic 25:45
Beauty connecting the Park's future to 25:47
its historic past the final stone is 25:50
laid with this last piece the 40m walls 25:54
stands 25:58
complete but their work is far from over 25:59
now they concentrate on another 26:03
important piece of the park the arch 26:05
door the segmental arch used for 26:08
centuries in castles and bridges is both 26:11
beautiful and practical its curved 26:14
design is made to distribute the weight 26:16
across each Stone evenly ensuring the 26:18
structure stands the test of 26:21
time rebuilding the arch requires 26:23
precision and patience 26:26
using a wooden support frame each stone 26:29
is thoughtfully positioned to form a 26:32
perfect 26:34
curve just as it would have been 26:35
centuries 26:37
ago as the framework is removed the arch 26:38
Stands 26:41
Tall another step forward in restoring 26:43
the Castle's historic 26:45
grounds as the last bit of mortar is 26:49
applied the wall is now complete 26:51
restored and ready for the years to come 26:54
what was once broken has now been 26:58
precisely repaired piece by 27:00
piece at this point the spotlight turns 27:04
inward to a new space full of 27:07
potential this will soon be a place 27:11
where guests gather relax and share 27:13
stories a bar area that will become the 27:16
Castle's Social 27:19
Hub initially estimated at $2 million 27:22
the Project's cost has now doubled to 27:26
near nearly 4 million this increase was 27:27
due to several 27:31
challenges the Castle's 27:32
foundations walls and Roofing were in 27:35
worse condition than expected requiring 27:37
extensive repairs Rising material costs 27:40
driven by supply chain issues during the 27:44
pandemic also added to 27:47
expenses meanwhile the second floor 27:50
above the bar area is being prepared 27:53
which will host the hotel's guest room 27:56
rooms once this is complete All That 27:58
Remains are the Suites in the main tower 28:01
where we head 28:05
next before they can pour the concrete 28:08
slab for the first floor of the main 28:11
tower the ground floor ceiling needs to 28:13
be secured with temporary 28:16
supports the original first floor is in 28:18
bad condition and the weight of the new 28:21
slab could cause it to 28:23
buckle with with the supports installed 28:26
the workers exchange glances nervous 28:29
about whether everything will 28:32
hold they'll have to wait and see if 28:34
their work is strong enough to Bear the 28:36
weight nerves are running High Francis 28:41
ever watchful heads to the main tower to 28:45
oversee the process and to make sure 28:47
everything runs smoothly during the 28:49
concrete 28:51
poure concrete begins to flow 28:55
the supports seem to hold firm and with 28:59
the last layer poured the first floor of 29:01
the tower is 29:04
complete next is the second 29:06
floor without missing a beat they move 29:09
on to setting up the formwork to make 29:11
the second floor a 29:14
reality the main tower is where the 29:16
hotel's two most exclusive Suites will 29:18
be 29:20
located One Suite will occupy the first 29:21
floor and above it the other will be a 29:24
duplex spanning two floors and offering 29:27
around 45 square m of luxury this duplex 29:30
Suite will be the Crown Jewel of the 29:34
hotel as they work on this crucial part 29:38
of the project it's important to 29:41
remember that Towers have always been 29:43
symbols of power and 29:45
Status centuries later this Tower is 29:48
Rising once again reflecting the 29:51
chateau's enduring strength and history 29:53
we can finally start to see how this 29:58
Suite is going to play out the duplex 30:00
Suite will feature a cozy living room 30:03
upstairs accessed by the original 30:06
staircase of the tower a piece of the 30:08
Castle's history preserved in this 30:11
modern 30:13
renovation with the concrete set and the 30:15
second floor complete the next task is 30:18
to strip away the old layers covering 30:21
the 30:23
walls using automatic hammers they chip 30:25
off years of paint and plaster 30:29
uncovering the original Stone 30:32
underneath as the temperature drops they 30:35
take a well-deserved break gathering 30:37
around the fireplace to warm up it's a 30:40
brief pause before they dive back to 30:42
work things are starting to look better 30:47
but yet another challenge is waiting for 30:50
Francis and 30:52
benois they need to create proper access 30:54
to the 30:57
suite the existing access is far too 30:58
small and very impractical for modern 31:01
standards to fix this they need to knock 31:06
down a part of the tower wall to create 31:09
a new doorway it's no simple task the 31:11
door will be over 2 m high and 1.6 M 31:15
deep and the thick ancient stonework 31:18
requires careful handling to prevent the 31:20
structure from collapsing 31:23
here it is the first hole wide enough 31:29
for benois to pass 31:31
through the goal is to dismantle and 31:34
rebuild parts of the wall to ensure 31:37
stability making sure the weight is 31:39
evenly distributed as they create the 31:42
new 31:44
passage this new doorway will provide 31:46
access from The Suite to the neighboring 31:49
building which on the ground floor 31:51
houses the bar and above it two floors 31:53
of guest room 31:57
rooms it's a crucial connection linking 32:00
the suite with the rest of the 32:03
hotel but as challenging as it is 32:08
there's a special detail that makes this 32:11
project even more meaningful while 32:13
demolishing the chapel a historical 32:16
Stone was discovered in the 32:18
ruins a stone with a red cross that 32:21
dates back to the time of the Templars 32:24
possibly the 12th 32:26
[Music] 32:28
Century the Knights Templar were a 32:31
medieval Christian military order known 32:33
for their role in the Crusades and for 32:36
protecting pilgrims traveling to the 32:38
Holy Land their distinctive Red Cross 32:40
became a symbol of their power and 32:43
influence often featured in the 32:45
architecture of their fortifications and 32:47
places of 32:50
worship this discovery adds a new layer 32:52
of intrigue to the Castle's history it's 32:55
possible that the Templars had a direct 32:58
influence on the original construction 33:00
of this 33:03
Chateau from now on by incorporating 33:04
this ancient stone into the new doorway 33:07
a piece of that history is being 33:10
preserved allowing the past to live on 33:12
within the Castle's modern 33:15
transformation taking advantage of the 33:19
favorable weather attention transitions 33:21
to building the new Terrace they begin 33:24
by clearing out the outside removing 33:27
debris and preparing the area for New 33:29
Foundations the Terrace will be wide 33:34
extending across the front of the bar 33:36
and to the edge of the building creating 33:39
a spacious outdoor area for future 33:41
guests they also plan to add a small 33:45
garden along the Terrace 33:48
Edge most likely a space that will soon 33:51
become a favorite spot for guests to 33:53
relax and enjoy the shadow at's 33:56
surroundings snow blankets The Chateau 34:02
once again and progress continues 34:05
despite the 34:07
[Music] 34:08
cold a new set of Windows has arrived 34:11
this time for the ground 34:15
floor this weather brings its own set of 34:18
challenges tools freeze up the stone 34:22
becomes slick with ice and the cold 34:25
bites at the worker's hands yet the crew 34:28
presses on knowing that each completed 34:31
task brings them closer to the end 34:34
goal The Chateau is now sealed against 34:37
the cold keeping the project on 34:40
track inside the staircase is nearly 34:44
complete they are installing the last 34:49
step left salvaged from the original 34:52
Castle during demolition 34:54
the new elevator is also fully 34:59
installed as the chateau's 35:03
transformation advances it's time to 35:05
head back inside to the first floor 35:08
Suite in the main 35:11
tower here they uncover another 35:13
challenge the fireplace a once Grand 35:16
feature of the room is in bad condition 35:19
with its structure on the verge of 35:22
collapse to preserve it the two friends 35:25
carefully disassemble and restore the 35:28
original Stones aiming to rebuild the 35:30
chimney as a decorative 35:33
piece though it won't be functional it 35:35
remains an important part of the room's 35:39
character work advances steadily as 35:44
wooden beams are secured within the 35:47
gabled roof reinforcing the structure in 35:49
harmony with its original design steel 35:52
profiles start to rise form ing the 35:55
internal partitions that will Define the 35:58
space Fel plates are used made from 36:00
Gypsum and recycled paper to establish 36:04
the walls staying true to their 36:07
commitment to 36:09
sustainability on the last floor there 36:11
are multiple spaces including one with 36:14
Windows overlooking the 36:17
park the structure grows more defined as 36:19
the last panels are secured this dual 36:22
wall system while dividing spaces 36:25
represents the attention to detail 36:28
needed to create a Serene fourstar 36:30
environment back on the first floor 36:36
laser levels are used for guidance and 36:38
precision ensuring that each steel 36:41
profile is aligned 36:43
flawlessly step by step the rooms 36:45
emerge insulation follows with 36:51
biosourced cellulose injected into the 36:54
cavities 36:57
this eco-friendly material adds a vital 36:58
layer of thermal and acoustic insulation 37:01
helping to regulate temperature while 37:04
dampening noise between 37:06
rooms as the cellulose settles into 37:08
place rock wool panels are gradually 37:11
fitted within the wall framework 37:13
enhancing the sound proofing even 37:16
further ensuring that each room remains 37:18
a sanctuary of peace and 37:20
quiet as the ceiling is enclosed the 37:24
outline of the guest Suites becomes more 37:27
tangible the true shape of the chatau 37:32
begins to emerge each step through the 37:35
upper and lower floors reveals the 37:38
distinct spaces that will soon welcome 37:40
guests hallways that guide you rooms 37:45
that invite rest and shared areas that 37:48
will become the heart of this renewed 37:51
landmark 37:53
Dylan from seon visited to guide Francis 37:58
and benois through the proper Plastering 38:01
techniques right there in the 38:03
Chateau he demonstrated the essentials 38:06
maintaining the right distance mastering 38:10
smoothing techniques and ensuring that 38:12
the plaster adheres without 38:15
bubbles with each pass of the trowel 38:18
Francis and benois continue to learn 38:21
embracing the process through trial and 38:24
error 38:26
they're proving themselves to be true 38:28
all-rounders capable of handling any 38:30
challenge this renovation throws at 38:33
them at this stage with the skills honed 38:36
and confidence gained their work 38:39
reflects their clear 38:42
transformation they're ready to take on 38:43
every room as if they'd been Craftsman 38:46
all their 38:49
lives at long last the moment they've 38:50
all eagerly awaited has arrived the star 38:54
part of the restaurant's 38:57
construction until now every task has 38:59
been about restoring the past but this 39:02
marks the first time Francis and benoa 39:05
can create something from a blank canvas 39:08
giving them the freedom to shape this 39:11
vital space for the hotel's future the 39:12
crew gets to work organizing the 39:15
essential Utility Systems for the 39:18
kitchen water points gas networks and 39:20
all the connections needed to make this 39:23
area fully functional 39:25
once everything is in place they pour 39:29
the cement to form the 39:31
slab taking advantage of this stage to 39:34
also lay the foundation for the Terrace 39:37
where guests will one day enjoy 39:40
breathtaking 39:42
views but inside the Chateau there's 39:44
still a great deal of work ahead Francis 39:47
and benois take on the demanding task of 39:51
preparing the space for the electrical 39:54
and climate control 39:56
installations with determination they 39:59
drill the necessary holes set up the 40:02
ducts and pass countless meters of 40:05
cables that need to reach every corner 40:07
of the hotel it's a painstaking process 40:09
ensuring each wire is perfectly roted 40:13
and carefully hidden between ceilings 40:16
and Floors preserving the chateau's 40:18
aesthetic 40:20
charm as they work they prepare the 40:23
tubes that will connect to the 40:26
ventilation units making sure everything 40:28
is ready for the installation 40:30
ahead to conclude they position these 40:34
ventilation systems high above in the 40:37
ceilings but work here never stops 40:40
across the floors self-leveling cement 40:43
is being 40:46
applied this special mixture is designed 40:47
to flow naturally filling in any uneven 40:50
areas to create a perfectly smooth and 40:53
level surface 40:56
moving on thermal insulation panels made 41:01
of wood fiber are carefully laid across 41:04
the floor providing an essential barrier 41:06
against temperature changes floorboards 41:09
are then installed and a layer of 41:12
adhesive mortar is spread using a 41:15
notched trowel creating grooves that 41:17
will enhance the bond between the tiles 41:20
and the surface one by one the tiles are 41:22
placed forming the final design of the 41:26
floor also leveling wedges ensure the 41:29
tiles remain at the same 41:32
height in due course a grout mixture is 41:36
then applied filling the spaces between 41:39
each tile sealing the surface and adding 41:41
the concluding 41:44
detail as the attention is now on the 41:46
bathroom it's clear that this stage is 41:48
more than just 41:51
construction these final refinements are 41:52
what truly Define the space it's in 41:55
these details the choice of tiles the 41:58
precise alignment the careful 42:01
installation of fixtures that the 42:03
character of The Chateau starts to 42:05
emerge every element contributes to the 42:08
overall feel that future visitors will 42:11
experience these are the features that 42:14
will transform this Castle from a 42:16
renovation project into a welcoming 42:18
space in the end it's often the These 42:24
Fine elements that make the difference 42:27
because they're what guests will see use 42:29
and 42:32
remember the first colors start to 42:36
appear as the walls are painted soft 42:38
pastel tones like green and blue are 42:42
chosen to complement the white in the 42:45
upper rooms the choice shifts from tiles 42:48
to 42:51
parquet we watch as each bit of parquet 42:52
is carefully placed and fitted 42:55
seamlessly together adding a warm and 42:57
natural feel to these spaces this 43:00
flooring not only brings Elegance but 43:03
also offers a cozy contrast to the 43:06
[Music] 43:09
rooms a stunning transformation unfolds 43:11
as large format tiles inspired by 43:15
wallpaper are installed on the 43:18
walls with their textured surface they 43:21
add a sophisticated and luxurious 43:24
refiner 43:26
ment using suction cups and clamps the 43:28
workers carefully position each piece 43:32
ensuring a Flawless 43:34
fit the Precision required is immense 43:37
but once in place the effect is 43:41
breathtaking it's been nearly 5 years 43:46
since Francis and benois took on this 43:48
immense challenge the biggest project of 43:50
their lives through countless obstacles 43:53
crumbling walls freezing Winters the 43:57
pandemic and endless hours of Labor 44:01
they've worked tirelessly to bring this 44:04
chatau back to life at this point the 44:06
Chateau is no longer just a project but 44:10
an almost finished fourstar Hotel soon 44:13
the rooms and hallways that were once 44:17
mere ideas will welcome their first 44:19
clients and the Chateau will stand as 44:21
proof of their resilience 44:24
this journey filled with trials and 44:27
triumphs is far from over but with the 44:30
end in sight the vision of what this 44:33
Chateau will become is clearer than ever 44:36
with the interior nearing completion the 44:39
time has come to step outside and tackle 44:42
the next phase of this incredible 44:44
journey finishing the 44:47
Terrace they begin by laying the 44:49
foundation for the Terrace using a 44:51
highly engineered system provided by 44:54
jeup plat 44:56
large gray ceramic slabs will eventually 44:58
cover the surface but first they install 45:01
metal rails across the base these rails 45:04
are supported by adjustable pedestals 45:07
designed to ensure a perfectly level 45:10
surface and accommodate any unevenness 45:12
in the 45:15
ground what sets these tiles apart are 45:17
the acoustic rubber strips installed 45:20
underneath these strips reduce resonance 45:23
absorb sound and creating a quieter more 45:26
solid feel when walking across the 45:30
surface the system is also designed to 45:33
prevent frost damage a crucial feature 45:36
in the often harsh cores climate with 45:39
the Terrace nearly finished we stay 45:42
outside but this time we find ourselves 45:44
in front of the main Arch leading to 45:47
what will become the French garden here 45:50
they begin the meticulous work of 45:54
creating the Stone path from 45:56
scratch the first step is to lay down 45:59
the large foundational Stones these 46:02
Stones serve as the framework providing 46:05
both structure and stability once the 46:08
large stones are in place the spaces are 46:11
filled in with smaller deliberately 46:13
selected 46:16
Pebbles these smaller stones are set 46:18
into the gaps creating a mosaic like 46:20
surface this method known as Cobblestone 46:24
Paving dates back centuries and was 46:27
commonly used for roads and Pathways 46:30
across Europe with all the pebbles in 46:33
place a protective sealant is applied 46:35
enhancing their durability and giving 46:38
them a subtle shine to conclude the 46:41
final stroke a beautifully crafted 46:44
wooden emblem bearing the chateau's name 46:47
is placed in the 46:49
center work begins on transforming the 46:52
grounds into a beautiful French garden 46:55
using detailed plans from their 46:59
landscaper the layout is marked with 47:01
ropes to define the future flower beds 47:03
and 47:06
Pathways to prepare the ground for 47:08
spring they lay biodegradable tarps over 47:11
the soil these tarps designed to 47:14
eliminate weeds and protect the Earth 47:17
through the winter will naturally 47:20
decompose leaving no Trace behind 47:22
after years of restoration a new chapter 47:27
begins for the Chateau for the first 47:30
time they are building something 47:33
entirely from scratch the 47:35
restaurant the restaurant is being built 47:38
where the chapel once stood a space that 47:41
holds centuries of history is now being 47:44
transformed into a place where people 47:47
will gather and share new memories over 47:49
delicious 47:52
[Music] 47:53
food with the carpentry delivered there 47:54
is no time to waste piece by piece the 47:57
skeleton of the restaurant starts to 48:01
materialize to the right will be the 48:04
restaurant's dining area capable of 48:06
Hosting up to 150 guests and to the left 48:09
the kitchen a modern state-of-the-art 48:12
space that will serve as the Beating 48:15
Heart of this new 48:17
[Music] 48:19
edition integrating the new restaurant 48:21
space into the existing Chateau is no 48:23
easy feat 48:26
the architectural Styles must match and 48:27
the materials must complement each other 48:30
the restaurant is set to be the first 48:33
part of the hotel to open before any 48:35
visitor sleeps in a suite they'll eat 48:38
here but time is not on their side in 48:41
just 3 months the restaurant doors are 48:45
supposed to open and the clock is 48:47
ticking everyone is fully focused there 48:51
is no time to lose 48:54
the plaster boards arrive and the team 48:57
moves quickly these boards will form the 48:59
walls and partitions defining the 49:02
spaces outside the exterior is being 49:08
transformed with long horizontal wooden 49:11
slats creating a sleek and modern facade 49:14
that contrasts with the Old Stone of the 49:18
Chateau Up on the Roof the Carpenters 49:21
are busy preparing a structure to 49:23
conceal the ventilation systems making 49:25
sure the view from the ground remains 49:28
just as elegant as the rest of the 49:30
building after constructing a sturdy 49:33
homemade support structure the heavy 49:35
equipment is carefully hoisted onto the 49:38
roof with the units now in place they 49:41
are cleverly hidden from view at ground 49:44
level returning inside more work awaits 49:47
the pressure is mounting everyone from 49:51
the construction crew to the 49:53
restaurant's future chef and staff is 49:55
pitching in to push the project 49:58
forward each step brings them closer to 50:01
the finish line but the clock is ticking 50:03
and the opening day gets 50:06
nearer with the floor tiled and the 50:09
doors installed it's a good time to see 50:12
how this topnotch kitchen is going to 50:14
look not long from 50:16
now at the heart of the kitchen is a 50:19
state-of-the-art all El electric cooking 50:22
unit specially ordered from Paris 50:24
its Sleek design and Cutting Edge 50:28
technology will allow the chefs to work 50:30
efficiently while delivering quality 50:33
meals the unit is incredibly heavy 50:38
requiring careful maneuvering to get it 50:41
into 50:43
place once secured this Powerhouse will 50:44
drive the entire kitchen ensuring it is 50:48
ready to serve food at the highest 50:51
standard the bar has now been installed 50:53
the wooden finish surrounding it brings 50:56
warmth and texture to the 50:59
[Music] 51:01
room to complete the bars transformation 51:02
a Sleek marble countertop is 51:06
installed as the marble is carefully 51:11
placed things are starting to look 51:13
good the restaurant chairs have arrived 51:18
and everything seems to be going on time 51:21
for the grand opening the only thing 51:23
left are a few last installations and 51:26
the shelving unit at the center of the 51:29
bar at the same time adhesive film is 51:33
being applied to the windows the light 51:37
at the end of the tunnel is finally in 51:40
sight and the anticipation is 51:42
growing while work continues inside the 51:46
restaurant's toilet efforts are 51:48
refocused 51:51
outside it's paven time bringing the 51:53
shat to's exterior one step closer to 51:56
completion heavy machinery moves in to 52:00
lay down a layer of gravel that merges 52:02
with the 52:05
Terrace to pave the outside area Francis 52:06
and benois have chosen herbaly a Cutting 52:09
Edge tinted permeable material unlike 52:12
traditional asphalt herbaly allows 52:16
rainwater to filter through reducing 52:18
runoff and promoting groundwater 52:21
recharge it's a modern eco-friendly 52:24
solution and its tinted finish also 52:27
gives the courtyard a soft elegant 52:30
appearance this journey has been 52:34
Monumental but Francis and benois 52:36
haven't undertaken it 52:39
alone they've had the unwavering support 52:41
of both the local community and a global 52:44
online 52:47
[Music] 52:48
audience their YouTube Channel website 52:50
and social media platforms have 52:53
documented every step drawing in people 52:55
from all over the 52:58
[Music] 53:00
world as the exterior work nears 53:05
completion the turn comes for the 53:07
entrance to the Hotel this entryway will 53:09
be the first point of 53:12
contact designed with glass on all sides 53:16
it will provide access to the reception 53:20
of the 53:22
hotel the reception is quickly 53:23
transformed into a welcoming space but 53:25
there is no time to 53:28
relax in the kitchen the cooks are busy 53:30
testing the equipment under pressure by 53:33
this time it's all about the final 53:36
adjustments from the smallest fixtures 53:40
to the finishing touches everything must 53:43
be 53:46
perfect you can feel the anticipation 53:48
building as everyone works together 53:51
knowing the restaurant's grand opening 53:54
is just just around the 53:56
[Music] 53:57
corner the day has finally arrived after 54:00
years of hard work countless challenges 54:04
and unwavering dedication the chatau 54:07
opens its doors to the public for the 54:10
first time for now it's the restaurant 54:12
but they hope the entire Hotel will 54:16
follow 54:18
soon the space that was built from the 54:22
ground up is welcoming its first 54:24
customers marking a new chapter in the 54:27
chateau's long history there's a sense 54:29
of pride in the air and everyone is 54:32
ready for a remarkable 54:35
evening the opening day was a resounding 54:41
success but while the restaurant was 54:44
taking Center Stage work inside the 54:46
Chateau continued at full speed all in 54:49
preparation for the exciting moment when 54:52
the hotel itself will open its 54:55
doors soon the entire Chateau will come 54:59
to life marking the completion of this 55:03
extraordinary 55:06
Journey our two protagonists can hardly 55:10
contain their excitement as they step 55:13
into the newly installed elevator now 55:15
fully functional it's a small moment but 55:18
for them it means the 55:21
world as the elevator doors Glide open 55:24
the reception area comes into view 55:28
bright elegant and welcoming with its 55:30
carefully chosen furnishings and warm 55:33
lighting heading up the stairs we find 55:38
the first floor and we finally get to 55:40
see the furnished and finished 55:42
rooms step by step room by room this 55:49
Chateau has been brought back from the 55:53
brink for five long years this Chateau 55:54
has been their world a place of endless 55:58
challenges sleepless nights and 56:01
unwavering 56:04
determination they faced Winters so cold 56:05
their tools froze in their hands walls 56:08
so unstable they threatened to collapse 56:11
and obstacles that seemed 56:13
unsuper now walking these Halls stepping 56:16
into these rooms the dream they clung to 56:19
through it all has 56:23
materialized the shot to is no longer 56:24
just a vision it's a Triumph a proof of 56:27
what can be achieved when you refuse to 56:31
let 56:33
go outside the Chateau shines proudly 56:36
transformed into a magnificent fourstar 56:40
hotel for Francis and benois this is 56:45
just the beginning of a new chapter 56:48

[English]
this video takes us on a journey where a
crumbling Castle becomes a stunning
fourstar Hotel two friends with no prior
construction experience purchased a
castle that had been abandoned for over
30 years taking on the Monumental task
of renovating it they had no idea of the
challenges they were about to face the
place a complete wreck barely standing
but to them it was the chance of a
lifetime 5 years of work no formal
training harsh weather and a global
pandemic these are only some of the
hurdles they will
encounter can they pull off the
impossible let's dive in and find
out Ted Castle sits quietly in the
Rolling Hills of corz in the south
central region of France it's an old
Place full of history and has stood the
test of
time this C Castle has a fascinating
past during World War I it was used as a
hospital caring for the wounded and
later in World War II it became a
college where students kept learning
even in the toughest of
times but now the castle isn't what it
used to be large parts of it have fallen
apart and it's been abandoned for
years Francis and benois two old friends
who grew up together found out the
castle in south central France was up
for sale for just
$170,000 at first they thought it might
make a great private home even with all
the wear and tear but once they saw the
place up close they realized the project
was going to be bigger than they'd
imagined that's when the idea hit
them turn it into a fourstar hotel so
they could Finance the extensive
renovation
the decision was Final the two friends
took on personal debts to secure the
purchase and once they were all in a
thrilling Journey
began to kick things off they called in
local Artisans and companies for
estimates the initial budget came in at
around $2
million however as we'll see later the
final bill would be much much
higher the two friends are beginning the
demolition phase on their
own benois comes from a business
background and Francis has worked in
water management but neither of them has
any experience in
construction this only makes the
challenge even greater and much
riskier still they manag to handle some
of the Interior work surprisingly
well but it doesn't take long before
they realize they need to call in
Professionals for the more complex
tasks the pros arrive with heavy
machinery ready to speed things up and
get the job
done the demolition team now faces their
biggest challenge yet taking down the
old chapel which is in a dangerously
poor
State the task is carried out using the
excavator requiring precise movements to
carefully remove the stones and beams
all while ensuring the structure doesn't
collapse onto the
machine the consequences of a bad
execution can be
fatal at one point it comes dangerously
close but after a tense operation the
job is finally
complete the initial purchase of the
castle funded through personal debt
reflects their full commitment to the
project however as renovation costs
piled up they needed a creative way to
raise funds so they opened the venture
to public
investment thanks to the online
popularity of the initiative they
received contributions from from 500
people across more than 20 countries
turning Spectators into
co-owners work also begins on the roof
they carefully remove the tiles to
inspect the condition of the carpentry
[Music]
underneath to finish off the first phase
by removing the roof tiles they even
have to tackle one of the chimneys which
is leaking all over the
place once the damaged parts are out the
carpentry must be
repaired after so many years of neglect
the existing beams are extensively
deteriorated some parts of the wood have
even rotted causing instability problems
Bonnet a company specializing in Roofing
is taking care of strengthening the roof
framework the facade s covering more
than 1,000 square m were in desperate
need of a full
restoration years of harsh weather have
taken their toll on the castle Stones
leaving the joints which serve to bind
the structure and protect its interior
in a state of severe
deterioration this wear and tear allowed
moisture to seep in making it necessary
to use a jackhammer to expose the
underlying Stone ensuring the new mortar
will adhere properly and providing
stronger protection for the facade in
the years to
come but this state is also due to human
presence the castle which served as a
refuge and fortress on the plateau
surrounding the city until the 19th
century eventually fell into disrepair
and became somewhat of a squat with a
multitude of furniture scattered in
different apartments the guys not only
have to straighten the exist in beams
they must also reinforce parts of the
woodwork that are
unusable some are rotten and some are
broken so the best will be to replace
them all this involves creating a new
Timber structure to ensure that the roof
is stable and secure before reshingling
with the exterior work well underway the
focus now shifts inside the castle walls
we are now stepping into the main
building building where they're
beginning to map out the layout for the
future
hotel in the main building guests will
find the hotel's entrance and main hall
adjacent to it is the seminar space
designed for special events on the upper
floors there will be guest rooms
spanning the entire level and in the
main tower the Crown Jewel of the
property two spectacular and luxurious
suits connecting the two tow hours will
be a wing that houses a bar area which
transitions into the newly built
restaurant located exactly where the old
chapel once
stood as the demolition pushes forward
the scale of the work becomes clear one
of the biggest obstacles a massive
Boulder buried in the main building is
carefully removed using a strap attached
to an excavator making way for more
progress inside
with the debris piling up you can
finally start to see the space opening
up piece by
piece using a hydraulic breaker attached
to an excavator they begin breaking
through the tough floor to prepare the
space for the next stage of
construction with a decent amount of
interior demolition still ahead Francis
and benoa start thinking about the next
crucial step Masonry
[Music]
to bring their vision of the hotel
layout to life they know it will require
extensive brick work and structural
rebuilding for this they put their trust
in the experts from Freemasonry Rya the
Masons arrive just in time for a
critical moment after demolishing the
old chapel the wall between the two
towers became unstable with significant
structural Integrity issues threatening
the entire
Chateau their focus is on rebuilding
this vital
[Music]
wall using concrete and a transversal
beam they reinforce the structure and
eliminate the need for intermediate
ground posts however they are only
rebuilding the upper portion of the wall
leaving the lower section open for a
future connection to a new
building the
restaurant with the Demolition
and crucial structural reinforcements
complete we return to ground level in
the building that will soon host the
seminar
space benois is now behind the controls
of a mini excavator working to remove
one of the last
Boulders after a couple of attempts he
finally
succeeds you can tell he's still
learning but his construction skills are
improving rap rapidly with every
[Music]
pass concrete is carefully poured into
the foundation to form a solid column
this will be the main support for the
upper
floors a truck loaded with gravel
arrives the gravel is spread across the
ground to form the base before the
concrete slab is poured this layer is
crucial once the the gravel is leveled
it's time for the installation of
[Music]
pipes next a layer of plastic sheeting
is placed to act as a moisture barrier
followed by a wire mesh for
reinforcement ultimately they pour the
concrete and carefully spread it across
the entire
surface proper distribution of the
concrete is crucial to prevent cracks in
the future this slab covering 50 s m on
the west side of the building marks a
significant milestone in the renovation
process winter has finally arrived
blanketing the Chateau with a layer of
snow that transforms it into a
breathtaking postcard
[Music]
scene but beneath this beauty lies A new
challenge the snowfall complicates the
work for the two friends and their team
as the cold settles in they face the
intricate task of filling the gaps
between the ancient
Stones they use a time- tested mixture
hot lime mortar made by heating lime
until it turns into a powder then
blending it with water cement and
sand this centuries old technique is
essential for historic structures
allowing the stone walls to breathe and
preventing the buildup of damaging
moisture
in the workshop Francis and benois are
crafting the rebar that will form the
backbone of the main
beam this beam isn't just another part
of the
structure it's the critical support that
will hold up the first floor directly
above what will become the Seminary
space support posts and formwork beams
are installed to Bear the immense weight
of the first floor slab while the
concrete is still
fresh the slab itself spans 120 sare M
and weighs over 60
tons with that kind of weight it
obviously demanded extensive
preparation this first floor will house
seven guest rooms each offering
picturesque views of the surrounding
Park
[Music]
the concrete slab is poured in half a
day but the preparation for it took
several days and it was very timec
consuming the team carefully repeats
each step lifting the structure one
floor higher as the second floor will
follow the same layout as the
first concrete typically sets enough to
be carefully walked on after 48 hours
but but it remains far too weak to
remove the form work or supports at this
stage they waited 3 weeks before
removing the props and formwork ensuring
the structure had the strength to stand
on its
own removing form work especially from
overhead or vertical sections requires
caution panels and supports can be heavy
and awkward to handle increasing the
risk of accidents
especially in older structures where the
environment might be less
predictable once the formwork is off the
exposed concrete is carefully inspected
for any cracks uneven surfaces or
[Music]
imperfections the first batch of Windows
was delivered by defix a small family
business in the
region Francis and benois are committ to
making the renovation as sustainable as
possible these windows for example are
made out of wood sourced from a local
Sawmill located just 15 km from where
the wood is
cut with each unit weighing around 75 Kg
a lot of Manpower is needed to get them
installed Now we move to the exterior of
the main tower
during the demolition phase they were
surprised to find the tower in excellent
condition with strong walls and an
almost perfect state of
preservation the roof however needs some
reshingling so they hired an expert
roofing company to take on the challenge
but they soon received unexpected
news the company that was supposed to do
the work went bankrupt and Francis and
Ben w are left completely stranded they
have to make a tough decision either do
the work themselves or start the process
of finding another company all over
again they decide to take on the task
themselves with the help of their
friends Danielle and Fabian who have
experience with
Roofing the task Begins by removing the
old tiles from the iCal roof they pry
each tile loose and toss them from the
top of the
tower vertical wooden beams are placed
first evenly spaced to match the natural
curve of the
roof next they install horizontal
battens carefully nailing them across
the vertical supports
the wooden framework now takes shape a
complex grid that will hold the Slate
tiles
[Music]
securely each tile is meticulously cut
to fit using slate shears a tool
designed for precision this ensures a
snug placement that follows the roof's
curve perfectly
[Music]
after all the result is a structure
built to endure while preserving the
historic character of the
castle 3 years have gone by and the
castle has transformed
dramatically what was once a crumbling
ruin is now beginning to show its true
potential walls have been restored new
structures have materialized and the
vision is gradually coming to life
but now the tension
begins restoring the Spire of the second
tower is a make or break
moment the project faces a critical
Choice should they take on the dangerous
task of renovating it in place high
above the ground or bring it down to
ground
level they choose the
latter a crane is brought in to carry
out the job and the operation Begins the
original materials are in such bad
condition that the Spire can crumble at
any moment before lifting the Spire The
Operators secure the straps and
reinforce the structure by removing the
zinc pieces and adding wooden
supports every movement has to be
precise if they are to bring it down
safely the moment has
arrived the crane operator slowly begins
lifting the Spire from its base while
two workers stand by guiding and
communicating every movement with
pinpoint
Precision this is the most delicate
stage of the process if the Spire slips
or tilts too far it would be lost
forever and an Irreplaceable piece of
History would be reduced to
Rubble on site the tension is
undeniable each adjust of the rivets and
every slight sway is testing their
nerves to the
Limit but finally after what felt like
an eternity the Spire begins to lower
inch by inch until it touches the
ground they have done it one of the most
challenging moments of the entire
renovation has ended in
success with the Spire now on the ground
the crane moves off the site
however it won't be long before they
need it back to raise the Spire again
after the
restoration they are following the same
steps they used to restore the conic
roof of the main tower but this time
they work with much more ease without
the struggle and risk that came with
dangling from Great
Heights they even managed to recover and
restore the final a decorative element
that also serves as a lightning
rod despite the progress made on the
exterior of the castle the interior
still has a long way to
go currently we find ourselves in the
building that will eventually become the
main hall the project faced an
unexpected challenge when the covid-19
pandemic hit making it difficult to
secure funding especially for ventures
in the hospitality and restoration
sectors
it also caused significant delays due to
disruptions in the supply
chain originally the hotel was scheduled
to open in 2021 but these difficulties
forced them to postpone the
launch however these setbacks came with
an unexpected Advantage they allowed our
two protagonists to take on more tasks
themselves this not not only helped
reduce costs but also allowed them to
maintain greater control over the
project as a
[Music]
whole the Spire has been fully restored
and the crane returns to complete the
second part of the mission lifting the
Spire back into its original
position just like when it was lowered
this task requires surgical precision as
the risks remain the
same if it were to fall all the time and
money invested in its restoration would
be lost in an
instant weighing 2.5 tons the Spire
begins its ascent and once again the
tension is
palpable they need to be extra cautious
ensuring that the straps and Chains
Don't damage the fragile zinc tiles that
have just has been
installed the mission is truly a team
effort with members positioned in
strategic spots to monitor the
maneuver with surgical Precision the
crane operator prudently lifts the Spire
above the
tower The Descent is being Guided by
those on the scaffolding who have the
perfect vantage point to ensure every
inch is aligned with clear communication
they make sure the Spire descends
smoothly without any
errors eventually the Spire settled into
its exact
position the operation was a complete
success it was an incredibly complex
task but everything unfolded exactly as
planned with the final tiles being
scrupulously put into place the
restoration of the entire castle roof is
now complete
[Music]
it's nothing short of a remarkable
accomplishment especially when you
consider the state of the roof when the
castle was first
purchased in the main hall 20 cm of
concrete are poured to complete the
first floor
slab before raising the second floor
they took the time to inspect the wooden
beams hoping they could be reused but
found them completely rotten
leaving no choice but to cut them out
and throw them
away simultaneously the Elevator Shaft
construction moves ahead steadily coming
together on the first floor as the day
of opening draws nearer work inside the
castle
intensifies with every detail now
becoming
defined with all the rotten beams
removed the preparation of the new main
beam starts which will bear the weight
of the top
floor with this final slab in place the
seminar and main hall building now have
all its floors connected and
completed to celebrate the team tossed a
coin backward into the fresh concrete
for good luck followed by a
well-deserved
dinner with the Castle's interior
shaping up it's easy to forget what lies
Beyond these stone
walls but step outside and a new
challenge
awaits ahead they have the most
ambitious solo masonry project they have
taken on so
far here they'll rebuild a 40 m long
stone wall a structure that will restore
the Park's historical
character following techniques passed
down through generations they use string
lines and measuring tools to ensure
Precision aligning each stone with hair
to recreate the slightly inclined design
that Echoes the original
layout but the restoration of the park
will not end here later the two friends
have a plan for this outdoor space a
traditional French
garden French Gardens are all about
neatness and balance they use straight
Pathways carefully trimmed Hedges and
flowers arranged in perfect patterns
this style became popular in the 17th
century and was often a symbol of wealth
and power the goal was to show control
over nature making everything look
precise and
orderly for the castle adding a French
garden will bring a sense of classic
Beauty connecting the Park's future to
its historic past the final stone is
laid with this last piece the 40m walls
stands
complete but their work is far from over
now they concentrate on another
important piece of the park the arch
door the segmental arch used for
centuries in castles and bridges is both
beautiful and practical its curved
design is made to distribute the weight
across each Stone evenly ensuring the
structure stands the test of
time rebuilding the arch requires
precision and patience
using a wooden support frame each stone
is thoughtfully positioned to form a
perfect
curve just as it would have been
centuries
ago as the framework is removed the arch
Stands
Tall another step forward in restoring
the Castle's historic
grounds as the last bit of mortar is
applied the wall is now complete
restored and ready for the years to come
what was once broken has now been
precisely repaired piece by
piece at this point the spotlight turns
inward to a new space full of
potential this will soon be a place
where guests gather relax and share
stories a bar area that will become the
Castle's Social
Hub initially estimated at $2 million
the Project's cost has now doubled to
near nearly 4 million this increase was
due to several
challenges the Castle's
foundations walls and Roofing were in
worse condition than expected requiring
extensive repairs Rising material costs
driven by supply chain issues during the
pandemic also added to
expenses meanwhile the second floor
above the bar area is being prepared
which will host the hotel's guest room
rooms once this is complete All That
Remains are the Suites in the main tower
where we head
next before they can pour the concrete
slab for the first floor of the main
tower the ground floor ceiling needs to
be secured with temporary
supports the original first floor is in
bad condition and the weight of the new
slab could cause it to
buckle with with the supports installed
the workers exchange glances nervous
about whether everything will
hold they'll have to wait and see if
their work is strong enough to Bear the
weight nerves are running High Francis
ever watchful heads to the main tower to
oversee the process and to make sure
everything runs smoothly during the
concrete
poure concrete begins to flow
the supports seem to hold firm and with
the last layer poured the first floor of
the tower is
complete next is the second
floor without missing a beat they move
on to setting up the formwork to make
the second floor a
reality the main tower is where the
hotel's two most exclusive Suites will
be
located One Suite will occupy the first
floor and above it the other will be a
duplex spanning two floors and offering
around 45 square m of luxury this duplex
Suite will be the Crown Jewel of the
hotel as they work on this crucial part
of the project it's important to
remember that Towers have always been
symbols of power and
Status centuries later this Tower is
Rising once again reflecting the
chateau's enduring strength and history
we can finally start to see how this
Suite is going to play out the duplex
Suite will feature a cozy living room
upstairs accessed by the original
staircase of the tower a piece of the
Castle's history preserved in this
modern
renovation with the concrete set and the
second floor complete the next task is
to strip away the old layers covering
the
walls using automatic hammers they chip
off years of paint and plaster
uncovering the original Stone
underneath as the temperature drops they
take a well-deserved break gathering
around the fireplace to warm up it's a
brief pause before they dive back to
work things are starting to look better
but yet another challenge is waiting for
Francis and
benois they need to create proper access
to the
suite the existing access is far too
small and very impractical for modern
standards to fix this they need to knock
down a part of the tower wall to create
a new doorway it's no simple task the
door will be over 2 m high and 1.6 M
deep and the thick ancient stonework
requires careful handling to prevent the
structure from collapsing
here it is the first hole wide enough
for benois to pass
through the goal is to dismantle and
rebuild parts of the wall to ensure
stability making sure the weight is
evenly distributed as they create the
new
passage this new doorway will provide
access from The Suite to the neighboring
building which on the ground floor
houses the bar and above it two floors
of guest room
rooms it's a crucial connection linking
the suite with the rest of the
hotel but as challenging as it is
there's a special detail that makes this
project even more meaningful while
demolishing the chapel a historical
Stone was discovered in the
ruins a stone with a red cross that
dates back to the time of the Templars
possibly the 12th
[Music]
Century the Knights Templar were a
medieval Christian military order known
for their role in the Crusades and for
protecting pilgrims traveling to the
Holy Land their distinctive Red Cross
became a symbol of their power and
influence often featured in the
architecture of their fortifications and
places of
worship this discovery adds a new layer
of intrigue to the Castle's history it's
possible that the Templars had a direct
influence on the original construction
of this
Chateau from now on by incorporating
this ancient stone into the new doorway
a piece of that history is being
preserved allowing the past to live on
within the Castle's modern
transformation taking advantage of the
favorable weather attention transitions
to building the new Terrace they begin
by clearing out the outside removing
debris and preparing the area for New
Foundations the Terrace will be wide
extending across the front of the bar
and to the edge of the building creating
a spacious outdoor area for future
guests they also plan to add a small
garden along the Terrace
Edge most likely a space that will soon
become a favorite spot for guests to
relax and enjoy the shadow at's
surroundings snow blankets The Chateau
once again and progress continues
despite the
[Music]
cold a new set of Windows has arrived
this time for the ground
floor this weather brings its own set of
challenges tools freeze up the stone
becomes slick with ice and the cold
bites at the worker's hands yet the crew
presses on knowing that each completed
task brings them closer to the end
goal The Chateau is now sealed against
the cold keeping the project on
track inside the staircase is nearly
complete they are installing the last
step left salvaged from the original
Castle during demolition
the new elevator is also fully
installed as the chateau's
transformation advances it's time to
head back inside to the first floor
Suite in the main
tower here they uncover another
challenge the fireplace a once Grand
feature of the room is in bad condition
with its structure on the verge of
collapse to preserve it the two friends
carefully disassemble and restore the
original Stones aiming to rebuild the
chimney as a decorative
piece though it won't be functional it
remains an important part of the room's
character work advances steadily as
wooden beams are secured within the
gabled roof reinforcing the structure in
harmony with its original design steel
profiles start to rise form ing the
internal partitions that will Define the
space Fel plates are used made from
Gypsum and recycled paper to establish
the walls staying true to their
commitment to
sustainability on the last floor there
are multiple spaces including one with
Windows overlooking the
park the structure grows more defined as
the last panels are secured this dual
wall system while dividing spaces
represents the attention to detail
needed to create a Serene fourstar
environment back on the first floor
laser levels are used for guidance and
precision ensuring that each steel
profile is aligned
flawlessly step by step the rooms
emerge insulation follows with
biosourced cellulose injected into the
cavities
this eco-friendly material adds a vital
layer of thermal and acoustic insulation
helping to regulate temperature while
dampening noise between
rooms as the cellulose settles into
place rock wool panels are gradually
fitted within the wall framework
enhancing the sound proofing even
further ensuring that each room remains
a sanctuary of peace and
quiet as the ceiling is enclosed the
outline of the guest Suites becomes more
tangible the true shape of the chatau
begins to emerge each step through the
upper and lower floors reveals the
distinct spaces that will soon welcome
guests hallways that guide you rooms
that invite rest and shared areas that
will become the heart of this renewed
landmark
Dylan from seon visited to guide Francis
and benois through the proper Plastering
techniques right there in the
Chateau he demonstrated the essentials
maintaining the right distance mastering
smoothing techniques and ensuring that
the plaster adheres without
bubbles with each pass of the trowel
Francis and benois continue to learn
embracing the process through trial and
error
they're proving themselves to be true
all-rounders capable of handling any
challenge this renovation throws at
them at this stage with the skills honed
and confidence gained their work
reflects their clear
transformation they're ready to take on
every room as if they'd been Craftsman
all their
lives at long last the moment they've
all eagerly awaited has arrived the star
part of the restaurant's
construction until now every task has
been about restoring the past but this
marks the first time Francis and benoa
can create something from a blank canvas
giving them the freedom to shape this
vital space for the hotel's future the
crew gets to work organizing the
essential Utility Systems for the
kitchen water points gas networks and
all the connections needed to make this
area fully functional
once everything is in place they pour
the cement to form the
slab taking advantage of this stage to
also lay the foundation for the Terrace
where guests will one day enjoy
breathtaking
views but inside the Chateau there's
still a great deal of work ahead Francis
and benois take on the demanding task of
preparing the space for the electrical
and climate control
installations with determination they
drill the necessary holes set up the
ducts and pass countless meters of
cables that need to reach every corner
of the hotel it's a painstaking process
ensuring each wire is perfectly roted
and carefully hidden between ceilings
and Floors preserving the chateau's
aesthetic
charm as they work they prepare the
tubes that will connect to the
ventilation units making sure everything
is ready for the installation
ahead to conclude they position these
ventilation systems high above in the
ceilings but work here never stops
across the floors self-leveling cement
is being
applied this special mixture is designed
to flow naturally filling in any uneven
areas to create a perfectly smooth and
level surface
moving on thermal insulation panels made
of wood fiber are carefully laid across
the floor providing an essential barrier
against temperature changes floorboards
are then installed and a layer of
adhesive mortar is spread using a
notched trowel creating grooves that
will enhance the bond between the tiles
and the surface one by one the tiles are
placed forming the final design of the
floor also leveling wedges ensure the
tiles remain at the same
height in due course a grout mixture is
then applied filling the spaces between
each tile sealing the surface and adding
the concluding
detail as the attention is now on the
bathroom it's clear that this stage is
more than just
construction these final refinements are
what truly Define the space it's in
these details the choice of tiles the
precise alignment the careful
installation of fixtures that the
character of The Chateau starts to
emerge every element contributes to the
overall feel that future visitors will
experience these are the features that
will transform this Castle from a
renovation project into a welcoming
space in the end it's often the These
Fine elements that make the difference
because they're what guests will see use
and
remember the first colors start to
appear as the walls are painted soft
pastel tones like green and blue are
chosen to complement the white in the
upper rooms the choice shifts from tiles
to
parquet we watch as each bit of parquet
is carefully placed and fitted
seamlessly together adding a warm and
natural feel to these spaces this
flooring not only brings Elegance but
also offers a cozy contrast to the
[Music]
rooms a stunning transformation unfolds
as large format tiles inspired by
wallpaper are installed on the
walls with their textured surface they
add a sophisticated and luxurious
refiner
ment using suction cups and clamps the
workers carefully position each piece
ensuring a Flawless
fit the Precision required is immense
but once in place the effect is
breathtaking it's been nearly 5 years
since Francis and benois took on this
immense challenge the biggest project of
their lives through countless obstacles
crumbling walls freezing Winters the
pandemic and endless hours of Labor
they've worked tirelessly to bring this
chatau back to life at this point the
Chateau is no longer just a project but
an almost finished fourstar Hotel soon
the rooms and hallways that were once
mere ideas will welcome their first
clients and the Chateau will stand as
proof of their resilience
this journey filled with trials and
triumphs is far from over but with the
end in sight the vision of what this
Chateau will become is clearer than ever
with the interior nearing completion the
time has come to step outside and tackle
the next phase of this incredible
journey finishing the
Terrace they begin by laying the
foundation for the Terrace using a
highly engineered system provided by
jeup plat
large gray ceramic slabs will eventually
cover the surface but first they install
metal rails across the base these rails
are supported by adjustable pedestals
designed to ensure a perfectly level
surface and accommodate any unevenness
in the
ground what sets these tiles apart are
the acoustic rubber strips installed
underneath these strips reduce resonance
absorb sound and creating a quieter more
solid feel when walking across the
surface the system is also designed to
prevent frost damage a crucial feature
in the often harsh cores climate with
the Terrace nearly finished we stay
outside but this time we find ourselves
in front of the main Arch leading to
what will become the French garden here
they begin the meticulous work of
creating the Stone path from
scratch the first step is to lay down
the large foundational Stones these
Stones serve as the framework providing
both structure and stability once the
large stones are in place the spaces are
filled in with smaller deliberately
selected
Pebbles these smaller stones are set
into the gaps creating a mosaic like
surface this method known as Cobblestone
Paving dates back centuries and was
commonly used for roads and Pathways
across Europe with all the pebbles in
place a protective sealant is applied
enhancing their durability and giving
them a subtle shine to conclude the
final stroke a beautifully crafted
wooden emblem bearing the chateau's name
is placed in the
center work begins on transforming the
grounds into a beautiful French garden
using detailed plans from their
landscaper the layout is marked with
ropes to define the future flower beds
and
Pathways to prepare the ground for
spring they lay biodegradable tarps over
the soil these tarps designed to
eliminate weeds and protect the Earth
through the winter will naturally
decompose leaving no Trace behind
after years of restoration a new chapter
begins for the Chateau for the first
time they are building something
entirely from scratch the
restaurant the restaurant is being built
where the chapel once stood a space that
holds centuries of history is now being
transformed into a place where people
will gather and share new memories over
delicious
[Music]
food with the carpentry delivered there
is no time to waste piece by piece the
skeleton of the restaurant starts to
materialize to the right will be the
restaurant's dining area capable of
Hosting up to 150 guests and to the left
the kitchen a modern state-of-the-art
space that will serve as the Beating
Heart of this new
[Music]
edition integrating the new restaurant
space into the existing Chateau is no
easy feat
the architectural Styles must match and
the materials must complement each other
the restaurant is set to be the first
part of the hotel to open before any
visitor sleeps in a suite they'll eat
here but time is not on their side in
just 3 months the restaurant doors are
supposed to open and the clock is
ticking everyone is fully focused there
is no time to lose
the plaster boards arrive and the team
moves quickly these boards will form the
walls and partitions defining the
spaces outside the exterior is being
transformed with long horizontal wooden
slats creating a sleek and modern facade
that contrasts with the Old Stone of the
Chateau Up on the Roof the Carpenters
are busy preparing a structure to
conceal the ventilation systems making
sure the view from the ground remains
just as elegant as the rest of the
building after constructing a sturdy
homemade support structure the heavy
equipment is carefully hoisted onto the
roof with the units now in place they
are cleverly hidden from view at ground
level returning inside more work awaits
the pressure is mounting everyone from
the construction crew to the
restaurant's future chef and staff is
pitching in to push the project
forward each step brings them closer to
the finish line but the clock is ticking
and the opening day gets
nearer with the floor tiled and the
doors installed it's a good time to see
how this topnotch kitchen is going to
look not long from
now at the heart of the kitchen is a
state-of-the-art all El electric cooking
unit specially ordered from Paris
its Sleek design and Cutting Edge
technology will allow the chefs to work
efficiently while delivering quality
meals the unit is incredibly heavy
requiring careful maneuvering to get it
into
place once secured this Powerhouse will
drive the entire kitchen ensuring it is
ready to serve food at the highest
standard the bar has now been installed
the wooden finish surrounding it brings
warmth and texture to the
[Music]
room to complete the bars transformation
a Sleek marble countertop is
installed as the marble is carefully
placed things are starting to look
good the restaurant chairs have arrived
and everything seems to be going on time
for the grand opening the only thing
left are a few last installations and
the shelving unit at the center of the
bar at the same time adhesive film is
being applied to the windows the light
at the end of the tunnel is finally in
sight and the anticipation is
growing while work continues inside the
restaurant's toilet efforts are
refocused
outside it's paven time bringing the
shat to's exterior one step closer to
completion heavy machinery moves in to
lay down a layer of gravel that merges
with the
Terrace to pave the outside area Francis
and benois have chosen herbaly a Cutting
Edge tinted permeable material unlike
traditional asphalt herbaly allows
rainwater to filter through reducing
runoff and promoting groundwater
recharge it's a modern eco-friendly
solution and its tinted finish also
gives the courtyard a soft elegant
appearance this journey has been
Monumental but Francis and benois
haven't undertaken it
alone they've had the unwavering support
of both the local community and a global
online
[Music]
audience their YouTube Channel website
and social media platforms have
documented every step drawing in people
from all over the
[Music]
world as the exterior work nears
completion the turn comes for the
entrance to the Hotel this entryway will
be the first point of
contact designed with glass on all sides
it will provide access to the reception
of the
hotel the reception is quickly
transformed into a welcoming space but
there is no time to
relax in the kitchen the cooks are busy
testing the equipment under pressure by
this time it's all about the final
adjustments from the smallest fixtures
to the finishing touches everything must
be
perfect you can feel the anticipation
building as everyone works together
knowing the restaurant's grand opening
is just just around the
[Music]
corner the day has finally arrived after
years of hard work countless challenges
and unwavering dedication the chatau
opens its doors to the public for the
first time for now it's the restaurant
but they hope the entire Hotel will
follow
soon the space that was built from the
ground up is welcoming its first
customers marking a new chapter in the
chateau's long history there's a sense
of pride in the air and everyone is
ready for a remarkable
evening the opening day was a resounding
success but while the restaurant was
taking Center Stage work inside the
Chateau continued at full speed all in
preparation for the exciting moment when
the hotel itself will open its
doors soon the entire Chateau will come
to life marking the completion of this
extraordinary
Journey our two protagonists can hardly
contain their excitement as they step
into the newly installed elevator now
fully functional it's a small moment but
for them it means the
world as the elevator doors Glide open
the reception area comes into view
bright elegant and welcoming with its
carefully chosen furnishings and warm
lighting heading up the stairs we find
the first floor and we finally get to
see the furnished and finished
rooms step by step room by room this
Chateau has been brought back from the
brink for five long years this Chateau
has been their world a place of endless
challenges sleepless nights and
unwavering
determination they faced Winters so cold
their tools froze in their hands walls
so unstable they threatened to collapse
and obstacles that seemed
unsuper now walking these Halls stepping
into these rooms the dream they clung to
through it all has
materialized the shot to is no longer
just a vision it's a Triumph a proof of
what can be achieved when you refuse to

just the beginning of a new chapter
