like I'm asking you the 00:02
[Music] 00:04
question. Hello and welcome back to my 00:09
slow English podcast. Today I'm making 00:13
an interview for you to practice 00:17
listening to questions and answers. 00:20
Today we're starting with some 00:25
intermediate questions, moving on to 00:27
advanced questions afterwards. Try and 00:32
follow along as far as you can go. Today 00:35
I'm going to be interviewing and asking 00:39
questions to my sister 00:42
Brianna. So, first of all, where did you 00:46
grow up? Um, I grew up in Norfol, 00:50
Nebraska in the United States. And what 00:54
was your childhood home like? My 00:56
childhood home was very American, you 01:00
know, wooden houses. It was a 01:03
two-bedroom house, one bathroom with a 01:06
basement because where we lived, there 01:09
were a lot of tornadoes. Did the 01:11
basement ever scare you? As a kid, yes, 01:13
it did scare me a lot. Um, when it came 01:16
to going to bed or turning off the 01:19
lights, I would always run back up the 01:22
stairs so monsters wouldn't get me. 01:24
And did you have a favorite toy or 01:27
stuffed animal when you were younger? 01:30
When I was younger, I did have a 01:33
favorite toy. It was a stuffed toy cat. 01:35
It was a Persian cat. She was white and 01:39
fluffy, and I loved her a lot. And what 01:42
was your favorite thing to do as a 01:45
child? My favorite thing to do as a 01:47
child was probably swimming. We enjoyed 01:50
swimming a lot. Wherever I lived, there 01:53
was always a public pool nearby and um 01:57
yeah, we'd spend all all day long when 02:01
it was summer over there. Mhm. And who 02:04
did you enjoy hanging out with the most 02:07
when you were younger? Uh I don't know. 02:09
I enjoyed hanging out with my sister a 02:13
lot. We have a 2-year age difference and 02:15
we always got along really well. It was 02:20
always a great time. Mhm. And where do 02:22
you think your favorite childhood 02:24
memories have been? My favorite 02:26
childhood memories have probably been in 02:29
my second house, which was a house in 02:33
Iowa, one state over from Nebraska. 02:38
And that house was a little bigger. It 02:42
was a I think five bedroomedroom twob 02:45
and I was really excited to move in. So 02:49
was the rest of my family. We created a 02:52
lot of memories with my cousins and with 02:54
new friends. And what was your favorite 02:57
holiday to celebrate as a child? My 02:59
favorite holiday was probably Christmas. 03:02
Christmas was always a big deal from 03:05
where I'm from. It is a very Christian 03:07
community and there was always a big 03:10
fuss about it. Lots of gifts, lots of 03:13
dinners, lots of parties. It was a great 03:16
time. Mhm. And what has been your 03:19
favorite present you've ever received on 03:21
Christmas? My favorite present was 03:24
probably when I got a Ken doll and a 03:27
baby Barbie doll so I could finally have 03:32
a whole family for my Barbie dolls. And 03:35
why did you enjoy playing with Barbies? 03:38
I enjoyed playing with Barbies because 03:41
I've always loved storytelling, I feel. 03:43
And with Barbies, you can be anything. 03:46
You can create anything. So, it was 03:49
always fun that there were no no limits 03:51
to what I could do. Do you remember any 03:54
places that you dreaded visiting when 03:56
you were younger? I can't remember now. 03:59
Maybe a dentist or the doctor or maybe 04:02
even school. A place I dreaded as a kid. 04:05
So, the million-dollar question. I know. 04:09
What was the the place you dreaded 04:13
visiting when you were younger? I 04:15
dreaded visiting. It wasn't so much my 04:18
grandparents house, but in the back of 04:22
my grandparents house when I was a kid, 04:24
there is a chicken coupe and they had a 04:26
few roosters. And the roosters were 04:30
always really mean and would chase me 04:32
around and pick up my legs. So, I didn't 04:35
dread my grandma and grandpa's house, 04:38
but I dreaded seeing the roosters. Mhm. 04:40
Okay. And what was your favorite thing 04:42
about going to your grandpa's farm? My 04:44
favorite thing about going to the farm 04:47
was probably I have two favorite things. 04:49
I enjoyed seeing the animals around the 04:51
farm, especially the pigs, the baby 04:54
pigs. And I also really enjoyed being 04:56
inside my grandparents house because my 05:00
grandma's house had a lot of toys and 05:02
that was really fun. And what was your 05:04
favorite subject in school? My favorite 05:07
subject has probably always been math or 05:10
science because they're my strong suit 05:13
and it was something I could also always 05:18
comprehend and find beauty in. And 05:21
what's some what was your least favorite 05:24
subject in school? My least favorite has 05:26
probably always been social studies and 05:30
history. I do like social studies and 05:32
history, but I kind of like to choose 05:35
the topics that I want to learn about 05:38
and I feel like there's a lot of 05:40
unnecessary information in history 05:42
classes. 05:44
Hot take. Hot take. Did you play any 05:46
sports 05:49
or have any hobbies growing up? Growing 05:51
up, I I had hobbies like swimming, 05:54
volleyball, mostly sporty hobbies. I did 06:00
want to get into musical hobbies, but I 06:04
only ever got to play piano for a few 06:07
years. And what type of musical hobbies 06:08
would you have wanted to get into? I 06:11
probably would have wanted to try 06:14
violin, possibly drums. I feel like my 06:16
sense of rhythm is probably the weakest 06:19
thing um as far as my musical expertise 06:21
goes. So something in that area would 06:26
have been nice. And did you ever get 06:28
into trouble at school? Were you ever 06:29
the troublemaker in school? Not really. 06:31
I was I was a pretty good kid. Maybe you 06:34
were a little bit of a troublemaker. 06:37
A little bit more than you, I guess. A 06:40
little bit more. But what's a moment 06:42
that you can remember where you got in 06:44
trouble at school? something memorable. 06:46
I can't remember specifically trying to 06:49
get into trouble or or being bad, but I 06:52
do remember one time when all the 06:55
students were having a water balloon 06:56
fight. I don't know. I think somebody 06:58
just brought water balloons to school 07:00
and we were all fighting. But for some 07:01
reason, I was singled out and told that 07:04
I can't be doing that or I'd get written 07:06
up and was threatened to talk to my 07:08
parents about it. But I mean, everybody 07:10
was doing it, so I wouldn't say it was 07:13
necessarily a troublemaker thing. Mhm. 07:15
Yeah, I guess that's true. You've never 07:18
gotten into trouble. I can't even think 07:20
of a time. I know. I have a few examples 07:22
that I could think of, but I don't think 07:24
you have any. What was your favorite 07:26
meal or snack as a kid? My favorite 07:28
snack has probably always been, and I 07:32
get hated on a lot for it, celery with 07:34
peanut butter. 07:37
I think it's one of the best snacks. 07:40
It's fresh. You can eat it in the 07:41
summer, in the winter, like whenever. 07:43
And yeah, probably celery and peanut 07:46
butter sticks. Okay. I thought you were 07:49
going to say flaming hot Cheetos. Oh, I 07:52
guess that would be another one of my 07:54
favorite snacks, but now if I eat 07:56
Flaming Hot Cheetos, my stomach really 07:58
hurts. Did you have any chores at home? 08:00
I didn't have many chores, but I had the 08:04
basic ones. doing dishes, taking out the 08:08
trash every once in a while, and just 08:10
making sure the house was picked up. How 08:14
do you think childhood today is 08:16
different from when you were younger? 08:19
Well, obviously a big difference is the 08:21
how technology centered childhood is 08:24
nowadays. Um, most kids have iPads, 08:27
phones, or at least are exposed to it. 08:31
And in my time, the most contact I ever 08:34
had with technology with technology was 08:38
through the TV. Um, but even then, my 08:41
access to TV was limited to one or two 08:45
hours a day. So, I think there's a not a 08:48
lot of creativity and not a lot of 08:53
outdoorsiness to the fun that kids have 08:57
today. It's a lot of being inside and on 08:59
the phone. And what was your favorite 09:03
show when you had your TV time? When I 09:05
had my TV time, I would love to watch 09:08
Adventure Time with Finn and Jake and 09:11
probably also The Amazing World of 09:16
Gumball, Regular Show, and Spongebob 09:19
every once in a while. Those were 09:24
probably my top favorites. Spongebob's a 09:26
gem. And what advice would you give your 09:28
younger self? I would tell my younger 09:31
self 09:33
to not be so afraid that it's okay to 09:34
show who you are and that people are 09:39
going to love you for it. Mhm. Nice. 09:41
Now, what do you think has been your 09:44
favorite age and why? My favorite month. 09:46
My 09:52
favorite or was it a month? 09:54
your perfect date. 09:57
I'd have to say April 25th because it's 10:00
not too hot, not too cold. All you need 10:04
is a light jacket. 10:07
Sorry, ask me again. So, what has been 10:10
your favorite age and why? My favorite 10:12
age, I probably didn't have a favorite 10:15
age, but rather a favorite moment, which 10:18
was when I was about 12 years old. Um, 10:22
and we had to move to Mexico with my 10:26
entire family. Uh, it's my favorite 10:29
moment because I feel like it was a 10:31
pivotal moment in both of our lives and 10:33
it changed us and our family for the 10:37
better. Good age. Good answer. So, can 10:40
you explain what pivotal means? Pivotal 10:43
comes from pivot, which is a sharp turn. 10:47
So, it turned big change. Yes, it was a 10:50
big change. A pivotal change. Pivotal. 10:55
All right. Now, if you could go back to 10:58
one specific moment in your childhood, 11:00
what would it be? What moment would you 11:03
choose? It could be like a Christmas or 11:05
I don't know, a time when you went ice 11:09
skating or I remember for one Christmas 11:11
I came down a little too early. It was 11:14
about 6:00 in the morning and I came 11:17
down and saw the tree and saw that there 11:19
were no gifts and I was very sad and I 11:21
went back upstairs and I fell asleep for 11:24
a couple more hours and when I came down 11:27
uh I saw there were presents under the 11:29
tree and that's when I started to 11:31
suspect what we all 11:34
know. So I would have sent myself back 11:36
to sleep probably. So you would go back 11:39
to that moment to send yourself back to 11:41
sleep? Yes. To keep the magic going. 11:43
I meant like return to the feeling of 11:47
the moment. Oh, well, I thought you were 11:49
like you would want to experience going 11:51
back in time. I thought that's what it 11:53
meant. Oh, well, now I got to think 11:55
about that one. 11:57
I would probably try and go back. I 11:59
believe it was my 8th birthday. I don't 12:02
remember a lot, but whenever I see a 12:05
photo of it, it just really brings up a 12:08
warm fuzzy feeling. Uh, my grandma had 12:10
cooked me a lemon cake for my birthday 12:13
and they were visiting in our house and 12:16
I think I invited two of the neighbors 12:19
that we had around and I was with my 12:22
sister and it was a really nice time. It 12:26
was a simple but fun birthday. Nice. 12:29
Well, thank you, Brianna, for joining me 12:32
on my slow English 12:34

about childhood memories with my sister, 12:39
Brianna. Say thank you, Brianna. Thank 12:43
