POV Day in the Life $100 million 00:00
CEO I'm not even super rich but I'm at a 00:06
point where I don't have to do these 00:09
things it's like business advice in in a 00:10
sauna you know you do entrepreneurship 00:13
or you have jobs so you can create a 00:15
lifestyle if you're worried about the 00:16
day-to-day of your business there's 00:18
probably some core issues holy 00:19
distractions I'm distracted as 00:21
am I doing what I really want to do 00:24
or is it because like I'm chasing like 00:27
more recognition or more fame or more 00:29
money dude I'm tired I'm 00:31
starting to get stage fright from 00:33
expenses how do I say this without sound 00:35
like a total dick kids these days don't 00:37
want to be 00:39
rich all right I think a lot of times I 00:40
we wake up and I'm like okay we have to 00:43
go we have to go or well hurry the hell 00:44
up think of having a little more 00:46
patience that's my word of the Year and 00:47
I love having nothing from like when I 00:49
wake up until noon and that is such a 00:51
luxury and it's just a really nice time 00:53
to be like okay is there anything I have 00:55
to get done or want to get done that's 00:57
outside of the norm or just really let 00:58
me relax into the day how do I say this 01:00
without sound like a total I'm not even 01:02
super rich like I'm trying to also buy a 01:04
car today for my wife but I'm at a point 01:06
where I don't have to do these things so 01:08
it's like what do you really want to be 01:10
doing and I think this is how all of us 01:11
live the lives we want to be living 01:14
where it's do the thing you actually 01:15
want to be doing but it's like making 01:17
content I think this is where we get 01:18
fued up just cuz like you're like hey I 01:19
want to make content cuz I like sharing 01:21
what's going on and then it's like well 01:22
we have to do the content that's going 01:24
to get a lot of views and I just I'm not 01:25
as excited to make that video today and 01:27
you have to balance what you want to 01:30
make with what people want to watch I do 01:31
love making content I think it's just 01:33
being like okay you want to make this 01:34
content or is it just cuz you you have 01:36
to make it or you're supposed to make it 01:37
and so I I try to tell myself to just 01:39
listen to that voice and tempting right 01:41
because you want the money or you want 01:43
the views but I think the more that you 01:44
just stay true to that the better you'll 01:47
feel and if the views come great and if 01:48
not you still at least feel good about 01:50
what you're doing but let's go let's go 01:51
chill on Thea dude I needed like a 01:53
little chill 01:54
sash it's like business advice in in a 01:55
sauna 01:59
I wasn't really looking forward to 02:01
making this video uh and then I was 02:03
supposed to make another video and then 02:05
have a podcast and it's just like why 02:06
you do entrepreneurship or you have jobs 02:09
so you can create a lifestyle I wanted 02:10
to just come like relax just like let my 02:12
mind be empty not have technology not 02:14
have to do video not have to go into 02:16
appsumo meetings I think it's tough when 02:18
you wake up and it's like I got all this 02:20
to do I'm on the phone some slack 02:22
thing happened an email thing happened 02:24
this thing went out and it wasn't 02:26
correct and you kind of just get riled 02:27
up at least I do 02:28
and so again my word of the year is 02:30
patience so trying to just like let's 02:31
come in let's be patient on these things 02:33
and then kind of in a woooo way reenter 02:36
the day and then uh come back I don't 02:38
know you just I feel brighter what do 02:41
you really want in this life how do you 02:42
really want your days to be and be okay 02:45
if if it's not what others want and if 02:46
it's not where you want to be just start 02:48
planting the seeds today to get to that 02:50
point you know I think people miss that 02:51
in businesses like absum was 15 years 02:52
it's not you know it's it's now in high 02:55
school hating its daddy you can't force 02:56
a dream onto someone else dad and so be 02:58
patient that your business takes time to 03:01
mature you know what it is things take 03:04
maintenance and I think we forget that 03:06
sometimes our body takes maintenance 03:07
your house takes maintenance and your 03:09
business takes 03:10
maintenance I would say my job at 03:14
appsumo is to help make sure that the 03:16
people working there are living the 03:18
lives they want to live and I think I 03:19
used to feel guilty like oh I should be 03:21
at the computer working and I should be 03:22
doing this like no I want to live how I 03:23
want to live and within the rest of the 03:24
company I want everyone else feeling 03:26
that way too uh that those are my my Ona 03:27
thoughts of the day is just let go of 03:30
the attachment of these accomplishments 03:31
or these identities we think of for 03:32
ourselves versus what we really feel and 03:34
what we're aware of in a wake with 03:36
ourselves and then secondly uh just be 03:37
grateful and and help all the people 03:39
that are helping you live your own great 03:41
life too I wanted to just call out so 03:43
there's a lady back here helping with 03:44
the 03:47
pool shout out to her it kind of just 03:47
makes me realize like we all need people 03:50
to help us in our lives whether it's to 03:51
coach us or support us or maybe you hire 03:53
them to do things for you and so uh 03:55
sometimes it's just I think that's a lot 03:58
of SE stuff it's like where are you 03:59
going and how can you find other people 04:01
to help you do those things so just want 04:03
to thank all the people I don't know 04:05
where she went helping do things uh in 04:07
my life how do my goals align don't look 04:10
at me private all right next up uh 04:12
because my wife wants breakfast and I'm 04:15
doing it's cool I want to prioritize my 04:17
family so I'm going to be cooking her 04:19
some eggs toast uh and some 04:20
fruta how does this make me feel makes 04:26
me feel like I'm prioritizing what I 04:29
said I'd 04:30
prioritize and taking care of my family 04:31
makes me feel good about myself like I 04:34
think we can all do these things like it 04:36
doesn't you can either make breakfast 04:37
for someone you can call someone but I 04:38
think it's like one of the things that 04:41
make you feel 04:42
selworthy people might be wondering like 04:45
Hey how do you know how suumo is doing 04:47
and I would say when you get to higher 04:49
levels of your business you don't 04:51
necessar if you're worried about the 04:52
day-to-day of your business there's 04:53
probably some like core issues to really 04:55
focus on one of the ways that helps me 04:57
at least at that cuz I go in slack and 04:59
we have a thing called daily pulse and 05:02
so we can share some of the numbers 05:04
blurred out and so even from far away 05:05
just even look far away you see how 05:08
there's like green check marks I just 05:10
come to basically make sure it's like 05:12
everything on track or not and if if 05:13
there's yellow or red I'm going to go 05:14
talk to the the person who owns those 05:16
numbers uh and say hey is everything 05:18
okay and if not see what's going on if 05:20
I'm worried about day-to-day like who 05:23
the people are or how the numbers are 05:24
doing there's something core that needs 05:26
to be worked out in the business that's 05:28
why really haven't even checked in or 05:29
really gotten too involved in abso just 05:31
yet I'm G to do my journaling uh and 05:32
then I'll start getting into some of the 05:34
prep for the abso town hall and checking 05:36
in on things for 05:38
[Music] 05:39
absum I'm going to get into writing when 05:42
I start writing I don't do anything also 05:44
Isaac is here with me I'm writing out 05:46
what's been happening really proud of 05:48
myself for not doing extra filming today 05:49
which is ironic given this is the film 05:50
also for pausing the podcast that I 05:52
didn't want to go out need to make sure 05:53
it doesn't wear out the team but it's 05:54
also good to be aligned and check in 05:56
with how I'm feeling happy I talked to 05:57
my mom in the morning always plus it is 05:58
a check-in but that's what she needs and 06:00
I can do a better job of asking her 06:01
what's going on in her life busy day 06:02
with doctors yesterday definitely miss 06:03
having the assistant do some of this 06:05
work definitely want to get a executive 06:06
assistant or personal assistant to 06:07
support a lot of the basic things that 06:08
I've been doing around the house and 06:09
scheduling way to take your power back 06:10
do the content and videos that you want 06:12
to be doing which videos are those how 06:13
we launch Bree do which is on track for 06:15
seven figures my skincare routine Day in 06:16
the Life videos like this one how are 06:18
you investing in app sumo's future I'm 06:19
excited for Neville's bachelor party W 06:21
woop proud of you for being more mindful 06:23
about my own weight and working on it 06:24
day by day exercise mindful eating and 06:25
consistency is the solution for the 06:27
results you want in business same for 06:28
the relationship maf's car is kind of a 06:30
lot of money at $77,000 it is not cheap 06:31
at all she's going to love the car worst 06:33
case scenario we sell it and lose 10K 06:35
will I notice the money when it's gone 06:36
no this is die with zero man just 06:38
definitely need to support on the taxes 06:39
and the accounting side personally feel 06:40
like not as present are available to do 06:42
those things in those areas I love the 06:43
sway of our tree in our backyard so cool 06:44
to Tri spread roots and with maintenance 06:45
still grow and get bigger I don't mind 06:47
these point of view videos it's very met 06:48
I'm writing about it that's okay they 06:50
have to record four sometimes and just 06:51
dial it in things I'm looking forward to 06:53
this week ride with Ian massagi appsumo 06:54
H2 meeting and my wife pregnancy class 06:56
and nightly walks all things good # 06:58
morning Pages now we're going to go 07:00
upstairs do a little bit of prep work 07:03
for the appsumo meeting finish up the 07:05
million dooll weekend videos I might 07:06
take a break and play Pinball and then 07:08
go for a walk and then get back into the 07:11
appsumo 07:13
meetings oh this is cool just got a 07:15
podcast request to go on Masters of 07:19
scale with Reed Hoffman yes that is sick 07:20
Reed Hoffman is the founder of LinkedIn 07:23
he was an early investor in Facebook 07:25
he's literally a legend in Silicon 07:27
Valley super fire that that's a huge win 07:28
I think what's been interesting is like 07:32
chasing versus being with making content 07:34
and getting on shows and you know having 07:37
the 07:39
book come out where am I doing what I 07:40
really want to do or is it because like 07:44
I'm chasing like more recognition or 07:46
more fame or more money you know what 07:48
kind of content would I pay for us to be 07:50
making and I think those are that's an 07:51
easy way to kind of think about these 07:52
things when people aspire to run a 07:54
million dollar100 million $10,000 07:56
business whatever size it is I think you 07:58
have more satisfaction and more success 08:01
when you're just clear with what parts 08:03
you really enjoy and staying true to 08:04
that throughout the process because I do 08:07
think over time you start doing the 08:09
stuff and you're like man I'm not 08:11
enjoying any of it and so it's something 08:12
I have to kind of keep coming back to 08:14
myself on it's a nice feeling like 08:16
saying no to something which keeps me 08:18
open to available to have something like 08:19
this come up so that that's definitely 08:21
um super nice it's very exciting like 08:24
someone wrote an email saying thank you 08:28
for million doar weekend can we chat for 08:29
15 08:32
minutes holy distractions I'm distracted 08:34
as I don't know if you expect CEOs 08:37
or people that are doing things to be 08:40
distracted but we like to be distracted 08:41
it's important not to guilt yourself for 08:43
it I think if you're not accomplishing 08:44
things or your whole day feels like this 08:46
I think once in a while that's actually 08:48
okay but if your whole day whole weeks 08:49
whole months it feels like you're just 08:51
constantly distracted doing uh not 08:52
moving in a direction you want or not 08:54
accomplishing the things you want uh 08:55
it's good to just kind of like double 08:58
check yourself with that be aware wake 08:59
up and think okay are there any changes 09:01
I want to make here uh that's not 09:03
helping me do the things or get to the 09:04
places I want to be 09:06
[Music] 09:12
going another hack learn how to tie 09:13
faster if you think about where you 09:16
start everything like your bed is where 09:17
you start your computer is where you 09:20
start your hands are where you start I 09:21
think people are trying to learn like 09:23
for new tools and I mean appsumo we're 09:24
the number one place to help sell tools 09:26
so I think it's how do I learn how to 09:28
use the tools more effectively and and 09:30
think about where you're spending a lot 09:31
of your time typing writing maybe 09:33
reading maybe using your trackpad and 09:35
there ways that you can learn how to use 09:37
them more 09:38
efficiently all right I am reading an 09:42
app Sumo email this is a product called 09:44
Eureka research topics valid ideas 09:46
create books so one thing I think about 09:48
when I'm like checking out our emails 09:50
and reading this kind of stuff is are 09:51
you tasting the soup if you're making a 09:53
service if you're making a product if 09:55
you're selling digital whatever it is if 09:57
you're making YouTube is are you 09:58
watching your stuff so for me I like 10:00
watching my own stuff I like reading 10:02
appsumo emails and pay attention when 10:03
you're zoning out pay attention when 10:06
you're not paying attention and that'll 10:07
kind of show you some areas that you can 10:09
work on in your business if you are 10:11
paying attention go be a customer of 10:12
your business and I think you always 10:13
kind of find out new things versus as 10:15
you get further away or as you grow 10:17
businesses you kind of get disconnected 10:18
sometimes from your customers or your 10:20
partners uh and this is a nice way for 10:21
me to make sure that I'm staying 10:23
connected to what appsumo is doing 10:24
[Music] 10:27
we have a town hall in 20 minutes so I 10:31
was reviewing the entire agenda if you 10:34
think about it it's like 100 people 10:36
times their hourly like that's that's a 10:38
very expensive meeting that we're doing 10:40
so we want to make sure that the the 10:42
agenda is super dialed in I'm going to 10:43
go for a quick walk before the meeting 10:45
uh and a lot of great stuff comes that 10:47
it's also just being relaxed every day I 10:48
I appreciate not having to be stressed 10:50
or like full on 100% go and so this is 10:52
this is behind the scenes of what I I 10:55
spend my day doing 10:56
I try to get the hell out of the house 11:00
all the time you know you especially if 11:01
you work from home you're it's 11:03
definitely like okay I'm here I'm here 11:05
I'm here I need to get the hell out of 11:06
it I was kind of just thinking about 11:07
like if people see the POV they're like 11:08
you looked over agendas you double 11:10
checked some numbers and you didn't 11:12
really do anything today a lot of my job 11:14
is okay have we set up a vision for 11:17
appsumo yeah be the number one place to 11:19
distribute tools for solopreneurs so we 11:21
have this like tons of cool stuff we're 11:23
thinking about for the next few years do 11:25
we have a super clear plan for the 11:27
quarter yeah do we have most of the 11:28
right people in place yes and so a lot 11:30
of my my time is not necessarily dealing 11:33
with the day-to-day or the month-to 11:35
month it's more of like the quarter or 11:36
the year or the few years and so my day 11:37
is just kind of making sure everything 11:39
is is on the right track and um a lot of 11:41
my day now is like creating content that 11:44
helps build awareness for appsumo and 11:45
then also hiring some of the new 11:48
Executives within marketing within 11:49
Finance where there's some gaps within 11:51
helping run appsumo it's kind of my 11:53
sweet spot it's my dream like I like 11:55
making content I like marketing I like 11:56
promoting I like what we get to do at AB 11:58
suumo and the amount of involvement I 11:59
get to have so I don't know it was just 12:01
interesting to reflect that when you 12:04
hear this when people talk about it 12:05
like the CEO sets the vision the CEO 12:06
hires the team you're like dude what are 12:10
you talking about aren't you working cuz 12:12
I think when you're starting out you are 12:13
doing all these things and you're like 12:15
what do you mean you you you just set 12:16
the vision you choose the players you 12:18
Cho you know and you you let them do 12:21
their their execution you don't really I 12:22
think it's hard to really connect or 12:24
grasp that I've been really trying to 12:25
extricate myself from day-to-day of the 12:28
the business and I like the Cadence of 12:30
it and kind of part of my job with all 12:32
of it is just like making sure the 12:34
people are happy you know make sure 12:35
you're you're happy make sure your team 12:36
is Happy make sure your customers and 12:38
partners are happy so what we have we 12:40
have the town hall meeting from 3:00 to 12:42
4: I get a 30-minute break then I meet 12:44
with my business partner we meet every 12:46
week twice a week so I have 30-minute 12:47
chat with him then we go meet with a 12:49
potential nanny for an hour at a coffee 12:51
shop then we go to a SAS Meetup so it's 12:52
uh with a bunch of different SAS 12:55
creators that's where we promoted 12:56
appsumo and then that's State and then 12:57
I'll come home here and have dinner 13:00
definitely is picking up in the 13:01
afternoon that's why I like kind of like 13:02
a slower quieter morning a lot 13:03
of are you there whose music is 13:06
that that was my regone apologies not 13:11
apologies 13:14
actually how's everyone else doing so I 13:18
am being filmed we're doing like a 13:20
appsumo POV video Isaac come come say hi 13:22
this is 13:26
Isaac you seen at our event so he's 13:27
filming it's our town hall it's like 70 13:30
people all our meetings are optional so 13:32
if people don't think people should come 13:34
we just don't make people come if you 13:35
don't see people especially when you're 13:37
doing remote culture it's nice to have 13:38
like the connections and people talking 13:39
about different things so this is that 13:41
moment once a month to bring everyone 13:42
[Music] 13:47
together so we just did the town hall 13:50
pretty good there's some things that 13:53
happened for honest like we're hiring 13:54
new people that I wasn't informed of 13:56
which part of abso values is ask for 13:58
forgiveness not permission so I do 14:00
things where I want people to just do 14:02
what they want and then I'm like why did 14:03
you do that so you have to be mindful 14:05
what you're conditioning people on like 14:07
if you get mad or you say hey why did 14:09
you do that they're going to be then 14:11
timid to do those things so um we're 14:12
hiring two new roles and so I just asked 14:15
uh our chief operating officer I said 14:17
hey like just curious like how did we 14:19
make that decision and so she gave me 14:21
the information and then she said yeah I 14:23
think I should have just shared that 14:25
with you and the rest of the leadership 14:26
team in the future and I was like 14:27
great cuz when she actually explained it 14:29
it was totally made sense and I love 14:31
that she took the initiative like that's 14:33
what you're looking for you're looking 14:34
for leaders to lead and so she was doing 14:35
that and it was an amazing uh initiative 14:38
I think maybe two years ago Noah would 14:41
have just jumped on her like don't ever 14:43
do this why did you hire someone and 14:44
just kind of run really fast in the 14:46
wrong direction versus trying to pause 14:47
and really understand it now quick chat 14:49
with my business partner we talk twice a 14:51
week every single week in the past we 14:52
used to not do this and uh we always 14:55
would feel disconnected Ed and then I 14:58
would get mad at him and we wouldn't 15:00
know what's really going on and so it's 15:01
just it's a way to check in there's no 15:02
official agenda it's just like hey how 15:03
are you doing good do you need help with 15:05
anything any problems how do you think 15:06
the business is doing a lot of times 15:08
it's not the formal stuff that makes a 15:10
difference it's kind of the Casual 15:11
check-in hello uh that you can have big 15:13
impact on so it's that and uh yeah been 15:16
overall good 15:18
[Music] 15:19
day yeah I think it's going to be good 15:23
it's it's interesting like today I was 15:25
just like oh I'm not 15:27
like in a bunch of meetings today was 15:29
nice good yeah 15:32
you yeah it's been um pretty good good 15:35
Bal good Focus 15:39
time chat is great it's just like a 15:46
check-in I mean I think the big takeaway 15:48
from that which was interesting I think 15:51
sometimes in these business meetings 15:53
it's like CEO talks to the person the 15:54
person like reports in and is my partner 15:56
but too with all the meetings how do you 15:59
make it two-way streets so you're kind 16:00
of having communication back and forth 16:02
uh about hey how are things here's 16:04
what's going on with me and here's 16:06
what's going on with you think about 16:07
sharing so instead of asking how 16:08
someone's doing share how you're doing 16:10
and then ask them how they're doing I've 16:12
always found that to be a really good 16:13
approach uh and then lastly in our town 16:14
hall with everyone it was cool that so 16:17
many people have worked here for so long 16:19
we have a lot of people with over 5 16:21
years of being at appsumo to me that 16:22
makes me so proud to create a company 16:23
that I want to be at and that so many 16:25
other people are excited to to be there 16:27
so sometimes I I have to warn people 16:28
when they're applying for jobs I'm like 16:30
you might actually like it here you see 16:31
people we we that hire and they do like 16:32
one year stints they come to have and 16:34
they just like kind of like stick and uh 16:36
that always makes me feel very proud a 16:38
few moments later dude I'm tired 16:40
that's funny cuz the morning was like 16:43
chill and then I think like around like 16:45
12ish or so when we finally started 16:47
dialing in it was like back toback 16:48
Non-Stop and I I think like any athlete 16:50
or professionally or whatever it's like 16:52
you do your thing and then you rest and 16:54
you do your thing and you rest and we're 16:55
not in the afternoon but I appreciate we 16:57
had a slower morning but yeah it's 16:59
definitely hectic and excited to go see 17:01
the nanny person potentially and then uh 17:02
meet some Partners I'm going to be 17:04
taking my scooter shout out to my vesa 17:05
boys out there uh scooter gang bang 17:07
bang all right we're out here filming 17:14
got Isaac the videographer tailgating me 17:17
scooter life is dope I don't care what 17:20
anyone says man I love this scooter 17:22
life so we don't have to fil but I'll 17:27
just give you a quick Insight my wife 17:29
wants to go back to work someone to help 17:31
coaches about how to have the kids 17:33
someone to help around the house someone 17:34
to make our life easier uh so we've been 17:35
interviewing a bunch of different ones 17:38
and somewhere kind of final stages but 17:39
definitely you know sensitive to have 17:41
someone in the house we're new parents 17:42
so think be also good to have some kind 17:44
of Abita some Grandma support in the 17:46
house so that's what we're doing here 17:48
the N is cool she's you know super 17:50
experienced has a lot of things but I I 17:52
think what I noticed today is I'm 17:54
starting to get stage fright from 17:55
expenses you know the nanny 50k about to 17:57
buy my wife potentially a $75,000 Range 18:00
Rover and I'm like ah do we really need 18:02
these things like I know my wife's happy 18:03
with the Honda we can have our moms come 18:05
and help out with the baby but 18:07
definitely like you know we're about to 18:09
drop 18:10
$120,000 kids are expensive I've got to 18:10
make a lot more YouTube videos I think 18:13
is what I'm learning today I think it's 18:14
going to work out great and if it 18:16
doesn't fine we're going to learn and 18:17
keep evolving but I'm also trying to be 18:19
mindful like we make money uh to be able 18:20
to either have more time or make our 18:23
life easier and I think both these 18:24
things will be great for my wife uh both 18:26
these great for wife and and great for 18:28
our new family uh so now we are heading 18:30
out I'm late uh but we're going over to 18:32
an appsumo meet up with a bunch of our 18:34
partners honestly sometimes I I I get a 18:36
little hesitant cuz it's it's a lot of 18:39
people who know who I am and I'm like 18:41
okay I just want to be home with my with 18:43
Isaac the videographer or with my wife 18:44
or with my friends but a lot of times I 18:46
go meet super cool people and I'm happy 18:48
I went it's just getting there in social 18:50
events sometimes is the introverted kind 18:52
of like energy stuff coming out I'll see 18:54
you there 18:57
[Music] 18:58
good this is all the people from saso 19:06
yeah it's all people from SAS 19:09
yeah name company City if anyone could 19:12
spell this beckan let's do an all right 19:16
let's go come on in let's just follow 19:19
him POV it POV 19:20
it it's so cool to come and and see all 19:24
these people that are excited about 19:27
about the things that we're working on 19:28
as excited as we are and it just makes 19:30
uh it makes me happy it feels surreal 19:32
cuz that wasn't the plan the plan was 19:34
can I make a few bucks promoting cool 19:36
deals and be able to travel the world my 19:38
way it's it's amazing how far it's come 19:40
uh it's definitely beyond my dreams with 19:43
appsumo it's so cool there's people 19:46
literally around the world that have 19:47
made cool software products and we get 19:49
paid to help promote that and then our 19:51
customers like buying those deals and 19:53
it's special to be able to impact 19:55
people's lives whether they're buying 19:56
the products we're promoting or it's the 19:58
partners that we helping you know change 19:59
their lives by promoting their business 20:02
being able to just know that we've been 20:03
a little part of helping them succeed in 20:05
in the businesses that they've been 20:07
creating I think that's the part of 20:09
appsumo in my whole journey whether it's 20:10
the book million dollar weekend or 20:11
whether it's this event or whether 20:13
appsumo in general if people have done 20:14
cool stuff how do I help them promote it 20:16
or how do I help people do their own 20:18
business and and that's what bringing 20:19
people together for this event and and 20:20
running our business is all about it's 20:22
it's interesting you do these internet 20:24
businesses and they get to sizes and you 20:25
you know you you you never really get to 20:27
meet some of your customers or your 20:29
partners and as you know so coming to 20:30
something like this where we hosted the 20:32
event it was nice to be able to connect 20:33
with a variety of people we connected 20:35
with old people that used to work at 20:36
appsumo and sumoi connect people who 20:38
bought our recent business sumo.com they 20:40
actually literally the new acquir was 20:42
here uh people like younger kids these 20:43
like 19 and 20-year-old kids I'll call 20:46
out their company it's called Zealot 20:48
they're like oh we know you from 20:50
YouTube we know your stuff I'm like yo 20:51
y'all are the Future these guys are like 20:53
starting hustling like crazy uh 20:54
definitely like the younger hungry rer 20:57
generation you know they got the energy 20:59
but maybe not as much the experience 21:01
just yet kind of it feels like me 20 21:02
years ago I will say so many times I've 21:04
met people at events like this um 21:06
magically you meet someone and like I 21:09
had a dinner with Mark Manson years ago 21:11
and end up you know kind of becoming 21:13
friends you know recently this is POV a 21:14
day in the life of a $100 million CEO it 21:17
started in the morning what did I even 21:19
do today I'm curious what people think a 21:20
day is like someone put out a video 21:23
recently about a day in life of a 21:24
million where they hung out with me for 21:25
a day no one watched it and it made me 21:26
think kids these days don't want to be 21:29
rich I like this kind of content because 21:31
it's literally my day and it shows 21:33
people it's possible I I think one of 21:35
the cool things you can be like holy 21:37
I'm going to work hard when I'm 20 21:38
or 25 or 30 or 35 or 40 or 45 or 50 and 21:40
then you build it up over time you hire 21:44
enough people you can actually spend 21:46
your day really ideally how you want it 21:47
and you don't need to build a $100 21:50
million year business to do that and and 21:51
also when I started this whole thing my 21:53
dream was not to have parties and do any 21:55
of this it was to make a few thousand 21:58
bucks a month promoting software deals 21:59
so it's been a true dream and I think 22:01
maybe another video in the future about 22:03
like how do I how have I chosen these 22:05
industries that have really expanded so 22:06
much and then we've got to be a special 22:08
part of it you know we're evolving 22:10
people we're we're out here figuring out 22:12
life uh doing our 22:14
best what do you all think about my day 22:17
running a $100 million a year company 22:20
that's appsumo 22:22
docomo below and if you want to check 22:27
out another really really interesting 22:29
story about an entrepreneur who makes a 22:31
$100 million a year yes and an honorary 22:32
billionaire check out Bill Perkins he's 22:35
also written die with zero my favorite 22:37
book and business check it out right up 22:39
here Uncle Noah loves you and I'll see 22:41
you out there pew pew 22:42

POV Day in the Life $100 million
CEO I'm not even super rich but I'm at a
point where I don't have to do these
things it's like business advice in in a
sauna you know you do entrepreneurship
or you have jobs so you can create a
lifestyle if you're worried about the
day-to-day of your business there's
probably some core issues holy
distractions I'm distracted as
am I doing what I really want to do
or is it because like I'm chasing like
more recognition or more fame or more
money dude I'm tired I'm
starting to get stage fright from
expenses how do I say this without sound
like a total dick kids these days don't
want to be
rich all right I think a lot of times I
we wake up and I'm like okay we have to
go we have to go or well hurry the hell
up think of having a little more
patience that's my word of the Year and
I love having nothing from like when I
wake up until noon and that is such a
luxury and it's just a really nice time
to be like okay is there anything I have
to get done or want to get done that's
outside of the norm or just really let
me relax into the day how do I say this
without sound like a total I'm not even
super rich like I'm trying to also buy a
car today for my wife but I'm at a point
where I don't have to do these things so
it's like what do you really want to be
doing and I think this is how all of us
live the lives we want to be living
where it's do the thing you actually
want to be doing but it's like making
content I think this is where we get
fued up just cuz like you're like hey I
want to make content cuz I like sharing
what's going on and then it's like well
we have to do the content that's going
to get a lot of views and I just I'm not
as excited to make that video today and
you have to balance what you want to
make with what people want to watch I do
love making content I think it's just
being like okay you want to make this
content or is it just cuz you you have
to make it or you're supposed to make it
and so I I try to tell myself to just
listen to that voice and tempting right
because you want the money or you want
the views but I think the more that you
just stay true to that the better you'll
feel and if the views come great and if
not you still at least feel good about
what you're doing but let's go let's go
chill on Thea dude I needed like a
little chill
sash it's like business advice in in a
sauna
I wasn't really looking forward to
making this video uh and then I was
supposed to make another video and then
have a podcast and it's just like why
you do entrepreneurship or you have jobs
so you can create a lifestyle I wanted
to just come like relax just like let my
mind be empty not have technology not
have to do video not have to go into
appsumo meetings I think it's tough when
you wake up and it's like I got all this
to do I'm on the phone some slack
thing happened an email thing happened
this thing went out and it wasn't
correct and you kind of just get riled
up at least I do
and so again my word of the year is
patience so trying to just like let's
come in let's be patient on these things
and then kind of in a woooo way reenter
the day and then uh come back I don't
know you just I feel brighter what do
you really want in this life how do you
really want your days to be and be okay
if if it's not what others want and if
it's not where you want to be just start
planting the seeds today to get to that
point you know I think people miss that
in businesses like absum was 15 years
it's not you know it's it's now in high
school hating its daddy you can't force
a dream onto someone else dad and so be
patient that your business takes time to
mature you know what it is things take
maintenance and I think we forget that
sometimes our body takes maintenance
your house takes maintenance and your
business takes
maintenance I would say my job at
appsumo is to help make sure that the
people working there are living the
lives they want to live and I think I
used to feel guilty like oh I should be
at the computer working and I should be
doing this like no I want to live how I
want to live and within the rest of the
company I want everyone else feeling
that way too uh that those are my my Ona
thoughts of the day is just let go of
the attachment of these accomplishments
or these identities we think of for
ourselves versus what we really feel and
what we're aware of in a wake with
ourselves and then secondly uh just be
grateful and and help all the people
that are helping you live your own great
life too I wanted to just call out so
there's a lady back here helping with
the
pool shout out to her it kind of just
makes me realize like we all need people
to help us in our lives whether it's to
coach us or support us or maybe you hire
them to do things for you and so uh
sometimes it's just I think that's a lot
of SE stuff it's like where are you
going and how can you find other people
to help you do those things so just want
to thank all the people I don't know
where she went helping do things uh in
my life how do my goals align don't look
at me private all right next up uh
because my wife wants breakfast and I'm
doing it's cool I want to prioritize my
family so I'm going to be cooking her
some eggs toast uh and some
fruta how does this make me feel makes
me feel like I'm prioritizing what I
said I'd
prioritize and taking care of my family
makes me feel good about myself like I
think we can all do these things like it
doesn't you can either make breakfast
for someone you can call someone but I
think it's like one of the things that
make you feel
selworthy people might be wondering like
Hey how do you know how suumo is doing
and I would say when you get to higher
levels of your business you don't
necessar if you're worried about the
day-to-day of your business there's
probably some like core issues to really
focus on one of the ways that helps me
at least at that cuz I go in slack and
we have a thing called daily pulse and
so we can share some of the numbers
blurred out and so even from far away
just even look far away you see how
there's like green check marks I just
come to basically make sure it's like
everything on track or not and if if
there's yellow or red I'm going to go
talk to the the person who owns those
numbers uh and say hey is everything
okay and if not see what's going on if
I'm worried about day-to-day like who
the people are or how the numbers are
doing there's something core that needs
to be worked out in the business that's
why really haven't even checked in or
really gotten too involved in abso just
yet I'm G to do my journaling uh and
then I'll start getting into some of the
prep for the abso town hall and checking
in on things for
[Music]
absum I'm going to get into writing when
I start writing I don't do anything also
Isaac is here with me I'm writing out
what's been happening really proud of
myself for not doing extra filming today
which is ironic given this is the film
also for pausing the podcast that I
didn't want to go out need to make sure
it doesn't wear out the team but it's
also good to be aligned and check in
with how I'm feeling happy I talked to
my mom in the morning always plus it is
a check-in but that's what she needs and
I can do a better job of asking her
what's going on in her life busy day
with doctors yesterday definitely miss
having the assistant do some of this
work definitely want to get a executive
assistant or personal assistant to
support a lot of the basic things that
I've been doing around the house and
scheduling way to take your power back
do the content and videos that you want
to be doing which videos are those how
we launch Bree do which is on track for
seven figures my skincare routine Day in
the Life videos like this one how are
you investing in app sumo's future I'm
excited for Neville's bachelor party W
woop proud of you for being more mindful
about my own weight and working on it
day by day exercise mindful eating and
consistency is the solution for the
results you want in business same for
the relationship maf's car is kind of a
lot of money at $77,000 it is not cheap
at all she's going to love the car worst
case scenario we sell it and lose 10K
will I notice the money when it's gone
no this is die with zero man just
definitely need to support on the taxes
and the accounting side personally feel
like not as present are available to do
those things in those areas I love the
sway of our tree in our backyard so cool
to Tri spread roots and with maintenance
still grow and get bigger I don't mind
these point of view videos it's very met
I'm writing about it that's okay they
have to record four sometimes and just
dial it in things I'm looking forward to
this week ride with Ian massagi appsumo
H2 meeting and my wife pregnancy class
and nightly walks all things good #
morning Pages now we're going to go
upstairs do a little bit of prep work
for the appsumo meeting finish up the
million dooll weekend videos I might
take a break and play Pinball and then
go for a walk and then get back into the
appsumo
meetings oh this is cool just got a
podcast request to go on Masters of
scale with Reed Hoffman yes that is sick
Reed Hoffman is the founder of LinkedIn
he was an early investor in Facebook
he's literally a legend in Silicon
Valley super fire that that's a huge win
I think what's been interesting is like
chasing versus being with making content
and getting on shows and you know having
the
book come out where am I doing what I
really want to do or is it because like
I'm chasing like more recognition or
more fame or more money you know what
kind of content would I pay for us to be
making and I think those are that's an
easy way to kind of think about these
things when people aspire to run a
million dollar100 million $10,000
business whatever size it is I think you
have more satisfaction and more success
when you're just clear with what parts
you really enjoy and staying true to
that throughout the process because I do
think over time you start doing the
stuff and you're like man I'm not
enjoying any of it and so it's something
I have to kind of keep coming back to
myself on it's a nice feeling like
saying no to something which keeps me
open to available to have something like
this come up so that that's definitely
um super nice it's very exciting like
someone wrote an email saying thank you
for million doar weekend can we chat for
15
minutes holy distractions I'm distracted
as I don't know if you expect CEOs
or people that are doing things to be
distracted but we like to be distracted
it's important not to guilt yourself for
it I think if you're not accomplishing
things or your whole day feels like this
I think once in a while that's actually
okay but if your whole day whole weeks
whole months it feels like you're just
constantly distracted doing uh not
moving in a direction you want or not
accomplishing the things you want uh
it's good to just kind of like double
check yourself with that be aware wake
up and think okay are there any changes
I want to make here uh that's not
helping me do the things or get to the
places I want to be
[Music]
going another hack learn how to tie
faster if you think about where you
start everything like your bed is where
you start your computer is where you
start your hands are where you start I
think people are trying to learn like
for new tools and I mean appsumo we're
the number one place to help sell tools
so I think it's how do I learn how to
use the tools more effectively and and
think about where you're spending a lot
of your time typing writing maybe
reading maybe using your trackpad and
there ways that you can learn how to use
them more
efficiently all right I am reading an
app Sumo email this is a product called
Eureka research topics valid ideas
create books so one thing I think about
when I'm like checking out our emails
and reading this kind of stuff is are
you tasting the soup if you're making a
service if you're making a product if
you're selling digital whatever it is if
you're making YouTube is are you
watching your stuff so for me I like
watching my own stuff I like reading
appsumo emails and pay attention when
you're zoning out pay attention when
you're not paying attention and that'll
kind of show you some areas that you can
work on in your business if you are
paying attention go be a customer of
your business and I think you always
kind of find out new things versus as
you get further away or as you grow
businesses you kind of get disconnected
sometimes from your customers or your
partners uh and this is a nice way for
me to make sure that I'm staying
connected to what appsumo is doing
[Music]
we have a town hall in 20 minutes so I
was reviewing the entire agenda if you
think about it it's like 100 people
times their hourly like that's that's a
very expensive meeting that we're doing
so we want to make sure that the the
agenda is super dialed in I'm going to
go for a quick walk before the meeting
uh and a lot of great stuff comes that
it's also just being relaxed every day I
I appreciate not having to be stressed
or like full on 100% go and so this is
this is behind the scenes of what I I
spend my day doing
I try to get the hell out of the house
all the time you know you especially if
you work from home you're it's
definitely like okay I'm here I'm here
I'm here I need to get the hell out of
it I was kind of just thinking about
like if people see the POV they're like
you looked over agendas you double
checked some numbers and you didn't
really do anything today a lot of my job
is okay have we set up a vision for
appsumo yeah be the number one place to
distribute tools for solopreneurs so we
have this like tons of cool stuff we're
thinking about for the next few years do
we have a super clear plan for the
quarter yeah do we have most of the
right people in place yes and so a lot
of my my time is not necessarily dealing
with the day-to-day or the month-to
month it's more of like the quarter or
the year or the few years and so my day
is just kind of making sure everything
is is on the right track and um a lot of
my day now is like creating content that
helps build awareness for appsumo and
then also hiring some of the new
Executives within marketing within
Finance where there's some gaps within
helping run appsumo it's kind of my
sweet spot it's my dream like I like
making content I like marketing I like
promoting I like what we get to do at AB
suumo and the amount of involvement I
get to have so I don't know it was just
interesting to reflect that when you
hear this when people talk about it
like the CEO sets the vision the CEO
hires the team you're like dude what are
you talking about aren't you working cuz
I think when you're starting out you are
doing all these things and you're like
what do you mean you you you just set
the vision you choose the players you
Cho you know and you you let them do
their their execution you don't really I
think it's hard to really connect or
grasp that I've been really trying to
extricate myself from day-to-day of the
the business and I like the Cadence of
it and kind of part of my job with all
of it is just like making sure the
people are happy you know make sure
you're you're happy make sure your team
is Happy make sure your customers and
partners are happy so what we have we
have the town hall meeting from 3:00 to
4: I get a 30-minute break then I meet
with my business partner we meet every
week twice a week so I have 30-minute
chat with him then we go meet with a
potential nanny for an hour at a coffee
shop then we go to a SAS Meetup so it's
uh with a bunch of different SAS
creators that's where we promoted
appsumo and then that's State and then
I'll come home here and have dinner
definitely is picking up in the
afternoon that's why I like kind of like
a slower quieter morning a lot
of are you there whose music is
that that was my regone apologies not
apologies
actually how's everyone else doing so I
am being filmed we're doing like a
appsumo POV video Isaac come come say hi
this is
Isaac you seen at our event so he's
filming it's our town hall it's like 70
people all our meetings are optional so
if people don't think people should come
we just don't make people come if you
don't see people especially when you're
doing remote culture it's nice to have
like the connections and people talking
about different things so this is that
moment once a month to bring everyone
[Music]
together so we just did the town hall
pretty good there's some things that
happened for honest like we're hiring
new people that I wasn't informed of
which part of abso values is ask for
forgiveness not permission so I do
things where I want people to just do
what they want and then I'm like why did
you do that so you have to be mindful
what you're conditioning people on like
if you get mad or you say hey why did
you do that they're going to be then
timid to do those things so um we're
hiring two new roles and so I just asked
uh our chief operating officer I said
hey like just curious like how did we
make that decision and so she gave me
the information and then she said yeah I
think I should have just shared that
with you and the rest of the leadership
team in the future and I was like
great cuz when she actually explained it
it was totally made sense and I love
that she took the initiative like that's
what you're looking for you're looking
for leaders to lead and so she was doing
that and it was an amazing uh initiative
I think maybe two years ago Noah would
have just jumped on her like don't ever
do this why did you hire someone and
just kind of run really fast in the
wrong direction versus trying to pause
and really understand it now quick chat
with my business partner we talk twice a
week every single week in the past we
used to not do this and uh we always
would feel disconnected Ed and then I
would get mad at him and we wouldn't
know what's really going on and so it's
just it's a way to check in there's no
official agenda it's just like hey how
are you doing good do you need help with
anything any problems how do you think
the business is doing a lot of times
it's not the formal stuff that makes a
difference it's kind of the Casual
check-in hello uh that you can have big
impact on so it's that and uh yeah been
overall good
[Music]
day yeah I think it's going to be good
it's it's interesting like today I was
just like oh I'm not
like in a bunch of meetings today was
nice good yeah
you yeah it's been um pretty good good
Bal good Focus
time chat is great it's just like a
check-in I mean I think the big takeaway
from that which was interesting I think
sometimes in these business meetings
it's like CEO talks to the person the
person like reports in and is my partner
but too with all the meetings how do you
make it two-way streets so you're kind
of having communication back and forth
uh about hey how are things here's
what's going on with me and here's
what's going on with you think about
sharing so instead of asking how
someone's doing share how you're doing
and then ask them how they're doing I've
always found that to be a really good
approach uh and then lastly in our town
hall with everyone it was cool that so
many people have worked here for so long
we have a lot of people with over 5
years of being at appsumo to me that
makes me so proud to create a company
that I want to be at and that so many
other people are excited to to be there
so sometimes I I have to warn people
when they're applying for jobs I'm like
you might actually like it here you see
people we we that hire and they do like
one year stints they come to have and
they just like kind of like stick and uh
that always makes me feel very proud a
few moments later dude I'm tired
that's funny cuz the morning was like
chill and then I think like around like
12ish or so when we finally started
dialing in it was like back toback
Non-Stop and I I think like any athlete
or professionally or whatever it's like
you do your thing and then you rest and
you do your thing and you rest and we're
not in the afternoon but I appreciate we
had a slower morning but yeah it's
definitely hectic and excited to go see
the nanny person potentially and then uh
meet some Partners I'm going to be
taking my scooter shout out to my vesa
boys out there uh scooter gang bang
bang all right we're out here filming
got Isaac the videographer tailgating me
scooter life is dope I don't care what
anyone says man I love this scooter
life so we don't have to fil but I'll
just give you a quick Insight my wife
wants to go back to work someone to help
coaches about how to have the kids
someone to help around the house someone
to make our life easier uh so we've been
interviewing a bunch of different ones
and somewhere kind of final stages but
definitely you know sensitive to have
someone in the house we're new parents
so think be also good to have some kind
of Abita some Grandma support in the
house so that's what we're doing here
the N is cool she's you know super
experienced has a lot of things but I I
think what I noticed today is I'm
starting to get stage fright from
expenses you know the nanny 50k about to
buy my wife potentially a $75,000 Range
Rover and I'm like ah do we really need
these things like I know my wife's happy
with the Honda we can have our moms come
and help out with the baby but
definitely like you know we're about to
drop
$120,000 kids are expensive I've got to
make a lot more YouTube videos I think
is what I'm learning today I think it's
going to work out great and if it
doesn't fine we're going to learn and
keep evolving but I'm also trying to be
mindful like we make money uh to be able
to either have more time or make our
life easier and I think both these
things will be great for my wife uh both
these great for wife and and great for
our new family uh so now we are heading
out I'm late uh but we're going over to
an appsumo meet up with a bunch of our
partners honestly sometimes I I I get a
little hesitant cuz it's it's a lot of
people who know who I am and I'm like
okay I just want to be home with my with
Isaac the videographer or with my wife
or with my friends but a lot of times I
go meet super cool people and I'm happy
I went it's just getting there in social
events sometimes is the introverted kind
of like energy stuff coming out I'll see
you there
[Music]
good this is all the people from saso
yeah it's all people from SAS
yeah name company City if anyone could
spell this beckan let's do an all right
let's go come on in let's just follow
him POV it POV
it it's so cool to come and and see all
these people that are excited about
about the things that we're working on
as excited as we are and it just makes
uh it makes me happy it feels surreal
cuz that wasn't the plan the plan was
can I make a few bucks promoting cool
deals and be able to travel the world my
way it's it's amazing how far it's come
uh it's definitely beyond my dreams with
appsumo it's so cool there's people
literally around the world that have
made cool software products and we get
paid to help promote that and then our
customers like buying those deals and
it's special to be able to impact
people's lives whether they're buying
the products we're promoting or it's the
partners that we helping you know change
their lives by promoting their business
being able to just know that we've been
a little part of helping them succeed in
in the businesses that they've been
creating I think that's the part of
appsumo in my whole journey whether it's
the book million dollar weekend or
whether it's this event or whether
appsumo in general if people have done
cool stuff how do I help them promote it
or how do I help people do their own
business and and that's what bringing
people together for this event and and
running our business is all about it's
it's interesting you do these internet
businesses and they get to sizes and you
you know you you you never really get to
meet some of your customers or your
partners and as you know so coming to
something like this where we hosted the
event it was nice to be able to connect
with a variety of people we connected
with old people that used to work at
appsumo and sumoi connect people who
bought our recent business sumo.com they
actually literally the new acquir was
here uh people like younger kids these
like 19 and 20-year-old kids I'll call
out their company it's called Zealot
they're like oh we know you from
YouTube we know your stuff I'm like yo
y'all are the Future these guys are like
starting hustling like crazy uh
definitely like the younger hungry rer
generation you know they got the energy
but maybe not as much the experience
just yet kind of it feels like me 20
years ago I will say so many times I've
met people at events like this um
magically you meet someone and like I
had a dinner with Mark Manson years ago
and end up you know kind of becoming
friends you know recently this is POV a
day in the life of a $100 million CEO it
started in the morning what did I even
do today I'm curious what people think a
day is like someone put out a video
recently about a day in life of a
million where they hung out with me for
a day no one watched it and it made me
think kids these days don't want to be
rich I like this kind of content because
it's literally my day and it shows
people it's possible I I think one of
the cool things you can be like holy
I'm going to work hard when I'm 20
or 25 or 30 or 35 or 40 or 45 or 50 and
then you build it up over time you hire
enough people you can actually spend
your day really ideally how you want it
and you don't need to build a $100
million year business to do that and and
also when I started this whole thing my
dream was not to have parties and do any
of this it was to make a few thousand
bucks a month promoting software deals
so it's been a true dream and I think
maybe another video in the future about
like how do I how have I chosen these
industries that have really expanded so
much and then we've got to be a special
part of it you know we're evolving
people we're we're out here figuring out
life uh doing our
best what do you all think about my day
running a $100 million a year company
that's appsumo
docomo below and if you want to check
out another really really interesting
story about an entrepreneur who makes a
$100 million a year yes and an honorary
billionaire check out Bill Perkins he's
also written die with zero my favorite
book and business check it out right up
here Uncle Noah loves you and I'll see
you out there pew pew
