Well we filmed Luke's Island in Skellig Michael

which is off the coast of Ireland

and it's incredibly

difficult to get the top.

It's something like 1500 steps and those big stone ones.

Not comfortable ones.

You just climb and climb, you just can't believe it,

when is this gonna end?

I have to keep stopping and resting.

But when I got to the to it's so beautiful.

See I could live there.

I love beaches and water, Tahiti is one of the most

beautiful places I have ever been.

I guess I want solitude

but not so much solitude

that there's not room service available.

- [Man] Darkness rises.

(dramatic music)

And light to meet it.

(grunts)

- Well I mean it got my interest that's for sure

when I read it.

I talked about a plot,

my son Nathan was born when we were doing

Empire Strikes Back.

And he's the most devoted Star Wars fan in my family.

Griffin and Chelsea like it but he's mad passionate.

And he's read all these books and articles and so forth

and he told me about a storyline, he said they clone

Luke's severed hand and grow an evil Luke.

So I thought that's a great idea

'cause the audience wouldn't know he's evil

until they see him undermining the good guys.

Cutting their fuel pipes and maybe even murdering

a supporting character.

And they think what's going on and then the real Luke

could show up and confront him.

Every actor wants to play his own evil twin.

But when I suggested it they said number one

it's been done and what they also were implying was

it's not about Luke anymore it's about the new characters.

Like I say I'm not the protagonist anymore.

And if we told the story like that

it would probably be too much Luke.

(lasers firing)

(screams)

(groan)

So many of the directors are out there that would be great

to work with but

Rian Johnson is easily one of the best directors

I've ever worked with.

He's so easy going, he's so amiable.

He doesn't raise his voice, he doesn't curse.

He's doesn't have temper tantrums.

It's almost too good to be true.

And he's highly collaborative.

He wants to hear your ideas and he let's you rehearse.

We would rehearse on weekends or we come out to the studio

on days that we weren't shooting it.

That's a rarity in film.

That's why I wanted to go back to Broadway so badly

is I miss the rehearsal process.

Because in a film you have to show up on set

and (snaps) instantly deliver your character.

Whereas in a play you have a rehearsal process

where you can figure out where you're going

and plot out the trajectory of your character.

It's a whole different ballgame in film.
