7 Black Friday Shopping Tips - How Not To Get Ripped Off 00:00
Hi! 00:01
I'm Antonio Centeno, the founder of Real Men Real Style. 00:02
Today, I'm going to be giving you seven tips on how to shop effectively this Black Friday, 00:03
Cyber Monday, and Thanksgiving weekend. 00:08
If you haven't already, please consider to subscribe to my YouTube channel. 00:12
By doing that, these videos will come right to you. 00:15
In addition, if you like this, if you find this video useful, I would appreciate you 00:17
clicking on the "like" button right below this video. 00:20
In addition, right down there, you're going to find a link over to Real Men Real Style. 00:22
You can go over there and get this entire article. 00:26
You can read it right there. 00:29
And if you're on my email list, you'll actually get this article wrapped up as a PDF so you 00:31
can read it on your smart phone when you're out there shopping this weekend. 00:36
Okay, so why am I giving you these seven tips? 00:40
Many of you guys have been shopping your entire lives and you feel pretty comfortable doing 00:43
it. 00:47
Well, I'm a retailer. 00:48
I own a custom clothier and I'm on the opposite side of the buyer, and I know many of the 00:49
things we use to get people to buy. 00:55
And if they're not used ethically, I think it's my responsibility to let you know that 00:57
you're going to see things like scarcity. 01:04
You're going to see things like value prop. 01:06
You'll see a retail price and they say they're knocking it off 70% or 50% when really the 01:10
item isn't even worth that amount of money still, or you're going to have other herd 01:15
mentality. 01:20
You see these big box stores where everyone rushes in and people are just grabbing things. 01:21
This is where Black Friday gets really dangerous. 01:26
Guys, I want you to understand, and I don't want you to have buyer's remorse come later 01:29
on in this season and then find out you can't even return it or you can only get an in-store 01:34
credit, or worse case, you get stuck with something and you never wear it or you never 01:38
use it. 01:43
Okay, so I'm reading from the list. 01:44
I didn’t have time to memorize all this stuff, but the number one tip is whenever 01:46
you go out there shopping, gentlemen, know what you're looking for. 01:51
One of the things I preach and I talk about over at Real Men Real Style is that you need 01:56
to understand what is in your core wardrobe. 02:00
You need to understand what you need to own versus what would be nice to own, but really 02:03
isn't going to add much to your wardrobe. 02:09
So that way, when you're going out there shopping and you see a great deal, you don't just buy 02:11
something because it's 70% off or 60% off or you think it'll look good on you. 02:15
You actually purchase something because gosh, it's on your list and you've created a list 02:21
of what should be in your core wardrobe. 02:25
So that's the number one thing, gentlemen, is know what you're going out to purchase 02:28
and that's what you should be going after. 02:33
Now, this list can be as long as you want it to be. 02:35
And one of the things I talk about in my style system is that you need to have this list 02:39
and you need to have it not only broken out, but in a priority order. 02:43
So if you already own a number of dress shirts, there's no reason to buy any more dress shirts 02:46
even if they're on sale. 02:51
Instead, you should be looking for trousers because you've only got maybe one pair of 02:52
nice dress slacks. 02:56
Okay, the second thing I'm going to talk about is to budget and I'm not saying that you need 02:58
to stick exactly like, say, "I'm only going to spend $100 today." 03:04
No, that's not the kind of budgeting I'm talking about. 03:08
I mean, you need to budget for individual items and know what their true value is. 03:11
Let's take a really nice pair of jeans. 03:18
Well, if you know that Levi's normally sell for retail for $50 to $60, the brand that 03:22
you're going after, maybe you're looking at some 505's and you know that they sell for 03:29
$40, well, when you know that, you're not going to fall into a store that says normally 03:32
these -- well, you know they normally sell at $40. 03:39
When the store says they normally sell it at $60 their retail and they marked them down 03:41
by 50%, well, that's only a $10 savings that you know that they should only be $40. 03:45
Do you kind of see the math there, guys? 03:52
Basically, when you know what the true value of something is and you budget for it, you'll 03:54
be able to identify value when you truly see it. 03:58
It doesn’t matter what store you're at and looking across brands, so the same thing with 04:02
the sports jacket. 04:07
And why I don't want you to stick with a hard price is sometimes you're going to come across 04:08
something and you're going to say, "Wow! 04:13
This is a great deal. 04:15
I wasn't necessarily looking for it. 04:17
It was a little bit lower on my list, but I'm going to go ahead and jump on this because 04:19
it's 70% off and this is a sports jacket made by Zegna" or a company that consistently puts 04:23
out good quality, and I'm going to go ahead and make the purchase. 04:29
I'm pulling out my notes here. 04:33
Number three, be able to identify quality. 04:37
Now, how can you identify quality? 04:40
Well, the first off, first thing is you want to be able to make sure that it has to fit 04:42
you, not exactly quality for everyone, but if it doesn’t fit you, it doesn’t really 04:47
matter. 04:53
After that, look at the fiber. 04:54
Feel the fabric. 04:57
Again, I'll take jeans. 04:58
I was in looking at different brands and if you know you're going to be wearing these, 05:00
if jeans are really, really thin, gentlemen, understand that denim is going to most likely 05:06
wear out. 05:11
Unless it's a higher end brand, it probably means that they're on the cheap side and you 05:12
want to avoid them. 05:16
When it comes to jackets or sports jackets, feeling the shoulders, know that there is 05:17
a difference between a brand, usually many of the brands that sell in Sears, versus the 05:22
brands that sell in Neiman Marcus, and understand that a $200 jacket that you buy in Sears is 05:27
not the same as a $200 jacket that is on sale from $500 that you're purchasing at a higher 05:34
end store like Macy's or Barneys. 05:41
Focus on fit. 05:45
Okay, I jumped the gun on number three, but if it doesn't fit you, gentlemen, and especially 05:46
if you're over the age of 21, you're not going to grow into it. 05:52
About the age of 21, we stop getting taller. 05:55
We get a little bit wider after that, but make sure it fits you because there's nothing 05:57
you can do if there isn't going to be fabric in there. 06:02
You may think that you're going to lose those ten pounds and that shirt is going to fit 06:07
you really well when you lose that ten pounds. 06:10
Gentlemen, it's probably not going to happen, so focus on the fit. 06:13
Compare prices. 06:28
Okay, so before you even go out there and especially on Cyber Monday, you're going to 06:29
be able to go quickly to websites and be able to compare prices. 06:34
Don't get stuck on this entirely and realize that sometimes it's a bait-and-switch. 06:38
Make sure you look at shipping costs as well. 06:42
And it's my opinion that I would rather pay a little bit more and go with a good quality 06:45
brand. 06:51
After that, you're going to want to check the return policy, so make sure whenever you 06:52
buy something that it can be returned. 06:56
Many times, and they're not always going to tell us, but you'll just got to be able to 06:59
get an in-store credit. 07:02
I've had in some companies, in a sense you can't return it. 07:04
So make sure that they've got a good return policy. 07:07
Usually, the larger, big box stores have a good return policy. 07:10
Amazon has an amazing return policy, but look at the final details there. 07:14
And last is going to be coupon codes, discount codes. 07:20
Pay attention to that stuff. 07:24
There are many sites like dappered.com and there are a few other ones that they let people 07:25
know about this stuff, but see if you can stack them on top of each other and if you 07:31
can really build up the savings, but try to use that to your advantage. 07:35
Gentlemen, be aware and realize that these sales are going to come and go. 07:40
Don't go out there and purchase something and find out that you can't return it. 07:46
Be smart. 07:51
I prefer Cyber Monday over Black Friday because I just don't like to be out there, but I can 07:52
tell you, I did a little bit of prep work. 08:00
I'm in the market for a new pair of jeans and I went out there and I tried on all the 08:02
different types of Levi's over at JC Penney's earlier today, and I'm going to go on to Levis.com 08:07
probably tomorrow, maybe Friday. 08:13
I'm going to look for a sale. 08:14
I know exactly what size. 08:15
I know exactly what style and I know exactly what color. 08:18
I also have a good idea of the price because I went into the store. 08:23
By the way, I do go in and I support my local stores, but do what you can to support your 08:29
local stores, gentlemen, but also, I want you to get the best deal this holiday. 08:36
I'll see you guys in the next video. 08:42
If you want to learn more by the way about men's styles, don't forget I've got a great 08:44
premium e-book that is going to be totally revamped. 08:48
It's actually going to be an entire website in itself. 08:52
I did a webinar just the other day and I'm sure it'll give a lot of people an inside 08:56
look at that, A Man's Guide to Style. 08:59
I'll link to it down below. 09:02
Make sure to grab it before I knock the price up at the end of this year, which is going 09:04
to happen because it's going to be really good. 09:08
Okay, guys, I'll see you in the next video. 09:11
Bye-bye. 09:13

I own a custom clothier and I'm on the opposite side of the buyer, and I know many of the
You see these big box stores where everyone rushes in and people are just grabbing things.
Instead, you should be looking for trousers because you've only got maybe one pair of
After that, look at the fiber.
When it comes to jackets or sports jackets, feeling the shoulders, know that there is
We get a little bit wider after that, but make sure it fits you because there's nothing
Gentlemen, it's probably not going to happen, so focus on the fit.
After that, you're going to want to check the return policy, so make sure whenever you
Many times, and they're not always going to tell us, but you'll just got to be able to
I prefer Cyber Monday over Black Friday because I just don't like to be out there, but I can
I know exactly what size.
to happen because it's going to be really good.
