[Music] 00:00
hi everyone and welcome back to the 00:04
simple English podcast I'm Lisa your 00:06
host and today we have a super exciting 00:08
topic to talk about New Year resolutions 00:10
2025 you know it's that time of the year 00:13
when we're full of Hope and Dreams ready 00:16
to make a fresh start but let's be 00:18
honest how many of us actually stick to 00:20
those resolutions that's a great 00:23
question Lisa I think we all start with 00:25
the best intentions but somewhere along 00:27
the way life happens and those 00:29
resolutions Fade Away exactly Tony and 00:30
speaking of resolutions let me introduce 00:34
today's guest Tony is a life coach and 00:36
motivational speaker who has helped 00:39
hundreds of people set and achieve their 00:40
goals welcome to the show Tony thanks 00:42
for having me Lisa I'm really excited to 00:46
be here and share some tips and stories 00:48
about how we can make 00:50
2025 a year of real 00:52
change that's 00:54
fantastic before we dive in let me ask 00:56
our listeners ERS have you made your 00:59
resolutions for 2025 yet if not don't 01:01
worry because today we'll help you 01:05
create ones that actually work so grab a 01:07
cup of coffee or tea and let's get 01:10
[Music] 01:13
started so Tony let's start with the 01:17
basics why do you think people make New 01:19
Year 01:21
resolutions well Lisa New Year 01:22
resolutions are like a promise to 01:24
ourselves the start of a new year feels 01:25
like a clean slate people see it as a 01:28
chance to improve whether it's their 01:31
health relationships or 01:33
career that's true I think the idea of a 01:36
fresh start is very motivating but why 01:38
do so many resolutions 01:41
fail that's a great question the main 01:43
reason is that people set goals that are 01:46
too big or unrealistic for example 01:47
someone might say I'm going to lose 20 01:50
kilograms in one month or I'll go to the 01:52
gym every single day when they can't 01:54
keep up they get discouraged and give up 01:57
I been there a few years ago I promised 01:59
myself I'd learn to cook 30 new recipes 02:02
in January guess how many I actually 02:04
learned how many 02:07
two I realized I had no time to cook 02:10
every day so what's the solution Tony 02:13
how can we make resolutions that stick 02:16
the key is to set smart goals that means 02:18
your goals should be specific measurable 02:21
achievable relevant and time Bound for 02:24
example instead of saying I want to get 02:27
fit 02:29
you could say I'll go for a 30-minute 02:30
walk three times a week I love that 02:32
breaking big goals into smaller 02:35
manageable steps makes them less 02:37
overwhelming can you give us another 02:39
example sure let's say you want to save 02:42
money instead of saying I'll save a lot 02:44
this year try something like I'll save 02:46
$50 every week by eating out less this 02:48
way you have a clear plan and a 02:52
realistic Target that makes so much 02:54
sense do you have any tips for staying 02:57
motivated definitely first track your 03:00
progress It's So satisfying to see how 03:03
far you've come second reward yourself 03:06
for small achievements for example if 03:08
you stick to your exercise plan for a 03:10
month treat yourself to something nice 03:12
like a movie night rewards are such a 03:15
good idea I remember my friend Sarah she 03:19
wanted to read more books so she set a 03:22
goal of reading one book a month every 03:25
time she finished a book she'd Buy 03:27
Herself a new book mark it kept her 03:28
excited that's perfect small rewards can 03:31
make a big difference and remember it's 03:35
okay to adjust your goals if needed life 03:38
is 03:40
unpredictable so be flexible and kind to 03:41
yourself that's so true Tony I think 03:44
another big challenge is staying 03:47
consistent people often start strong in 03:49
January but lose momentum by February 03:51
how can we avoid that great Point Lisa 03:55
consistency is key and the best way to 03:58
maintain it is by building habits start 04:00
small and make your goal part of your 04:03
daily routine for example if you want to 04:05
drink more water start by placing a 04:07
water bottle on your desk as a reminder 04:10
over time it becomes automatic I've 04:12
tried that and it really works another 04:15
thing I've noticed is the power of 04:17
accountability when I tell a friend 04:21
about my goal I'm more likely to stick 04:23
to it because I don't want to let them 04:25
down absolutely account ability can be a 04:27
game changer you can share your goals 04:30
with a friend join a group or even use 04:32
an app to track your progress knowing 04:35
someone else's cheering for you makes a 04:37
huge difference that reminds me of my 04:38
colleague who joined a running club she 04:41
said the group's support motivated her 04:43
to wake up early and run even on cold 04:45
mornings it's amazing how a community 04:48
can help that's a great example 04:50
surrounding yourself with supportive 04:53
people can keep you 04:55
motivated and one more thing don't don't 04:57
forget to celebrate small wins along the 04:59
way every step forward is progress no 05:01
matter how small I couldn't agree more 05:05
tony these tips are so practical and 05:07
easy to follow I'm sure our listeners 05:10
are feeling inspired 05:12
[Music] 05:14
already now Tony it's time for our fun 05:18
fact segment did you know that only 05:21
about 9% of people actually keep their 05:23
New Year resolutions wow that's a small 05:25
number but it shows that sticking to 05:28
resolutions is a real challenge for most 05:30
people absolutely here's another fun 05:33
fact according to a study the most 05:36
common New Year resolution is to 05:38
exercise more followed by eating 05:39
healthier and losing weight no surprise 05:42
there right not at all health related 05:44
goals are always popular because people 05:48
want to feel better and look better but 05:49
here's a tip instead of focusing on the 05:52
number on the scale focus on how you 05:55
feel are you more energetic 05:57
sleeping better those are the real wins 06:00
that's so true and speaking of feeling 06:03
good did you know that making 06:06
resolutions and achieving them can 06:08
actually boost your happiness it gives 06:09
you a sense of accomplishment and 06:12
purpose I agree achieving even small 06:14
goals can build confidence and motivate 06:17
you to tackle bigger 06:19
[Music] 06:21
challenges well Tony this has been such 06:25
an inspiring conversation I've learned 06:27
so much about how to make and stick to 06:30
