you want to see from me because I read all of your 00:19
comments and I get my ideas from you guys. 00:22
Over the past few months I’ve received a 00:24
ton of DM’s on Instagram asking me to try 5 Days of DIY Makeup. 00:26
And to be completely honest, I avoided this 00:30
topic for a really long time because I don’t really know that much about regular makeup, 00:33
let alone DIY makeup. 00:37
But then I took a moment and I thought about it and I was like, 00:39
“Lucie, that is exactly what this series is about!” 00:41
I’m not an expert on any of the topics that 00:45
I dive into in Try Living With Lucie. 00:47
I just do my research and I learn about it 00:49
and then I try something. 00:51
And that’s the point. 00:53
So I took to the internet and I did 00:54
a ton of research and I discovered so many different 00:56
DIY makeup techniques that I’m going to 01:00
try out this week and share with you. 01:01
I also decided to turn this into a challenge 01:04
whereby I’m only allowed to wear the DIY makeup 01:06
that I make this week. 01:09
So as you can see I’m starting out on Monday fresh-faced. 01:10
Day one! 01:17
Oh, sorry. 01:18
I started out today with a product that I was most excited to 01:19
make: a lip kit. 01:22
For this recipe I followed YouTuber Yvette Polanka’s tutorial for a 01:24
DIY Kylie Jenner Lip Kit. 01:28
I mixed a matte liquid 01:31
foundation with a matte eyeshadow and then stirred them together. 01:32
However much foundation 01:36
you pour in is how much lipstick you’re gonna get 01:37
and then the eyeshadow is used to 01:39
color it. 01:40
On my wrist, I swatched my favorite Kylie Lip Kit color. 01:41
And then I swatched my version next to it to see how the 01:44
colors were different. 01:47
Then based on that, I knew what 01:48
other tones I needed to add in to achieve 01:50
my desired color. Once I had my color I added 01:52
some olive oil in to smooth it out, and then I spooned it into an empty pot. 01:55
I put it on and I really, really liked the 02:00
final texture and color. 02:02
Truthfully, it was very similar to my Kylie Lip Kit 02:04
but it just didn’t get that dry, crumbly feeling that the 02:06
Lip Kit sometimes gets. Next, I found 02:09
a recipe for a DIY peppermint lip balm 02:11
on Refinery29.com that calls for ¾ cups of coconut 02:14
oil, ¼ cup of melted cocoa butter, 02:18
and ¼ cup of beeswax. 02:20
I heated that together in a small saucepan, 02:23
and then I poured peppermint oil into a jar and swirled it around a bit 02:25
before adding the mixture to it. 02:28
I let it harden in the fridge for 20 minutes 02:30
before trying it on, 02:32
and then I tested it out and it is 02:33
officially my new favorite lip product. 02:35
I was looking at my face in the mirror this morning and I noticed that my skin was looking 02:43
a little blotchy, so I decided that what I needed most today was some sort of foundation 02:46
and coverup situation to smooth everything over. 02:51
Very necessary. I think it looks pretty 02:54
good now. I really liked how I made yesterday’s lip balm entirely from scratch 02:56
using non-makeup ingredients. So I wanted 03:01
to replicate that and make a very light foundation powder entirely from scratch. Once again, 03:03
there were no exact measurements for this, I was just mixing different ingredients together 03:08
to get the right color tone. So I added cocoapowder for a bronzing glow, 03:12
beet powder for a blush look, 03:17
and turmeric powder which can reduce acne-causing bacteria. The powder went on 03:20
very smoothly, and interestingly enough once all the ingredients were mixed together they 03:23
each lost their individual smells 03:28
so the mixture together was entirely odorless. 03:30
It gave me a little natural color. 03:33
I like it. 03:35
Next I followed Yvette Polanka’s Youtube tutorial for a 03:36
DIY EOS concealer. 03:39
I removed the original EOS lip balm from the case, then 03:41
popped out the grate, and then cleaned the EOS container and set it aside. 03:44
Then I mixed together beeswax, coconut oil, and liquid foundation and popped it into the microwave 03:48
at 30 second intervals. 03:53
Once it was all mixed, I put the grate back into the bottom of the 03:55
EOS container, poured the mixture in, 03:58
capped it and then popped it in the freezer. 04:00
I kept it in there for 30 minutes and pro-tip: 04:02
store it upside-down if you want to achieve 04:05
that dome shape on the top. 04:08
And not to toot my own DIY EOS concealer horn 04:09
but when I opened it about 30 minutes later, it was perfect. 04:13
Perfect! 04:17
It went on a little sheer so next 04:18
time I’ll probably use more concealer and less coconut oil. It does not stay in formation 04:20
unless you keep it chilled, so keep this in the fridge. 04:25
So today I decided I wanted to dive into one 04:31
aspect of my daily makeup routine that is usually so essential for me: eyebrows. 04:34
I think I said it in my “5 Days of No Makeup” video but, if I had to pick one type of makeup 04:40
to wear everyday, just one, it would be brow powder. 04:45
I started out super easy today, and 04:49
I just wanted to see what it would look like if I used nothing but raw organic cocoa powder 04:51
as brow powder. 04:56
I have never thought to do this before, 04:57
and I don’t know why because I’m a huge 04:59
chocolate person. Huge. 05:01
But it was not a bad technique. 05:03
Plus it’s all natural, and who really uses all of the cocoa powder in their 05:05
pantry before it expires anyway? Am I right? 05:09
Then I took it up one level and I made myself a DIY brow gel. 05:11
Sometimes I actually do really like that full brow, bushy, messy look. 05:15
Other times I just want them to sit 05:20
still and calm down. 05:22
I got this idea from the Youtube channel ModaMob and 05:25
I just mixed hair gel with 05:28
brown powder. And it’s so simple! You just 05:30
mix them together until they’re blended, twirl a wand into the gel, and apply it. Because 05:32
it's tinted it also helps fill in the gaps, and this really worked just as well as any 05:36
store bought brow gel. 05:41
I would highly recommend it. 05:43
Quite a nice tint. 05:45
Notice anything different about me? 05:50
Maybe about my eyes? 05:53
I got eye makeup on! 05:55
It’s been three days of wearing only DIY makeup, 05:57
and even though everything I’ve made this 06:00
week has brought me a little bit closer to having on a full-face of makeup, I haven’t worn 06:03
anything yet that’s really dramatically changed my look. Until today. 06:07
So I wanted to make products today that would really add that final pop. 06:12
Eyeliner and mascara. 06:16
I started out with this blue eyeliner using a tutorial I found on Carli Bybel’s Youtube 06:18
channel. You mix eyeshadow in whatever color you want your eyeliner to be with MAC Fix 06:23
Plus. The Fix Plus helps turn the eyeshadow into 06:28
a liquid form, and gets it all smooth so that 06:30
you could apply it with a really skinny brush. I’m usually a black eyeliner girl but I’m 06:33
loving the blue, and I’m thinking this is my new thing. 06:37
Next, making the mascara was the most difficult and involved process of yhe entire week so far. 06:40
This idea came from 06:47
a Youtube Channel called Alternative Channel. 06:48
I started by placing slivered almonds on a 06:50
pan and then heating them up until they became completely burned and black. Once the almonds 06:52
were charred, I put them into a baggie and I crushed them using the back of a water bottle. 06:57
I mixed them with one teaspoon of Vaseline, and then the original recipe wanted me to 07:01
heat this mixture on a stovetop with a double boiler, but I decided to just throw it in 07:06
the microwave. 07:11
Once the mixture had a better consistency from the heat, I spooned it into 07:11
a syringe and then I pumped it into an old, cleaned-out mascara container. 07:15
TBH, this mixture stunk. 07:19
You would have thought that something died. 07:22
So I don’t know how I felt about this 07:24
product because of how it smelled, but it did work nicely! 07:25
I mean, it looks like regular mascara. 07:29
And it’s pretty cool. It was made out of burnt almonds. 07:31
I literally have a smokey eye. 07:33
For my final day I felt 07:38
that I had made enough DIY makeup products for an everyday, natural look. So I decided 07:40
instead of making another makeup product, I’d make my own DIY makeup remover. 07:45
I found this recipe on Refinery29. 07:49
Have you heard of it? 07:52
Place 12 cotton squares into a sterile 07:53
mason jar, and then set it aside. 07:55
Mix ⅛ cup of melted coconut oil, with 07:57
⅛ cup of apricot kernel oil, three drops of 08:00
lavender, and two drops of vitamin E oil. 08:03
I poured the mixture over the cotton pads, and 08:06
then poked around a little to make sure they absorbed as much liquid as possible. 08:08
Refrigerated the pads for at least one hour 08:12
and then tested it out. 08:14
The mixture smelled really good and 08:16
it worked really well, but it was definitely a little bit oily 08:18
so it requires you to wash your face with soap and water 08:21
after using it. 08:23
Whaaat?! 08:24
And after I trial tested the makeup 08:26
remover pads, I actually put 08:28
all of my DIY makeup back on because it’s 08:30
Friday nigh and I’m going out in DIY makeup! Can’t stop me! 08:33
I officially made it through the entire week wearing only DIY makeup products. 08:36
I feel like I gave my skin 08:41
a much needed rest from the typical makeup products 08:43
that I use everyday which are a lot 08:45
heavier, and are not necessarily all-natural. 08:47
Let me know if you have anymore DIY makeup 08:50
ideas that I can test out. 08:52
And as always, comment below and let me know what you want 08:53
to see next time on Try Living With Lucie. 08:56

Key Grammar Structures

  • If you haven’t subscribed to our channel yet click right here.

    ➔ Conditional Clause (Type 0/1) + Imperative

➔ The sentence uses a conditional clause to suggest an action (subscribing) and then gives a direct command (“click right here”). The 'if' clause sets a condition, and the imperative tells the viewer what to do. The use of 'yet' implies expectation.

  • I don’t really know that much about regular makeup, let alone DIY makeup.

➔ Negative Statement + 'let alone' for emphasis

➔ This sentence expresses a lack of knowledge about regular makeup and then uses 'let alone' to emphasize that the speaker knows even less about DIY makeup. 'Let alone' indicates something is even more unlikely or difficult than the previous statement.

  • I mixed a matte liquid foundation with a matte eyeshadow and then stirred them together.

➔ Past Simple - Sequence of Actions

➔ The sentence describes a process with multiple steps. The past simple tense is used to narrate a sequence of completed actions: mixing, then stirring. The 'and then' connects the actions chronologically.

  • I kept it in there for 30 minutes and pro-tip: store it upside-down if you want to achieve that dome shape on the top.

➔ Past Continuous + Colon + Imperative with Condition

➔ The sentence begins with an action in progress ('kept it in there'). The colon introduces a helpful tip ('pro-tip') which is then given as an imperative sentence with a conditional clause ('if you want...').
