Are you from the mortal world or from the palace of the Moon?

I want to ask if you are crazy or sane, always calling out to sell a piece of moon.

How many nights have you sat counting shooting stars,

listening to the midnight dew dripping into your soul?

I want to ask if you want to buy a piece of moon,

but I only fear that the mortal world is dark and dim.

My dear, you ask if I am crazy or sane.

What about you? Are you sane or crazy to buy the golden moonlight?

The moon is only mine; I only sell it to you.

The song weeps in the midst of sorrowful night.

In the midst of a stormy night sky,

there are those whose dreams have shattered.

Hearing the beloved call the name Hàn Mặc Tử.

He hurriedly turned away, merging into the darkness,

as the midnight dew wept and poured endlessly.

Pressing my face into my hands, feeling bittersweet.

You ask gently why he doesn't speak.

He replies it's all over, there's nothing left, Mộng Cầm.

Did I forget you, or did you forget me?

Why regret a piece of a lonely life?

Let’s just go home before the midnight dew gets cold,

cold is the moon and cold is the frail shoulder.

Oh, a moonlit life filled with poetry and dreams,

with a thousand words of love and a million promises.

Yet who could have foreseen such love?

Who could have guessed one night the moon would break,

holding your hand, he gently asks his beloved.

Trăng nằm yên trên cành liễu đợi chờ.

Tôi đã ra đi đi về đất Chúa.

Người định bán bao nhiêu một tấc trăng vàng?

Người ở trần gian hay tận chốn cung Hằng?

Ta muốn hỏi người điên hay tỉnh, cất tiếng rao hoài bán một vầng trăng.

Đã mấy đêm rồi người ngồi đếm sao băng,

nghe sương khuya nhỏ giọt vào hồn.

Ta muốn hỏi người để mua đứt một vầng trăng,

nhưng chỉ sợ rằng trần gian ngu tối.

Nàng ơi nàng hỏi rằng ta điên hay tỉnh.

Còn nàng tỉnh hay điên mà mua ánh trăng vàng.

Trăng của riêng ta, ta chỉ bán cho nàng.

Dù khuyết dù tròn, dù đục hay trong.

Nếu mấy đêm rồi người ngồi đếm sao băng,

thì ta cũng thao thức qua những đêm sầu duyên kiếp.

ta thì đợi chờ đã mấy mùa trăng.

Rồi một đêm kia khi vầng trăng vừa tắt lịm,

thì trần gian này cũng vắng bóng một nhà thơ.

Người bán vầng trăng đã vĩnh viễn ra đi,

mang theo thơ nhạc và nửa đời sương gió.

Một kiếp thi nhân đã về chầu đất Chúa,

giữa một đêm sầu hoang vắng cô liêu.

Trăng vàng từ biệt bạn bạn bao nhiêu hương trăng còn động mịch nhiều tình yêu xưa.

Một người bán, một người mua,

mảnh trăng là một bài thơ chứ đoá đài.

Hàn Mặc Tử ơi, anh ở đâu?

Lời ca nức nở giữa đêm sầu.

Giữa đêm trời đất đầy giông bão,

có kẻ tan rồi, mộng bể dâu.

Nghe tiếng người yêu gọi tên Hàn Mặc Tử.

Chàng vội quay đi lẫn vào trong bóng tối,

khi sương khuya nức nở đổ liền hồi.

Úp mặt vào tay nghe chua xót ngậm ngùi.

Nàng buông tiếng hỏi vì sao chàng không nói.

Chàng bảo hết rồi còn chi nữa Mộng Cầm ơi.

Ta quên nàng sao nàng chẳng quên ta.

Tiếc chi nữa một mảnh đời cô quạnh.

Thôi hãy về đi kẻo sương khuya xuống lạnh,

lạnh vầng trăng và lạnh tấm vai gầy.

Ôi một cuộc trăng có đầy thơ với mộng,

có ngàn lời thương và vạn tiếng giao thề.

Nhưng chuyện tình duyên nào có ai ngờ.

Ai có ngờ đâu một đêm trăng vỡ,

cầm tay nàng chàng khẽ hỏi người yêu.

Mộng Cầm ơi! Kìa vầng trăng vỡ,

anh sợ tình ta rồi sẽ vỡ tan.

Nếu tan vỡ theo mùa trăng tàn úa,

thôi thế là thôi lỡ cố nhân rồi.

Duyên đôi ta tan vỡ lâu rồi em ơi.

Vầng trăng vàng chơi vơi.

Trăng ơi trăng khuất bóng sau đồi,

trong tiếng lá u hoài.

Trời thu còn ở lại một áng mây.
