We will now talk about your album, - which is called Multitude.

And you have included influences from the five continents,

you have used instruments, rhythms - South American, Asian, African.

Is it a tribute to the globetrotting culture, - passed down by your mother?

We know she made you travel a lot.

She took us backpacking a lot,

we traveled to Mali, to Mexico...

We really traveled everywhere,

and she always had this desire to see elsewhere.

And I, in the same way for this album,

I wanted to seek out grooves.

One thing I really love to do - is to seek out different grooves.

We will take a Chinese violin called the Erhu.

A harpsichord

Yes, a harpsichord, mixed with Brazilian baile funk.

And that's what I love to do, in fact, it's mixing things.

The idea was really to take inspirations from everywhere

but without being able to point to one country.

Because I didn't want to have a Bolivian piece,

a Congolese piece,

a Rwandan piece.

I really wanted to mix a lot of things.

Hence the title Multitude, are you multiple?

Exactly. - I think we all are.

We are all multiple.

We have many different characters,

we have many different personalities,

we are not summarized to a mold,

to a box.

So precisely if your songs have such success,

it's probably because they resonate with all of us.

You put our flaws into music, - our contradictions

and I must say it's always quite uncompromising,

you are not gentle. - Neither with yourself nor with us.

It's true, that's how I see my music.

My music is often defined with joyful tunes - and slightly darker themes,

a bit sadder.

That's a bit how I see life,

it's not completely white, not completely black,

there are difficult moments, more joyful moments.

And it's always alternating.

There are no highs without lows, there are no lows without highs.

That's life.

You also fought against a certain malaise for 7 years.

You talk about it quite openly.

In your songs, you also talk a lot about loneliness.

Has music helped you to free yourself from it?

I'm not the only one who is alone

On va maintenant parler de votre album, qui s'appelle Multitude.

Et vous y avez mis des influences des cinq continents,

vous avez utilisé des instruments, des rythmes sud américain, asiatique, africain.

Est ce que c'est un hommage à la culture globetrotteur, transmise par votre maman?

On sait qu'elle vous a beaucoup fait voyager.

Elle nous a fait beaucoup voyager en sac à dos,

on a voyagé au Mali, au Mexique...

On a voyagé vraiment partout,

et elle a toujours eu cette envie d'aller voir ailleurs.

Et moi de la même manière pour cet album,

j'avais envie d'aller chercher des grooves.

Un truc que j'aime beaucoup faire c'est vraiment d'aller chercher des grooves différents.

On va prendre un violon chinois qu'on appelle l'Erhu.

Un Clavecin

Oui, un clavecin, mélangé avec du baile funk brésilien.

Et moi c'est ça que j'adore faire en fait, c'est mélanger des choses.

L'idée c'était vraiment de prendre des inspirations de partout

mais sans pouvoir pointer un pays du doigt.

Parce que j'avais pas envie d'avoir un morceau bolivien,

un morceau congolais,

un morceau rwandais.

J'avais vraiment envie de mélanger tout plein de choses.

D'où le titre Multitude, vous êtes multiple?

Voilà, exactement. Je pense qu'on l'est tous.

On est tous multiples.

On est plein de personnages différents,

on a plein de personnalités différentes,

on est pas résumé à un carcan,

à une case.

Alors justement si vos chansons ont un tel succès,

c'est sans doute parce qu'elles nous interpellent tous.

Vous mettez en musique nos travers, nos contradictions

et je dois dire que c'est toujours assez sans concession,

vous n'êtes pas tendre. Ni avec vous ni avec nous.

C'est vrai, c'est comme ça que je vois ma musique.

On définit souvent ma musique avec des musiques joyeuse et des thématiques un peu plus sombres,

un peu plus triste.

est un peu comme ça que je vois la vie,

elle n'est pas complètement blanche, pas complètement noire,

y'a des moments difficiles, des moments plus joyeux.

Et c'est toujours alterné.

Y'a pas de haut sans bas, y'a pas de bas sans haut.

C'est la vie.

Vous avez aussi pendant 7 ans lutté contre un certain mal-être.

Vous en parlez d'ailleurs sans détour.

Dans vos chansons vous parlez aussi beaucoup de solitude.

Est-ce que la musique vous a aidé à vous en libérer?

J’suis pas tout seul à être tout seul
