Et tu sais, lui montrer les tenants et aboutissants, simplement les expériences que j’ai eues.

c’est pourquoi Pop Smoke a accompli l’impossible, pour ainsi dire.

Et il a fait le pont, tu sais, entre le drill britannique

et le type de scène de production,

et il est un rappeur américain qui rappe sur des beats britanniques

de style, ce qui

comme pour ceux qui

ont été dans le même coin depuis une dizaine d’années en attendant qu’il y ait une connexion

entre ce qui se passait.

et il a dit : « Pop Smoke. » Et j’ai répondu : « Oh, vous êtes dans le même bain ? » Et il a répondu : « Oui, monsieur. »

Ensuite, je me souviens de mon hip‑hop, et j’ai dit : « Yo, je viens de parler à Quavo. »

Euh, il voulait entrer en studio.

Tu sais, faisons‑le ASAP. Allons à LA la semaine prochaine. Et il a dit : « Je suis partant. »

J’ai appelé 808 Melo. Euh,

J’ai dit : « Yo, viens à LA parce qu’il vit à Londres. »

Il a répondu : « Je suis partant. »

Le beat de « Shake the Room » a été créé dans ma chambre.

Et ce beat était inachevé, il n’y avait aucun effet, aucune réverbération, rien du tout.

Juste des sons bruts.

Alors mon pote Steven et moi avons pris l’avion pour LA afin de travailler avec Neither et Pop.

Nous sommes entrés en studio.

La journée était en feu, on faisait des morceaux. Nous allions quitter le studio.

Euh, Pop voulait que je lui laisse un beat.

Après, j’ai reçu un message disant que Quavo voulait se joindre au beat. Je trouve ça fou.

Et je me souviens que Quavo m’a appelé et a dit : « Yo, Pop a laissé ce morceau fou. » Il a un refrain dingue.

« Je vais y ajouter un couplet. Je vais te l’envoyer. »

Euh, il me l’a envoyé. Je l’ai fait écouter à Pop. Je me souviens que c’était fou.

Pop a dit : « Oh, c’est du feu. Je dois le poser ce soir. »

Nous sommes allés en studio, il l’a enregistré.

Euh, ça s’est étalé sur quelques mois.

Et euh, on a fait six ou sept morceaux, et « Shake the Room » était l’un de ceux qu’il voulait sortir.

En même temps, à la même période, je parlais à Virgil.

Il a dit : « Yo, viens à Paris. C’est la Fashion Week. » Tu vois ce que je veux dire ?

Je veux que Pop vienne aux défilés, Off‑White, Louis Vuitton. Nous y sommes allés.

J’ai un super groupe de réalisateurs et cinéastes avec qui je travaille depuis longtemps.

Ils s’appellent Notex Agenda.

Plutôt que ce soit uniquement dirigé par moi, c’est dirigé par mon studio.

Tu sais, ce n’est pas à propos d’une seule personne.

Et il s’agit vraiment de capturer l’énergie.

Virgil avait le concept en tête.

Tu sais, on est arrivés dans ce restaurant, il a expliqué,

euh, et on a tourné le clip, tu sais, c’était, c’était, c’était vraiment

un moment spécial, être entouré de tous ceux qui étaient fans de Pop, qui

respectaient son art et son métier et euh, juste être entourés d’amour.

Comme, nous étions tous là pour que Pop rende ce clip fou.

On l’a filmé en mode « run‑and‑gun », mais de très, très haute qualité. Tu sais, et puis le clip est sorti

super, super génial.

C’était la Fashion Week et il était euh, tu sais, c’était sa première fois à la Fashion Week.

Donc chaque fois qu’il essayait des vêtements, il prenait une photo dans le miroir

et me l’envoyait sur mon téléphone en demandant : « Ça va comme ça ? »

Et je lui répondais : « Oui, c’est cool. » Il disait : « Sérieusement, Woo ? Sérieusement ? »

Et je répondais juste : « Oui, c’est cool. » Take et moi riions à ce sujet parce que,

tu vois ce que je veux dire, c’est sa première fois. Il trouvait ça bizarre ou il était mal à l’aise.

Mais, tu sais, la mode est inconfortable, alors,

J’ai dû le remettre sur le terrain et le mettre à l’aise.

Il va me manquer. Il va me manquer énormément. Je suis sûr que nous allons tous le regretter.

Euh, mais il nous a laissé, tu sais, beaucoup de super œuvres dont nous pourrons

nous souvenir, écouter sa musique et perpétuer son héritage.

J’aurais aimé que Pop puisse être ici pour voir la réaction des fans. Euh,

Parce que, tu sais, je me souviens quand on lui a montré le montage final, il a dit,

tu sais, c’était différent, mais il, tu vois ce que je veux dire, il aimait, il aimait, il aimait ça.

Travailler avec Pop Smoke a été l’une des meilleures choses qui me soient arrivées.

Euh, il était le meilleur être humain, tu vois ce que je veux dire ?

Et simplement venant du Royaume-Uni, en grandissant avec un artiste américain,

développer une amitié, pas un business,

c’était vraiment fou. Et je suis juste heureux de faire partie de ce parcours, tu vois ce que je veux dire ?

And you know, show him the ins and outs and just the experiences I had.

why Pop Smoke is that he did the impossible, so to speak.

And he bridged, you know, the UK drill

production sort of scene,

and he's an American rapper rapping over UK

style of beats, which

like for those that

have been sort of like in the sort of pocket for 10 years waiting if there was ever going to be a connection

between what was happening.

You know, this album is super important

for for for making the rap world sort of truly

like global.

with the "Shake the Room" video. Um,

and the song, how that came about, that was,

you know, everything about that was organic. Like,

I remember Quavo hit me

and he was like, "Pop Smoke." And I was like, "Oh, you in tune?" And he was like, "Yes, sir."

Then I remember my hip-hop, and I was like, "Yo, I just spoke to Quavo."

Um, he wanna get in the studio.

You know, let's, let's do it ASAP. Let's go to LA next week." And he was like, "I'm with it."

I called 808 Melo. Um,

I was like, "Yo, come to LA 'cause he live in London."

He was like, "I'm down."

the beat "Shake the Room" was actually made in my room.

And this beat was unfinished, so it didn't have no effects, no reverb, no nothing.

Just straight raw sounds.

So me and my boy, Steven flew to LA to work with neither and Pop.

Went in the studio.

The day was fire, making tracks. We're about to leave the studio.

Um, Pop wanted me to leave a beat for him.

From there, I get a message saying Quavo wants to jump on the beat. I think that's like madness.

And then I remember Quavo hit me and he was like, "Yo, Pop left this crazy joint." He has a crazy hook.

"I'm about to put a verse to it. I'm gonna send it to you."

Um, he sent it to me. I played it for Pop. I remember the shit was crazy.

Pop was like, "Oh, this is fire. I gotta lay this down tonight."

He we went to the studio, he laid it down.

um, turned into like a couple months.

And um, and we made like six or seven records, and then "Shake the Room" was one of the ones that he wanted to put out.

At that same time, around the same time, I was speaking to Virgil.

He was like, "Yo, come to Paris. It's Fashion Week." You know what I'm saying?

I want Pop to come to the to the shows, Off-White, Louis Vuitton. We got out there.

I have a great group of directors and filmmakers I've been working with for a long time.

Their name is Notex Agenda.

Rather than it being directed solely by me, it's directed by my studio.

You know, it's not it's getting away from this one person.

And it's really just about capturing the energy.

Virgil had the treatment in his head.

You know, we pulled up to this restaurant, he laid it out,

um, and we shot the video, you know, it was, it was, it was a really

special time like to be around everyone that was like a fan of Pop, that

respected his art and his craft and um, just to be around, around love.

Like, we all were there for Pop to make this video crazy.

We shot it running gun style, but very, very high quality. You know, and then the video came out

super, super dope.

It was Fashion Week and he was uh, you know, it was his first time just being a part of Fashion Week.

So every time he would like try on clothes, he would take a picture in the mirror

and send it to my phone and ask, "Is this all right?"

And I would tell him, "Yeah, it's cool." He was like, "For real, Woo? For real?"

And I was just like, "Yeah, it's cool." Me and Take was laughing about it 'cause,

you know what I'm saying, this is his first time. He thought he was feeling weird or he was uncomfortable.

But, you know, fashion is uncomfortable, so,

I had to just put him down and just put him up on game.

I'mma miss him. I'mma miss him a lot. I'm sure we all will.

Um, but he left us with, you know, a lot of great works that we'll be able to

remember him by and listen to his music and carry on his legacy.

I wish Pop could've could've could've been here to see a reaction for the fans. Um,

'Cause, you know, I remember when we showed him the final cut, he was like,

you know, it was different, but he, you know what I'm saying, he was, he was, he was loving it.

Working with Pop Smoke was like one of the best things that happened to me.

Uh, he was the best human start, you know what I'm saying?

And just being from the UK, growing up with an American artist,

coming to someone in a friendship, not a business,

was really, like, crazy. And I'm just happy to be a part of that journey, you know what I'm saying?

And I'm definitely push his legacy to the max, you know what I'm saying?

Pop, we miss you. Love you.

And, you know, the video's fire.
